Designing movesets for Smash Bros. is a complicated and surprisingly deep process. Adapting a character's canon abilities while keeping them balanced, fun to play, and unique among the roster (echo fighters aside) takes a trained hand, and it's something Sakurai and the other developers have handled very well...with occasional exceptions. And when a character's moveset doesn't feel quite right, Smash fans start asking for the next game to...remake it.
This episode, we're focusing on one of the standout examples of a moveset that doesn't feel quite right. Ganondorf may have snuck into Melee by virtue of pulling off a copy of Captain Falcon's moveset, but the more time has passed, the worse it's aged. If the next title were to give the Demon King the overhaul many have been waiting for, how could it be done in a way that enhances his moveset, plays more closely to his source material, and makes him more competitively viable while keeping enough traits of his current moveset to avoid abandoning the fans he already has? Let's see how that might play out.
