Hey there! These are super delicious! I made these today and they came out super tasty! Just one question... a few of them exploded in the pot of oil which created a rather chaotic and messy situation!! I'm wondering if you know why this may have happened?? Otherwise, they were delicious!
@eatmeerecipes4 жыл бұрын
Molly Connolly heys, glad you enjoyed them. Oh my 😧I have never had that happen to me. Maybe your oil was too hot?
@mollyconnolly17794 жыл бұрын
@@eatmeerecipes thank you for your reply 😊 perhaps it was the oil.. I'm determined to try it again though. Just one more question, do you have the oil turned up high or at a moderate heat? Thank you again 😊
@eatmeerecipes4 жыл бұрын
Molly Connolly I always have it at medium heat, not on high because that can also burn the koeksisters
@mollyconnolly17794 жыл бұрын

Can u replace the yogurt for more milk?
@eatmeerecipes4 жыл бұрын
Heys, unfortunately not... The creaminess of the yogurt will help keep it moist & the acidity helps activate the baking powder, which will make it fluffy and light. This is a no yeast koeksister and you will unfortunately need the yogurt for this recipe

Shaam Seven it will come out extremely soft and fluffy if you follow the recipe, I have a video up on TikTok as well for these no yeast koeksisters vm.tiktok.com/3pX6co/ use yoghurt instead of maas (sourmilk) the full recipe with quantities is up on eatmeerecipes.co.za

These are a different variation. Real South African Koeksisters don't have coconut on them, and would add ginger and cinnamon to the syrup while boiling. Add the koeksisters into really cold syrup immediately out of the oil, that way they soak up way more syrup. I don't want to sound critical, just some advice. I grew up eating these and my grandmother's are the best(That may be subjective but oh well lol).
@eatmeerecipes5 жыл бұрын
Macaela Morrison those are the cape Malay koeksisters that you’re talking about 🙂 because I’m from Durban and grew up in the Indian community, this is how we made them. The coconut is always optional. Also this was a quick version without the whole yeast process.
