It's fascinating because Michael's presence is so muted and dim physically, but his impact - on Laurie, on Cornell (lol), and on Haddonfield itself - is SO ever-present. Like, the concept that evil is disease-like, passing from one terrible source (Michael) to everyone impacted by his brutality, doesn't even require that he be this undefeatable juggernaut. Michael's darkness outlives even Michael.

One thing I do love about this movie is how Haddonfield kinda crumbled with the aftermath of Michael's rampage. It's basically a cesspool now. Almost like Michael's evil/rage/whatever you wanna call spread to the citizens. They're hurting themselves, hurting each other. Just running on darkness. It even spreads to Alyson a little bit. The way she turns on Laurie. Not exactly supernatural occurrences but grief, anger, it can drastically change someone. Love how the movie shows that throughout the story.

This. When u really think about this trilogy it becomes less about Michael the Killer and more about The Shape AS AN IDEA. In the 2018 film we see it all but destroy Laurie's relationships with her family, in Kills we see the town devolve into anarchy and in this one, it's pretty much warped and poisoned Haddonfield into this bleak and ugly community that indirectly fosters Michael would-be successor

The relationship between Michael and Corey very much reminded me of a syndrome called, "Folie a deux." There was a case of this in twin sisters not too long ago who shared a psychotic break and in turn fed each other delusions. Sabine and Ursula I think. One was well adjusted with a family while the other had mental problems. They had been apart for years but when together one duplicated the other's actions almost by instinct. In their case one was more the "receiver" which Corey reminded me of. Great reaction, I liked this movie.

As a lifelong fan of the Halloween series, I personally loved this film. It’s the first in any continuity of the series that I was able to see in theaters because everything lined up for me and I went opening night. I’ve watched it twice more and then watched several reactions as well. As to why I love this film, I think a lot of my reasoning stacks up to being a final girl fan. I love this series, and I love horror, but Laurie Strode has always been the ultimate Final Girl for me, so her original story arc that ended in Resurrection was so inconceivable to me that I knew she deserved better. Final girls survive, and I knew Laurie had more in her fight than to copycat Resurrection. A lot of people who didn’t enjoy this film are more on the Myers side of the fandom which is perfectly fine - if you’re a Laurie fan, you’ll love it, and if you’re a Michael fan, you’ll more than likely hate it. I love Michael, but I love Laurie more. One thing people have not paid much attention to though and is worth noting is that in the DGG continuity (18-Kills-Ends) Michael is a man, not a dark source of evil. It tinkers with that idea thematically and Laurie says as much because it is what was reiterated often while Loomis was still alive and encapsulates her experience in 78 perfectly… However, in this film with the time jump, Myers is no longer the escaped patient he was in 18 and Kills, no longer the man who was provided a constant source of food and shelter for 40 years. He’s become a hermit, hiding away and keeping a low-profile much as any serial killer has done in the past, and only kills when he has the opportunity to do so (as evidenced by the homeless man’s comments to Corey and the missing posters around the town). He’s grown weak from not being a patient of the state, having to fend for himself for food, shelter, etc. and after having used what was probably all of his might combined with adrenaline from his injuries in Kills to finish the townsfolk at the end, he then had to suffer in the sewer pipes while his body took its time to heal, very irregularly as well I’m sure, which adds to his weakness and inability to do much. His age has caught up with him, so Corey helps Michael to regain some of that fighting strength he’s lost in hiding and because he shares his darkness with Corey, Corey accepts that invite which in a sense makes Michael stronger again because he has help to get back up on his feet and do what he knows how to do again, ultimately killing Corey when Corey forgets he isn’t Michael. I thought it was brilliantly thought out, but I would’ve stayed for another 30-45 minutes for a more fleshed out ending with more fighting and violence. I loved it, but a stronger fight scene would have definitely sealed the deal for me. Still one of my new favorites.

