I would like to add a few things that are very relevant to this video, and I implore people to read this as it could save you HOURS I'd not DAYS of farming. First off there are several locations you can do this at including, hubris comics, super duper mart, and the abandoned house (near bunker hill), but you need to choose the right one for the weapon you want. This is the best medium tier farm I've found, but if you want low tier weapons like a double barrel shotgun or a pipe pistol, you'll want to look elsewhere (like super duper mart). Same thing with high tier weapons like a gauss rifle. The drop for a specific weapon is based on ENEMY LEVEL, not yours, and levels range from low at the top of the map, to high at the bottom, so keep this in mind. Also certain enemies will never be legendary, its hard to tell, but its TYPICALLY enemies that are always the base enemy like "Raider" and never "Raider Psycho" Now the real reason I made this comment is because when you lock a weapon (load the autosave on the interior) it also locks a POOL OF EFFECTS you can get. They all have the same chance of being applied, meaning, IF YOU FARM FOR AT MOST 2 HOURS AND DON'T GET IT, YOU NEED TO RESET THE FARM. This can sound heartbreaking but you WILL NOT get the desired effect. At this point you should load from the exterior, fast travel back to a settlement, rest for 24 hours, fast travel back, and start over this process. The last thing I wanted to mention is that some effects will never spawn on certain weapons (EX an explosive laser rifle, or a 2 shot fatman [discounting the big boy]) so make sure to see if it's even possible first. I've gathered all this information by scouring the internet and testing things myself, I hope by doing this I've saved some people a lot of time.

Solid information here. Most of it I can backup as well either through personal experience or what I've seen proven elsewhere. Speaking of, I've linked a few reddit posts near the top of the description that cover a lot of what you mentioned and then a lot more as well. Definitely worth checking out for those that are serious about farming hard for specific drops and especially if they're higher tier ones like as you mentioned a gauss rifle for instance.

I got an explosive 10mm at the Railroad church and the explosive Combat Shotgun at the NGTY (Combat Shotgun legendary the first time I entered the place...got explosive 10 mins later, very lucky). Where's a good place for Instigating Gauss farm?

@Shvabicu I don't currently know any places to farm high tier legendary, but the ideal place would be near the bottom of the map, in a small interior, with a lot of enemies, and even more ideally, a place that has high legendary spawn rates on specific enemies. Just wanted to point out something here. Suppose you're doing this on Very Hard or Survival difficulty, there is a fair chance for two legendary enemies to spawn in some buildings; like Faneuil Hall. In such cases, only one of out of the two weapons will keep appearing if you're reloading the Autosave and it's better to verify (if one of them is your target weapon) whether it's the weapon you're looking for or the other one. Had initially wrongly assumed that the glitch wasn't working and took me a while to figure it out.

I JUST FOUND OUT TODAY THAT THE MECHANISTS LAIR IS THE BEST!!! the robots that go by on the hanging conveyer belts randomly spawn new robots and despawn robots. But legendary robots spawn. There is a cap to the amount of hanging robots that can be destroyed. But you can only target the legendarys. After clearing the mechanists lair on hard (not even very hard) i got about 15 legendary items from legendary enemies. (About 13 of which were from the hanging robots)

I have tried this for the PS4 and anytime I shoot the robots hanging on the conveyor lines, it disables the final part of the boss battle. No more robots spawn to trigger the next round of bots. Just set and wait but nothing ever happens 😢

I farmed that place for like a week and an explosive minigun did not drop once! So i gave up and started the far harbor dlc and i went to Beaver creek lanes, and i got an explosive minigun on my first try!

It's possible that it may not have been possible for it to drop or was just really unlikely to. There are some restrictions to what certain mobs can drop, how likely it is for a certain item or effect to drop, etc. That's great you got it afterwards in Beaver Creek Lanes though :)

I personally have had success multiple times doing this method but all of the sudden it didn't work multiple times. I thought it had been patched. I realized something. I did this method in Hubris Comics. I discovered a legendary enemy that had a missile launcher. Reloaded the Autosave to farm and killed the enemy to find a completely different item. I realized that there was 2 legendary enemies spawning and 1 had locked in its item, but the other would completely randomize its item while the other would randomize the effect. The times that I thought the game had not worked as we thought was incorrect. I just didn't realize there was 2 legendary enemies spawning.

I spent twelve hours today to lock in a Guass rifle. It was very worth it for me because i'm going to use it for the entire game And I listened to a great book while doing it. That's said farming not for everyone. Easy does not mean fast. Also try to pick levels with a small amount of enemies. If multiple legendary enemies spawn only one legendary will have an item type that lock

@DemonAsylum Gwinetth Resterant has a very small sample of super mutants so that the best spot as only one will be legendary. The stage is also very small. That said , it took me long time. Those mutants have everything you can think of.

My problem with this and I don’t know if it’s because a real bad luck but I’m farming a sniper rifle and I got one, but it didn’t have the effect that I wanted so I reload the auto save it gave me a different affect, which wasn’t one that I wanted so I reloaded the auto save again and I kept getting that same effect five times in a row. Did I mess up?

