What makes this case particularly puzzling is that the girls’ plan was made spontaneously-it wasn’t part of their routine. This means Richard Allen would have acted on an unexpected opportunity. Yet, despite this impulsive nature, he left no evidence, such as DNA, behind. Typically, an unplanned crime leaves traces, which makes the lack of physical evidence here even more concerning.
@KayLou2092 ай бұрын
@ He was thinking about doing it because he bundled up on a warm day! He also armed himself with a gun and box cutter. I think he knew kids would be out there. He went out there often. I think more evidence of that will come out. Plus he got rid of his cell phone? Something incriminating was on it in my opinion. He also probably wore gloves. Lack of DNA is because he was careful but he admits he probably dropped the cartridge. He also admits he got spooked by a van. Eye whiteness’s put bridge guy/ muddy and bloody at or around the scene. He admits he was there. His car was there, he confessed. He states why he did it. It is a totality of evidence and sometimes a lack of evidence. This man also drank first.

If “innocent until proven guilty” then Allen should have been able to have visits from his family without this being an issue. His admission of guilt is not necessarily sufficient to convict, as confessions are notoriously unreliable. Under certain circumstances false memories can be imprinted, and mental health issues can make recollections unreliable. Allen may well be guilty, and so needs to be incarcerated as a possible risk to public safety, but until he is convicted he should treated as a suspect, not a murderer.

I want to see somebody pay for this horrible crime as much as the next person, but I’m having more and more trouble believing this is the right guy. I’m 65 years old and have seen many murder trials in my day; yet I don’t think I’ve ever seen one with so little evidence. It’s like we’re determined to fit a square peg into a round hole. If this is the guy, I want him convicted, but is this the guy???? There’s no DNA, no fingerprints, no eye witnesses to the crime, nothing belonging to the girls found in his possession, no souvenirs, no murder weapon, no old blood on his ‘supposedly matching clothes’, none of his blood or bodily fluids on them, no criminal history, history of violence, or history of child pornography or child abuse (even with his own daughter), no reported strange behavior from his past or his family, no known motive, no nothing. Nothing! Nothing! Nothing but his jailhouse confessions which often mean absolutely nothing in cases like this and definitely can’t be used to incriminate him; especially since he denies them now. It seems all there is is some peculiar behavior becoming apparent and concerning after a few years of incarceration, solitary confinement and the continual verbal abuse, accusations and rejection by prisoners, authorities and everyone he’s ever known and loved. This man has lost absolutely everything, including his self worth, self respect and reason for living. This would drive an innocent man - especially one weak in personal strength - to the depths of mental illness and despair. Again, I’m not saying he is innocent. I have no idea. None of us do. But at this point, if I was a member of the jury, I’d probably have to find him innocent unless something changes, something significant (very significant) is revealed very soon. Yes, he was on the bridge, or thereabouts that day, and at that time; and, yes, he admits to owning and possibly wearing very similar clothes to the ‘bridge guy’ caught on camera, but you cannot convict him on that. And, as I understand, that bullet could be anyone’s with the same kind of gun. Is that right? There’s more reasonable doubt here than I think I’ve ever seen. I find this very, very concerning.
@kpb31182 ай бұрын
I think he’s guilty - it’s unfortunate that the police botched the case and let someone who should have been a person of interest go for 5 years in which time he has all the time in the world to get rid of any evidence. Where is his phone from 2017? A car matching his description is on camera, he was dressed like bridge man, he admitted being on the bridge, he says he sees a van that scares him, and that’s why he took the girls across the creek - that could not have been in discovery. Sorry - it’s too many coincidences to think he’s not guilty.
@CuriousES2 ай бұрын
@kpb3118 this testimony from the van guy came early on the investigation, Weber owns a gun that could not be ruled out as a match to the cartridge found on the scene. They originally considered him a suspect and somehow they ruled him out, he put himself at the scene (not the bridge) but near the crime scene, his gun couldn’t be ruled out.
@sanddollar2522 ай бұрын

1:10:10 that is the exact definition of cross examination, you can lead the witness when it is cross examination. Im surprised you haven’t noticed in all the trials you have watched. The typical objection is “objection leading”, that is said from the other side when the side that calls the witness in direct is leading. This is the prosecution and the judge obstructing a fair trial breaking the cross pace and forcing the defense to have to jump through ridiculous objections.