Finally someone who gets it!!! Everyone was like oh my God they made Michael so weak. And I just had to keep reminding them like yo dude was in prison for 40 years getting fed. I love Lory and would always choose Lory above Michael and I still hated this movie. Idc that Michael was weak, it wouldn't be the first time he was in the beginning and then came back to strength and makes sense. Th movie is just not Halloween, plain and simple. Some might enjoy the difference and for others like me it's disrespect to the whole franchise. There is a reason why the trailer showed us none of that Corey BS and basically just used the only good scene (the final fight) to get people to come to the cinemas. It promised us Lory AND Michael and not just for 5 min. Aside from the fact that I really don't need a new protagonist in the wrap up film if we've never seen him before that. Lory often times was also not the character from the other movie. Sorry but pulling the knive out with literally no reason and then her just crying as the grand daughter walks in is just not the woman that appaently trained for decades to kill and protect herself from a killer. Aside from all that, it seriously feels like not a Horror Film at all. In the first 50 min after the Opening scene NOTHING happens... so I respectfully disagree.
@ItaliaPonticorvo2 жыл бұрын
What was stupid about the movie was the time jump. The second killer. And his send off. The rom-com feeling. The time jump was unnecessary, it should have all carried on straight after Kills. End the series that final night. I get what you’re saying and yes it makes sense, people aren’t upset with that, they’re upset because the character of Michael was ruined. He wasn’t Michael. And they had some random dude wearing his mask killing people. Even the kills were bad and rehashed things. It was all unnecessary, long, boring. It’s definitely the worst of all Halloweens (apart from Zombie) Halloween 2018 was a masterpiece and they ruined that with this one. Michael deserved a better send off

@@dakota7314you can disagree all you want, I just stated why I liked it. This was a very different timeline and calling this film “disrespectful to the franchise” is a cheap blow when films like Resurrection and Curse have been around far longer and are much worse and more generic to the slasher genre than they are to the legacy of Michael. Laurie was exactly the character from the other movie - except she’s accepted that she’s a victim, and has gone through much needed therapy to get on with a happier existence. It’s realistic. I’ve seen several hundred horror films, it most definitely feels like one. Just because it has a slow start doesn’t mean it isn’t or doesn’t feel like a horror film. There are a plethora of sub genres under horror, and many rely on slow starts to build tension or develop a storyline.

All of the awesome nods to the original film are amazing! Fun fact: the opening credits were blue just like Halloween 3 Season of the Witch because it's a totally different kind of movie. I thought it was a fantastic nod for fans that knew what they were getting into! I absolutely loved this movie! Much like the original in terms of a slow burn. When it comes to Allyson, I think it was the fact that she trauma bonded with Corey so quickly, that she was blinded by that. Trauma bonding is insanely interesting in that regard. When Corey said, “if I can’t have her, no one will”, I took that as, if Corey couldn’t have her, no one would because of how they view her. But Corey saw her for who she really was. ALSO!! Michael was actually in Ends one minute longer than he was in the original.

The film would've made a great tie in, with a potential H3 remake, if they took the last shot of the mask in Laurie's office, and zoomed in on it showing the Silver Shamrock logo. It would've tied EVERYTHING together in a very meta satisfying way. Also opening it up for other movies within John Carpenter's original anthology idea.

i loved the movie. I liked the idea that since Michael was dying, he tried to train a successor and Corey double-crossing him was inevitable I think what alot of folks are having a hard time with is Michael's screentime and death. I didnt have that issue going in because he's only in the original for 9:30 and he's in this one for 11 mins, plus they hinted at his death and how he would die in 2018. The thing with Corey is there's nowhere else to put him in the story and develop him, seeing as the last two films are a two day event. Also, Allyson is dealing with her grief over Ray, thats why she was dating the older cop and she was drawn to Corey since she heard his story in 2019 long before she meets him. Last, The entire town blames Laurie partially for the 2018 massacre, including Laurie. She says it at the end of KIlls to Hawkins in the hospital. Even Karen blamed her in Kills Thats why she doesnt argue with people when they say it, she feels guilty herself

