I'm kinda surprised you had more things to say about Last Action Hero than this movie. This movie is steeped in an almost Verhoeven-level of social commentary and parody. There were messages about political correctness getting out of control, sacrificing personal freedoms for safety, classism, dependency on technology to a fault, living in a Big Brother state, democracy vs autocracy, how good intentions can be twisted and manipulated to serve a corrupt leader who uses fear and rhetoric to secure and retain control, and how governments can construct a shiny veneer over some very real, fundamental societal problems to distract the masses - just to name a few. A lot of those messages become more relevant as the years go on. I'm not you, so I'm sure you could find more (and better) if you took a second, deeper look.

Demolition Man was and kinda is one of the few movies that actually succeed at being a satirical take on the action genre in a way similar to Last Action Hero. It's loving parody of action. There's even a scene, which I'm surprised and disappointed by the fact that it got little to no coverage on, where John Spartan basically spells this out to the audience during the Taco Bell scene. "The Wild West wasn't The Wild West" and so on, and the fact that his stupid-action-hero-antics are what actually CAUSE the entire plot line to happen in the beginning. He is frozen in the first place, not because he's accused of outright murdering the hostages, but because they believe that the hostages were killed as a result of Spartan jumping the gun and doing the whole action hero cowboy cop bit... Which Simon set up to look like, because Simon knew Spartan would do such a thing, compounding the problems of being a action hero type. There's so much that goes into this whole thing.

Simon Phoenix was never given the social control chip as demonstrated with the injection of John Spartan with one. They cannot track him and have no way to identify him for the decency violation. As for the Uber liberal connotation: it seems more if a unilateral decision to change society in that direction for the film when looking further in to it. It feels the Uber conservatism of the 80s (barely) squeezed its way in with the abolition of intoxicating substances and rampant, almost rabid capitalism (fast food wars).

So you didn't like this movie and only did it because people voted for it? I feel like the time spent in your video could've been better served in trying to explore why this film has a cult following then. I agree this is the weakest review i've seen from Mikey. I think it's because he's focus on reviewing the movies is the cinema-craft itself and not the storyline or cultural commentary. Lemme try it...ehhmehm. BUT DID YOU KNOW? The two protagonists, John and Lenina, take their names from the Aldous Huxley sci-fi masterpiece book "Brave New World", which is also set in a overly controlled society. In the book the character of Lenina is a part of the new world society, while John is instead a "Savage", which in the book is the term to which are referred to all of the people that live outside the physical and regulatory boundaries of the new world. Also one of Phoenix one liner in the scene at the museum is literally "It's a Brave New World". Read "Brave New World", if you haven't.

I loved the film and think one contributing factor is that it was very much targeted at it's own time. If you were born in the 60's to 70s and grew up then things made sense or hit emotional notes that don't exist any more. As some younger friends say about these things occasionally when I recall and bloviate on them , "I wasn't born yet!" Similarly, when I started watching listening to 1930s radio and watching 1930s to 1950's movies and television, I just missed tons of stuff. There were people who were *famous* then, who are completely forgotten today. I'm certainly still missing things after a couple decades of watching and listening because sometimes the audiences just go crazy and I have no idea why. But, there are sometimes that *I* go crazy and most people around me wouldn't understand what the hell was wrong with me.

I recently listened to The Projection Booth podcast episode centered around this movie and they interviewed most of the writers involved and... they pretty much debunked any notion that Bullocks character was ever meant to be Sly's daughter. He was supposed to meet the daughter with the sewer people. But it was dropped because of pacing issues. Some scenes were filmed but cut. I'm not sure how certain how confident the interviewees were about what footage made it in and the shot where Sly shields a random woman was discussed... They did also mention the story about the writing buddy having three seeshells in his bathroom, though. That was basically very true. I love this film and am still waiting for the 61st amendment making it possible for Schwarzenegger to become POTUS... :D

Although, they didn't change the name Simon to Jacques (Jack in French), since our version of "Simon says" is "Jacques a dit". Which is the exact same, apart for the name change. Here's why I think you should do TMNT 3. In a nutshell that is inside of another, bigger nutshell that is still hanging on a nut tree(?) in a forest of nut trees that is encased inside of one giant nut. Nut. Shawn of the Dead was recieved QUITE well when it came out in 2004, despite being released in a limited amount of theaters. (And going up against The Motorcycle Diaries and Mr. 3000) For only roughly 600 theaters, it still managed to place 6th or 7th in the box office in the states. It also did quite well in the UK!. Since then it's become the first and best in a long line of zomidies. (Zombie comedies. I just made that up. If someone else has already made it up I'm sorry, you didn't. I just did.) With a score of 92% on rotten tomatoes, it's pretty clear how well it has been received. This movie has had no trouble gaining fans and followers. It needs no explanation for why it's good. Cabin in the Woods, a Joss Whedon production, is an incredible homage to horror movies and all their associated tropes. WIth a strong cast and talented crew, it ALSO has a 92 on RT, (Rotten Tomatoes, abbreviated for brevity so people don't have to read Rotten Tomatoes again and again.) and has changed the face of horror since. It was such a subtle satire of horror tropes, set to illuminate the rut that they had all fallen into, and things just haven't been the same since. At a whopping 21% on RT, (Again, stands for Rotten Tomatoes. It's just so much easier to type RT than it is to type Rotten Tomatoes again and again, yet I feel compelled to explain it so people don't think I mean retweet. I mean Rotten Tomatoes.) TMNT III didn't fare so well the year that it came out. While it WAS 1st at the box office, it still under performed compared to it's prequels, and critics hated it. *stop* Wait. I just started watching it again to get material for this plea to get you to chose it for MWM. Just basing it off of it's oddly english speaking Japanese samuri in the 1600's to a Chucky Cheese style robotic Splinter while rubbery turtles dance to rock and roll music and kinda... jump up and about... This is so much worse than I remember. Okay never mind. Pick one of the other ones. I cannot do your job.