Doing this on survival has actually proven to not be so cool you have to make runs and it takes a lot longer but after so long I just realized if you just play the game and walk around and explore without motive besides loot legendary enemies will just be there sometimes you get good loot sometimes you don’t sometimes you’re like wait a minute I can just load back a save and try again

Farming seems to be a lot harder on the consoles now that the next gen update is out. Places that I could trigger legendary at lvl 10, the underground sewer system in Concord, won't randomize the legendary effect. It gives you the same item and effect no matter how many times you reload the autosave save. One note when I could farm any of the hot spots, I was on Xbox one console. I have a series x now and have not been able to replicate the same success, but the game is more stable now.

Haven't noticed this myself. Same spots I used to farm and in this way work exactly as they did back then. I do know some spots work a tiny bit differently with how the save scumming and weapon saving goes though. For instance sometimes instead of utilizing an autosave, you need to make a quicksave after entering and then load that instead if you don't get what you want for the effect.

Did a quick search and in multiple posts I see people claiming it can take up to 14 days in game time depending on what/where it is, what difficulty you’re on, and when you were last there. So yeah 2 weeks in game tops I guess.

About 14 in-game days. Sometimes it takes longer. You'll just have to wait/rest in 24-hour increments then hover over the location on your map to check if the "CLEARED" marker is gone.

Yeah you can, you just have to wait 2-14 days in game time. Occasionally just look at the location on your map and once it doesn't say CLEARED anymore, you can farm it again.

Yes. When you clear areas in game, they don't just stay cleared forever. That would be crushing to replayability of course haha. I believe it's around 2 weeks in game time and then you should notice it's no longer "CLEARED". Just keep resting and then checking the location on your map periodically.

I have been doing this for days trying to get any gun with kneecapper, ive tried all gun types, i do have big jim unlocked to have it it as a available perk im level 287, it seem like im pnly seeing a small amount of perks that are cycling out

I do know there are some variables that can come into play when trying to get some specific things. Some effects are also of course less likely to appear than others. Take a look at some of the reddit threads I linked in the description maybe as they provide a lot of the kind of info I'm referring to and may also help you with getting exactly what you're wanting.

Hello all, would like some help. I play on PS5 and am playing the release version of the game as I have a physical copy of the game. I’m lvl 31 trying to get the explosive combat shotgun. I got the combat shotgun drop but my quicksave reloads do not change the prefix of the shotgun. What could be wrong?

Could be either that you're getting quite unlucky since all effects possible in your current locked loot pool should be of equal chance, or it could be what another person commented. They basically said that when you lock a weapon as you did with the combat shotgun, it also locks whatever pool of effects it had as possible rolls to start with. So if there are 10 total effects it could roll, maybe it only locked 7 of them into your current save's pool and 1 of the remaining that isn't in there happens to be the one you want. I can't back this up, but it seems possible and I know a couple of others have gone literally like 1-2 hours farming something that is 100% possible for them to get, but without getting it. If what the guy mentioned is true, you would essentially need to start the farming over until you got the combat shotgun again, lock it, and hope your new pool of locked effects for it includes the one you want, in this case explosive.

Yeah they respawn after up to 14 days in game time I believe. So you can go rest/wait for days and then check the location on the map here and there. Whenever it no longer says cleared, you're good to go.

Yes, but you may need to be level 30+ (recommended level for the associated DLC and some weapons just have a level requirement before they can drop) and or have at least visited the DLC area. I can’t say for certain it can drop in the commonwealth, but in Nuka World it definitely can and so doing this over there would be your best bet.

2-14 days in game time is what I saw when looking it up. So just do some waiting and then check to see on the map whenever the location doesn't say CLEARED anymore.

Correct, that is how it works. The manual save outside of the interior is just a clean slate is all. Nothing for the interior has been loaded at that point so there may be a legendary enemy inside for any given instance or there may not. If not, you reload the manual save and try again.

You have to wait until the area is no longer marked as "CLEARED". It can take up to 14 days in game time from what I saw. So if you want to just wait/rest and occasionally check to see when that word is no longer there, you can. There are of course many places you can find to farm like this as well.

You just have to wait enough in game time for it to no longer say cleared. You can do so fastest by resting/waiting of course. Seems it can take up to 2 weeks in game time, but just keep an eye on the location as you go. Whenever it no longer says cleared, you're all set to go farm there.

It's really not bad imo. There are certainly multiple great guaranteed options for both armor and weapons in the game as well though. Spray n' Pray is great. Nuka World has a couple of really solid handmades too for instance. Far Harbor of course has the Marine Armor. Those are just a couple examples so yeah it's nice to have those as an option alongside choosing to farm legendaries or just getting lucky with a great one while playing regularly.

So fuck all these other spots...the best spot hands down and the enemy is always legendary..is the nucleus command center..save just before you power on the terminal, a legendary assaultron invader comes out of the door after you turn on the power..save before powering on, one shot, check legendary, rinse repeat. Takes about 10 seconds per try, and 5 seconds to reload. Happy hunting!