The problem with this movie is Corey. This is the end to a trilogy revolving around Laurie and Michael, and most of it was spent on some random love story that spanned 6 days and backtracked Allison's character development back to her 2018 self, when she thought her grandmother was crazy. Laurie Strode would not be sitting around writing a book and baking pies while Michael Myers is out there, hiding, especially not after he killed her daughter, Tommy, and a whole mob of people. This film was just completely detached from everything else developed in the trilogy, making them seem like idiots and completely unbelievable, like Laurie and Allison not making a single comment on how Corey has Michael's mask, after he's been missing for 4 years? Or even their calm reactions to Michael being in their house after 4 years, Laurie gets up and hides like it was still the same night in 2018, and Allison just runs in out of nowhere without context and no explanatioin for how she knows Michael is attacking Laurie, and slaps his hand down, and says nothing about the fact that her mother's killer is here after so long. No one in their right minds would blame Laurie, especially since there should've been a statement made by the police on the matter after the fact, explaining what happened. If this was realistic, Sartain's motivation to bring Laurie and Michael together would've been revealed, Michael's lack of interest her also, and his fixation on his old home, leading to many of the deaths, which is why it's now demolished.
@millyoneyedeaz13502 жыл бұрын
@@NimbusTM You clearly don't understand this trilogy. Its about Haddonfield and the Boogeyman, not merely Laurie and Michael. The story isn't random either, Allyson's been fixated on Corey since 2019 when she heard his story and Allyson didn't revert either. She disbelieves her about COREY, has nothing to do with her experience with Michael. You're grasping at straws. Laurie Strode would absolutely be baking,etc. instead of obsessing over Michael. 1- it's been 4 years, it's not the next day and 2- she learned in Kills that Michael wasn't after her. She has guilt abouts the 2018 massacre, blaming herself like everyone else including Allyson does (Same as Kared did in Kills) but she does NOT believe anymore Michael's after her. The movie's not detached from the other two, you're just simple minded obviously. Allyson and Laurie aren't sitting around having a conversation about the mask, they're in the moment in shock, are you slow or something? Middle of a war and you want them to have a discussion?🤣 What you expected Laurie to do, scream like an idiot when she realized Michael was there? Lol, she did what she's supposed to do as one of the Shapes (yes, if you paid attention, Laurie became a shape after 78, which is why SHE also moves like Michael, not just Corey. I also can tell you never lost a child, talking so ignorantly. I have and although you never get over it, you don't stay a fuckin mess years later, as if it just happened. Laurie getting up to hide, says nothing about the time and place, you're just trying to make up shit to complain about. Especially odd for someone who started off saying your issue is Corey, then rattling off all that other B.S. Allyson didn't run back out of nowhere either, she knew something was wrong when Hawkins told her about the suicide call. It's obvious she was in denial about Corey, but you trying to play make believe as if that's not clear in the movie🤭🤭 Allyson broke his arm, "slapped his hand"? What movie did you watch? You can't even get the details straight but you trying to criticize? Weird as hell. You wanted Allyson to start having a conversation in the middle of killing Michael? Stupid as hell. What is with this, "but they didn't talk about it" stuff you're on? It makes no sense. Yeah, nobody IN THEIR RIGHT MIND would blame Laurie and that's the point, they including Laurie ARENT IN THEIR RIGHT MINDS 🙄 If this was realistic, this would still happen. We see people falsely accuse others everyday. We had ALL evidence in the world Trump wasn't cheated out of office, yet we still had a January 6 insurrection didn't we? Hmmmmmmm Last, Sartain motivation was revealed so apparently you missed that in 2018 and Kills as well. Michael's lack of interest was revealed to Laurie in Kills, this is WHY she isn't a doomsday prepper anymore. You literally have zero clue what you're talking about here..

