Since this video is specifically on XPS 9520, I'm going to assume that you're referring to that model. The charging ports for the laptop are the three USB type-C ports that are on the motherboard. Replacing components on the motherboard is costly considering that you need the proper equipment in order to perform the work. A cost effective solution could be to buy a motherboard replacement and swap out the defective unit. Another option could be to send the laptop in for repair. Let me know what route you end up taking. Best of luck!

you saved my day with that battery wire missed from dell (other youtube posts also miss this). I had never done this before, i was stuck on how to remove the wire from the old battery, i was afraid to break the pins or the connector, but then i saw you easily pop it up, that encourage me to "force" pop it . This applies to XPS 9500 as well (mine).

Where's the CMOS batter on the motherboard 🤔
@acostae.t.f40066 ай бұрын
For the Dell XPS 15 9520, the battery for the laptop is the CMOS battery. If you remove the battery and hold the PWR button to remove the flea power, you will notice that your BIOS settings will be reset. Thanks for the question and for watching our content. Don't forget to subscribe!

How long did the computer last for you after the replacement? Was there any change to the power draw?
@acostae.t.f400610 ай бұрын
I'm currently seeing ~ 4-5 hours of battery life. There was a small increase in power draw given that I added an additional component (second NVME drive). Thanks for watching our content and subscribing to the channel!

What if we're not hoping to replace the battery, just to unplug and replug it back in to reset the NVRAM? Would anything change? Do I still have to go through with pulling off the little bits of tape? Do I have to take the battery out completely at all?
@acostae.t.f40062 ай бұрын
If you're not looking to replace the battery, unplugging the battery and draining the flea power will reset any BIOS password and system time. If that is what you're looking to do, you do not need to take apart the tape or pull the battery out. While you're in there, make sure to clean out the dust. :) Thanks for watching and subscribing to the channel.

Hey! Question for ya… do you know where the poly fuse cable / ocp fuse 2 is? My 9520 is telling me there’s a fault and I want to replace it if possible.. Thanks for posting!

Hello! What is the diagnostic light code that you're seeing?
@JoePelusoMedia6 ай бұрын
@@acostae.t.f4006 hey - when its plugged in it’s one amber light then 4 white lights. Got two different reports in the log when doing the advanced system test.. “Fail ED.3.3.41 Error:2000:0716 Validate code:126013 Cables - Check the following cable, Alert! OCP fuse 2 fault detected.” And “Fail ED.3.3.41 Error:2000:0415 Validate code:70662 Cables - Check the following cable, jumper, connection, polyfuse or sensor:OCP fuse 2;” Thank you for any help or tips! Really don’t want to send it in (swear this just started happening after I paid it off..) so if it’s a part I can buy and replace that would be perfect 🤞

@@acostae.t.f4006 Hey! Sorry thought I had already replied. Its 1 amber light and 4 white lights. Ran an advanced test and it again referred tot he ocp fuse 2... so I'm wondering if ya have any maintenance / service manuals or details that shows where that cord is? The service manual available online wasn't helpful.. Thanks!
@acostae.t.f40066 ай бұрын
@@JoePelusoMedia Hi! Just looked in the service manual and you're correct. There isn't much information on this problem. Sadly, Dell doesn't considers this as an end-user serviceable problem. Based on the information I'm seeing, I would start looking at the display assembly. Based on the parts locator, dell doesn't even sell the display assembly. You may have to go 3rd party at that point. I would honestly weigh the pros and cons of taking on this repair vs sending it to dell for repair vs replacing the laptop. Your time may not be worth the headache. I wish you the best, keep me posted!

Hi, I tried to install the bigger 86 Wh 69kf2 but it is not recognized by my XPS 9520 ....
@acostae.t.f40069 ай бұрын
Here are some recommendations: 1. Use OEM when replacing your battery. 2. Double check your battery connector is seated properly with the battery cable that connects to the motherboard. 3. Double check your connection between the battery and the mother board. 4. Double check if your charger is still properly working. I hope these tips help! Thanks for watching the content and supporting the channel.

@@acostae.t.f4006 thanks you. Is the 86 Wh working for both 2022 and 2023 version of the XPS 15 9520 ?

Double check your model number and based on that, you can look up what parts are compatible with your laptop. FYI for Dell PC, they have a service tag number that can also be used. If you need additional help, feel free to send me an email. My information is always listed in the description of every video.

Hi! How did you remove the system cable? I was trying to replace my battery the other night, but the cable is extremely well secured (almost seems soldered stuck??) and so I can't get it off. Feels like pulling it might ruin it completely. Did you have to apply a lot of force or did you do anything else to get it off?
@acostae.t.f40068 ай бұрын
In our case when we removed the system cable from the first battery in order to install it in the second (new) battery, the cable was held down by adhesive in 2 locations. A slight upward pull was able to detach the cable from the 2 location that had the adhesive. The final part was to lift upwards where the pins mated to the battery. No tools were needed in our case, just a bit of elbow grease. Good luck and thank you for watching our content and subscribing to the channel.

Did you ever find out the hold charge from your previous battery. Just to get an idea how much it degraded.

Yes, I was able to run a battery report in Windows 11 that gives you the answer to your question and more! Give it a try.... 1. Select Search on the taskbar, type Command prompt, press and hold (or right-click) Command prompt, and then select Run as administrator > Yes. 2. At the command prompt, type powercfg /batteryreport, then press Enter. 3. Open File Explorer, go to the folder that the report was saved to, and then double-click the battery report (HTML file) to open it in your web browser. To reduce ESD risk, wearing a wrist strap and using an antistatic mat would prove useful. Same for rubber glovers. ;-)

I believe there is much work to be done from manufactures in the R&D department to allow for better battery management. As a business, this brings up quite a number of questions.....Is the investment in R&D worth it considering batteries are considered consumable products for laptops? Is this another avenue for generating revenue for the company due to labor costs, obsolescence, etc. Glad to see you learned something from this video. Do you think it would be better to 1. replace the battery like you did, 2. upgrade the battery with a compatible dell battery, 3. just buy a portable power bank to carry in my backpack?
@acostae.t.f400610 ай бұрын
I recommend going with 1 & 3 and skipping 2. From past experiences, aftermarket manufacture batteries don't have the same capacity that they claim or the performance is not the same (Battery life is less). Currently for the XPS 9520, an OEM battery is $159.99 for 86 Wh. Even if the battery only last a year like my last one, I view it as it cost me 43 cents a day to operate my laptop. If you travel as much as I do, a power bank can help for those moments that you don't have an outlet around. As an example, I can use my laptop on a most domestic flights as I see around 4-5 hours of battery life. For those flights that are longer than 4-5 hours or times where I forget to charge my laptop battery, a battery bank will help bridge the gap until you're able to find an outlet. This is the battery bank that I use and it has gotten me through several occasions where my battery has been running low: amzn.to/3OidLca. Thanks for the question.
