I love the contrast between this and the remake- you can clearly tell that this came out in the wake of movies like SAW, Wolf Creek, and Hostel whereas the first one has a true grit and creativity after a decade of moody and teen horror like Ringu and I Know What You Did Last Summer.

As much as I love the Jessica Biel TCM, this one with Jordana Brewster and a young Matt Bomer always had a special place in my heart😂😂 for some reason, this one was always more traumatic for me between the hook and the ending scene, though Kemper's face mask in the other one was scary as hell

Its crazy too cause in the remake, the deaths are barely bloody and sometimes even not fully shown. This prequel came out at a time where Saw had taken off and Hostel debuted, which began the "torture" era of horror films. Enter this prequel with all the blood and guts you didnt fully get from the remake lol. Im glad you watched it though! Its an intense one.

For me the thing that keeps this one from being UNBEARABLY bleak is the characters, I just care so much about them and I think it's because we see how much THEY care about each other too. Eric doing whatever he can to protect his brother, Chrissy continually risking it all to save her friends, her and Eric's touching goodbye. It's those little glimpses of tenderness that uplift this one for me but I completely understand when people say it's too much for them. If you're looking for more TCMs, part 2 is a lot of fun. It's basically a horror comedy and it's SO off the walls ridiculous in a good way.

Saw this in theater and everyone went nuts when Jordana Brewster died at the end! This one has a special place in my heart because the biker guy who is the first chainsaw victim was Lee Tergesen, and I bow to actors on OZ. ❤ The quality of this franchise might be one of the most inconsistent in terms of quality. Watched 2 very recently and realized I had only thought I'd seen it before, it was wild lol. I have a personal and intense love for The Next Generation, and it's worth for pre-famous Matthew McConaughey and Renee Zellweger. The one that came out in 2022 gets trashed, but I don't think it's anywhere near as bad as people make it out to be. And for the same reason I'm looking forward to the hopefully eventual watch of Saw 2, is I want to hear your commentary on their idiocy! 😅

The victims this time around weren't cliched and behaved rationally. My heart aches for Matt Bomer's character. Maybe because I'm also gay. And Jordana Brewster - I used to have a crush on her back in the day. Her character was one if not the strongest final girls in this franchise. That's why her death took me by surprise. Alanda! If you’re looking for more series, I HIGHLY recommend checking out the “Conjuring” universe and the “IT” movies. Fair warning, both involve children in distress 😅 but they both have so much heart to them. Also, if you’re ever looking to hop into horror shows, Mike Flanagan is an absolute GENIUS with The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor, Midnight Mass, The Fall of the House of Usher, etc! 🔥