I really felt Allison (Though it could've been written better). She always had a soft spot for Laurie and defended her against all her mom's sentiments but then as soon as Laurie's consistently in her life all her friends, boyfriend and parents die. For someone as young as Allison with such fresh trauma it makes sense she'd resent Laurie. She's basically in the same position Laurie is in after Halloween 1 ( if not worse) & she hasn't been able to heal because she's stuck in Haddonfield and everyone looks at her and Laurie as if they're cursed. Her anger is misdirected but thats kinda the theme of this movie is with Michael gone everyone has to find a new boogeyman to blame.

I also saw Allison through the prism that sometimes people who have been hurt subconsiously gravatate towards people who are messed up. I got the feeling the cop she dated wasn't all that healthy. He seemed like a controlling freak who probably abused his power. After him she goes for the "damaged" kid who everybody thinks of as messed up. Does she want to fix him? Maybe, but I think part of her wanted to live inside the messed up world he was living in. I think she wanted to SHARE the alienation from the townfolk with someone.

He was very interesting and made me very torn. He was a great example of how Michael’s evil has poisoned the town. The fact that Michael was broken and hiding made so much sense after the brutal beating he got at the end of Halloween Kills. It showed that whilst he may not feel pain he was just in fact, human. I cried my eyes out finally watching Laurie end him.

your reaction to laurie’s fake out death was exactly how i reacted, i was so worried that she was actually going to die in that scene!! honestly it was a good movie but for the “last” halloween it had way too little of Michael and Laurie, i wish they had their fight/chase scene longer like they did in the 2018 movie. can’t wait for the next reaction!!:D

I was so worried at that scene as well.😲 Totally agree about wanting a longer chase & fight scene. I was so hoping for a massive long chase & fight scene with Michael vs. Laurie, Lindsey and Allyson at the end throughout the whole house with all three women surviving. I think it would have been a very powerful ending for the three of them considering how Michael impacted each of their lives.

Congratulations on two years. I loved this movie. I saw it in the theaters. I think the issue with this movie is it separated the horror fans/ movie fans from the Michael Meyers fans. If you view these movies back to back, Michael is in a huge chunk of this new trilogy, but this whole trilogy makes him what he was always meant to be from the beginning. He was always meant to simply be a force. The sequels made him a horror icon like Jason and Freddy. If you look at the original movies in these franchises, the villains barely had any screen time. Most people think Freddy was his scariest in the first film where he was only on screen for a total of 10 to 17 minutes. These movies were meant to show the effects of Michael on the town and the people. Ends really emphasized that and I was completely okay with watching Corey’s decent into madness. Michael will be back in another reboot, but as far as this Quadrilogy is concerned, I was happy with the end result.
@donnybuoy2 жыл бұрын
As a LONGTIME fan of the franchise, the original being my all-time favorite film, I really love Ends. It does something brave and interesting, even if it wasn't exactly the right time to do it. But I think 2018 ended the Michael/Laurie saga near-perfectly (after H20), so I was much more interested in Corey's arc and his relationship with Allyson! I would've LOVED if they'd set up Corey as the new Michael and Allyson the new Laurie.
@TheJokesterSCR2 жыл бұрын
You mean the relationship that was overly forced? Allyson creamed her panties upon her first gaze at him. She's a 10 and he's a solid 3 or 4 at best, so it couldn't be that she was just after some man-meat. All she knew about the guy is that he accidentally killed a child. And the fact that Allyson just so happens to fall in love with the "new Michael Myers" of ALL people... give me a break. This movie was stupid from start to finish.

