I will never go without a kingianum or the hybrid! They really are such a rewarding addition 🤩

My plant blooms pink but gave it me far fewer flowers on my first season, but still extremely fragrant!

They grow wild around here. ( Sydney) I have a collection on my balcony. Various hybrids. Different colours white, lilac most common. Cant kill them with a stick but they like to be dry in winter and good drainage. KingiARnum!
@Grow_Up_Man554 жыл бұрын
Ah thanks for that Ann. Must be odd seeing people nurturing a weed. I'm trying to picture people tending to a pot of dandelions. I'll also try to remember the KingiAAAARRRRrnum! I said on one video I was more inclined to pronounce it that way, then rest of the video saying Kingiaaaanum! If anyone ever wants to find out how much crap they talk, just film yourself and listen to it! 😂

Tropical Plants at 53 Degrees well...they are definitely not a weed. We love our native plants ❤️ I enjoyed your video. We are so lucky to have a perfect climate here.

@@Grow_Up_Man55 Also in Sydney, pronounce it AE, not AR. I guess there's no right answer.

Would you believe I filmed that 'before' the virtual orchid show? It seemed a shame not to publish it after doing all the work with editing etc.

Tropical Plants at 53 Degrees oh, well I would post it too if I put in the work!

It looks like a Dendobrium delicatum, which can be a natural cross between D. kingianum x D. tarberi (speciosum) and the flowers are mostly white. The more colourful D. delicatum is man made hybrid. True species of D. kingianum is a much smaller plant with much less flowers on each stem and usually the colour is pink or mauve so it's also called pink rock orchid.

Thanks for the info. It seems there are many people who have a take on which cultivar this orchid actually is! I've been told it's a Den. Delicatum, Den. Berry Oda, a Den. specio-kingianum and of course it was originally labelled as just a Den. Kingianum (by my local orchid society no less). You sound like you know what you're talking about so I'll take your word for it! Either way, it's a lovely orchid and I love the genus. 😬

@@Grow_Up_Man55 I live in Melbourne Australia and I have D. delicatum for many years. Prolific flowering, showy and the sweet scent lingers. You're lucky to have it. I just wrote a blog about it , you can see the photos to compare them with yours: kiyanti2008.wordpress.com/2020/09/21/dendrobium-delicatum-2/

Thanks I’ll take a look. I also have another one labelled as Den. Delicatum which hasn’t bloomed yet as it’s a division. So it’ll be interesting to compare when it eventually does.

I was given a Kingianum and it was much smaller than that one as the comments suggest seems normal. Grows happily in bark and perlite. Yours is great as it really has scaled up the blooms.

I'm really tempted to buy one, so I'm happy I came across your video... Agh I'm even more confused now!! (It's either this or Dendrobium parishii) Have a wonderful evening!! 😊
@Grow_Up_Man553 жыл бұрын
Glad I could help! Although just to confuse you even more, I'm not entirely sure it isn't a Dend. delicatum in the video, or even a different natural hybrid altogether. (It's an old video in KZbin terms!). The care is the same though and they're all lovely!🤣🤷♂️

@Craig Schultz **siiiiigh** so could you please send one of them with Santa for me?! Thank you!! 😅 Trust me, if I could I'd buy the entire store... So far my wishlist Orchids from just one store is ~400-500€!! 😱 And they always ran out of stock so fast (they are the only Greek orchid store so far) and usually I can't find them ever again, so I must decide which one I *really* want...

My little blooms are very much like this, but they appear on the stem of the plant. Which type could it be?
@Grow_Up_Man5518 күн бұрын
I'm not sure to be honest - there are many genera of orchids with similar blooms - loads of Dendrobium types too.

Ive got one of these in my office, but in 3 years all I've had is leaves, is there anything i can do to entice flowers on it? ill be honest i don't know much about plants at all so any help is welcome!
@Grow_Up_Man558 ай бұрын
This orchid will be fine with 'room temperatures' through spring and summer, but needs what's known as a 'cool winter rest' where it can spend at least a couple of months at around 10 to 15°C - a period when you don't water it very much at all. That's what will trigger flowering but I appreciate those kind of conditions are difficult to replicate in an office. I can do it in my greenhouse just as a natural following of the seasons. I hope that helps.
@daisyflower410528 күн бұрын
To flower they need lots of winter sun.

im sorry but that does look like a den berry oda as well, the alba var maybe? kingianums supposedly are considerably smaller and theyre neither forgivable or easy to grow? I would research that a bit more, my kingianum Alba is at max 10cms tall, tho my berry oda does look like yours !
@abril45494 жыл бұрын
or maybe it even is a den delicatum
@Grow_Up_Man554 жыл бұрын
I'm not convinced you're correct, as yet. My Kingianum and Berry Oda look quite different to me - and the ease of growing is subjective - for me, it's been easy. It was labelled as a Kingianum and sold to me at the regional orchid society as a Kingianum - I would have expected all those years of orchid growing experience to have noticed if there was a labelling error. Having said that, they are very similar as Kingianum is the parent of Berry Oda - so maybe you're correct. For me, the growing conditions are the same so I'm not too worried about it.