I’m so shocked to see people thinking today went well for the prosecution. I don’t know if it’s a blind trust some people have in law enforcement and the government, like they don’t want to think a prosecution would bring a case knowing it’s BS. Or if things went over peoples heads. But I’m truly baffled by this reaction. this was incredibly terrible day for the prosecutions case, which was already weak. But, a lot of people also think guilty UNLESS and until proven innocent by the defendant, which goes against everything our justice system stands for. Stuff like this always makes me sad to see that people still think this way

You have to admit that most times the simplest explanation is correct. He was there on the day, a car matching his car’s description was on camera, he has all his phones going back years except the one he had that day, his physique and how he was dressed matches that of bridge man, gun/bullet match (although I’m not sure the science is well accepted), and last but not least, he confesses multiple times. Some say he used what was in discovery and repeated it, but how could the white van be in discovery? The prosecution could not have had that info until after RA said he saw a van that scared him. So that’s why I feel he’s guilty - how many white men matching the same physical description driving a dark Ford were at an obscure park on a weekday mid afternoon? Too many coincidences.

Even Lori and Chad daybell got regular visits and phone call in jail. Putting him in a prison cell before convicted is not reasonable. Indiana state needs to do better. I knew the news had reported that his lawyers were saying this was inhumane. I mean being in solitary confinement for all those months. Who wouldn’t have issues especially if one already had severe mental illness.

He had human contact. He was in a cell by himself with an iPad and other prisoners nearby and a daily visit from the warden or counselor. He wasn’t in a dungeon completely isolated from other people. Do you think he should have been in general population? He would have been at risk from prisoners who are generally very very hard on anyone perceived to be a child killer. Plus his constant talk of suicide.

I hope she can set the record straight for the jurors upon reviewing all of the evidence... that Judge Gull so graciously allows to be admitted. I can wait to hear Dr. John on this.

Lauren, I’ve followed this case from the beginning. Walla accessed Keegan Kline’s info in the database used for prisoners even though she had no reason to do so (not part of his treatment team). From what I understand, she was investigated for that, and the research on the case, and ultimately fired.

I mean you think he us sane to fake a confession sousbt he sane enough to stop eating his poop? If he was truly saying they would've had him out of there and if he was truly saying his psychologist would've put up more of a fight. He sat with him the whole time he wasn't shackled. he was just tormented by the demonic spirits in him either way he has always been. It was coming to a head in his life. The best thing he could've ever done was just to confess and leave it at that and stop eating his poop. he wasn't allowed out of there because his behaviours were not good for general population.

Presomption of innocence is the only acceptable bias to have when following and reporting on trials. Lauren has an obvious pro prosecution bias so i think it is worth watching from both angles. @matthewnewton88122 ай бұрын
That is literally not true. Her authority absolutely extends to what media and recording devices will be allowed in her courtroom, as long as it’s sufficiently public in nature. I don’t understand why people say things like this- you don’t like the way she’s doing things so you call it “exceeding her authority”. You just make that up and say it like it’s fact. If she were literally “exceeding her authority” the defense attorneys would have been all over that, screaming to the media that she was breaking the law, and they would have successfully appealed her decision. Isn’t that obvious?

@marylou43242 ай бұрын
Imo, the biggest problem is the public's lack of patience. Also a general lack of understanding and respect for our justice system. A general societal influence to blame victims. I have faith in the jury. We just have to wait and see. And after the trial, they'll release what they can.

@@marylou4324 Yes ! All the reasons you've stated are why selecting a jury is the most difficult and important task for prosecutors and defense lawyers in any trial. Imo there are enough parts of his confession he wouldn't know if he wasn't there. The missing phone sways me too. If you've seen Gray Hughes' site, he has great visuals of the "moving parts" for that day. He began presenting his videos soon after this all happened. Wish this jury could view them or the DA has one similar. Maybe they have...we will see. I'm open to hearing the defense lawyers' case but it will need to be much more than RA was driven mad and made to confess by corrupt LE ppl.

@@marylou4324 unfortunately, the handling of this case is actively eroding respect in the justice system. Whether Allen is innocent or guilty, it's been appalling (and everyone's right to a fair trial aside, who wants a guilty man to have a chance, however slim, at having a conviction thrown out for reasons that have nothing to do with the strength of case against him?). I'm not sure if those without a good understanding of the justice system appreciate just how irregular proceedings around this case have been. The more daylight on this one the better. Seems there's some folks in Indiana who need a little more respect for the justice system they're supposed to serve as agents of.

It seems SO intentional to not allow the public to hear/see stuff. It’s SO different than Judge Boyce! It’s casting doubt all over the case and guilty or not, the prosecution isn’t proving beyond doubt that he’s guilty. Even if it wasn’t a shady investigation, it SEEMS that way and perception is reality for the jury. Above all, we want justice and a fair trial. If I was a juror I wouldn’t be convinced at this point.

I’m not sure what date he said that but he was given involuntary injections of Haldol - which I understand can be necessary in some cases but coming out of that fog or remembering pieces of it… I’d be asking for the same drug testing. Could not have been a pleasant injection - especially knowing you had not yet been criminally convicted in a court of law by a jury of your peers… just simply accused & charged with the murder of 2 young girls. Good grief.