I had a different POV I was releaved Corey DIDN'T become new Michael, I felt Laurie had earned to be the one to end this nightmare, If she had killed Michael and lived or died doing it and there had been another Michael it would have bothered me because of the sheer injustice of it, I hated the bust a Rhymes movie because Laurie gets killed and Michael goes onl To each thier own however,
@sylarplissken Жыл бұрын
I love that you had that reaction at 37:14. That one shot is enough to show us everything that Laurie has lost. It’s quite heartbreaking. I understand this wasn’t the Halloween movie that most people wanted but I thought it was a fantastic character piece, especially coming off the hackneyed writing from the previous two entries. The Corey storyline would’ve made a good stand alone movie but it works even better in a Halloween movie. Also, I think this is Jamie Lee Curtis’ best performance as Laurie since the original. Imo, this is easily the best film in the Blumhouse trilogy.

Bit late but I actually loved this movie. This timeline from the beginning made it clear Michael was just a man with a strong willpower who wanted to go home. He's the only version that has scared and aged(neck wound, burned face and shit cheek etc). The idea here was how bad it is to make an urban legend out of a tragedy. Laurie was stalked but he didn't have a reason for doing it, after Loomis showed he he retreated, went home but again hot hindered. I like the idea of the town becoming the evil and when Michaels gone they needed someone else to fuel the fire. Michaels home being destroyed after kills plus the extreme beating he was served sent him into hiding. He's 65 in this film, Laurie is 61, they're both tired but only one had ample time to heal while the other was left eating raw human flesh in a sewer. I think he let Corrie live simply cause he was too weak.
@unstableslytherin Жыл бұрын
We ain’t gonna talk about how the kid was more at fault then Corey? The lil sh*t was clearly old enough to understand the knife, and to trick Corey into that room. Not that he deserved to die, but Corey wasn’t to blame. He was panicking, locked in a dark and small room.
@syrupthenwaf2 жыл бұрын
I loved this movie, just Allyson and Corey together should’ve been friends instead of love, also yeah remember how in Kills Micheal looks at his reflection? He saw himself in Corey’s eyes which is really cool! Also notice Corey (same can be said about Myers) gets stronger throughout the film, even taking bullets and a knife in the neck at the end, most likely because Micheal opened the gates for his manufactured evil, but it’s cool actually having to think about a deeper meaning in a Myers movie for a change Lol 😅
@TheJokesterSCR2 жыл бұрын
Even if that deeper meaning is very contrived and poorly explained? Not to mention, it's just plain stupid. Michael and Corey were clearly polar opposites. None of this made any sense and was extremely lazy writing.

After watching the movie the first time, I actually got quite cranky cause I almost felt lied to. It had the title Halloween and what I got wasn't really Halloween. The more I've watched it, the more I understand and appreciate what they were trying to do/say... evil doesn't die, it just changes shape. I guess my biggest beef with it, is that it's almost an hour in before we even see Michael and then his role is almost completely absent. No matter what they were trying to say with the film, they can't deny that the audience came to see Michael and Laurie, not Corey and Laurie. There were plenty of times Michael could have been incorporated into scenes without losing the Corey storyline, but they concentrated so much on his character and Michael was almost like an afterthought. It was like they got to the finale and thought "oh that's right, it's Halloween Ends, we better quickly do that I guess".

Michael may not have been *physically* present in most of the movie, but his influence was very much present and felt in every character, especially Corey. It's like the concept of Michael alone is enough to continue his legacy of violence and killing. Even when he's not physically there he's still "killing" the people of the town mentally, emotionally, and spiritually.

Happy KZbin Anniversary! To me, the introduction to Corey was a way to ask, "Is a person born evil or are they created by society and the environment around them?" I think that Corey was created by society and the environment around him, and Michael was created by birth.

I am caught in between with this movie. I didn't hate it at all, but I also didn't love it. The last act of the movie is the strongest, though. Laurie & Michael fighting and going at it - two horror icons for the ages, that's what I wanna see. I loved that part a lot. Well, every time either of them were on screen, I had a good time. Which is why I am conflicted. I was not at all into the romance, Corey bored me a lot and Allyson could have been handled better. So it is a huge bummer that they take up most of the screen time. But I did admittedly tear up at the end with Laurie and Frank. Idk, it wasn't overwhelming or anything - it was just peace. And Laurie absolutely deserved that.

I was extremely disappointed and confused by this movie. The past two films were so connected (obviously it was the same night) and I thought this one was going to be like intense and action packed but it felt like it was so out of nowhere. Bringing in a brand new character that has not existed prior in the trilogy and making Laurie and Michael side characters in what is supposed be their big finale is insane to me. Ending the last film, Michael killed a whole mob of people with Laurie saying he can't be defeated with physical brute force and that each time he kills, he transcends more and becomes stronger (so to me that meant he was in his strongest form) but in this film he's this decrepit old man that can barely move and gets bullied and has his mask stolen by this kid who 30 minutes earlier was getting beat by a high school band geek. Also they had Laurie say "you're just a man" in this film when they've spent so long portraying him as a supernatural being hence the transcending from kills and ability to possess people. It's bizarre. I also hated how Alyson treated Laurie like she was crazy in this like she wasn't the only one in the previous movies to side with her and have her loved ones killed. It just felt like all of the character development for everyone built in the previous movies was thrown out the window. Like Laurie is just fine and peaceful after her daughter dies and shes not planning for his next return?? Conceptually, I think the movie could have been good but the execution failed. Also if this was like some middle of the line sequel it could have been a cool idea but placing this as the final movie of the franchise makes absolutely no sense to me
@LowKiiSavage2 жыл бұрын
26:00 if you remember in Halloween Kills, Laurie Strode said that he transcends after every kill so that kill literally gave him some of that strength back after his 4 year hiatus... Corey even got some of that power when he gazed upon Michael's eyes

Oh I actually really liked this. I liked that it was a departure from what we were expecting. It's imo like they realized that their wasn't *really* a 2 hour movie they could give us with Michael that would chart new territory or cover new ground that hasn't been covered in the last 2 entries (or the last 40 years) so they were like "hey, what if we did something different?" and I kinda like that. I also feel like this did a better job of exploring how Haddenfield has been impacted by Michael than Halloween Kills did, though I think you nailed it when you said it was interesting ideas with questionable execution. That said I'll always appreciate a film for aiming high and falling short than just looking to give us the same old same old.

They gave us a movie, in which only the last 15 minutes managed to wrap up the previous two films. If they wanted the story to go in this direction, they should have set Corey up in Halloween 2018. Coming to the finale of the trilogy, why in the world would you introduce a new character to be the new main character, when all we want is the original 2 characters and then they barely put them in the movie. If this was it's own standalone movie, I'd probably would have liked it, but as the finale of Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills...no bueno! Okay, that's my rant. I loved your, reaction. lol

Many people forget that they were going back to the original idea of Michael that John carpenter had for him, he’s a human with slight supernatural aspects but he’s till just a man. Because of this the director said after the events of 2018 Michael virtually went off to die like an injured or dying animal. Again he’s got some supernatural aspects but he’s still a man & he’s now 64 years old, took all that damage from the last 2 movies & none of those were properly treated & never healed right like they did in 78 after he was taken into custody. You’re right though killing actually does reinvigorate him that why you see him going from hunched over to standing tall again.

I loved this movie! I did get spoiled beforehand, but from how others made it seem, Michael wasn't even in the film at all and it was all Corey up until the final confrontation. So while Michael didn't have a majority of the screen time, he still had a lot more than I anticipated and I enjoyed that. I also really enjoyed Corey's actor and think he did a great job and really made you root for him up until he intentionally became a killer. The gore was really good and I think we got some good tension and scares throughout. Jamie Lee Curtis was amazing (as always), but I also want to give major props to Andi Matichak. I think she was outstanding and had a great range of emotions in her performance. My only complaint is that the final show down was too short for how long we've been building up to it. I think if the final fight between Laurie and Michael had been the last 40 - 45 minutes of the movie and not just the last 25 minutes that it would've felt a little more deserved;
