Great work! Yes, some tiny little components can prevent a nice amplifier from working.

yes, exactly :).

I am repairing this amp now. The main digital PCB is shourted. The power board that this video is about should produce 5v standby power. It does when unplugged from the digital board but does not when plugged in.

You should voltage inject there with a small voltage, and use a thermal camera to recognize where is getting hot. Most of the time you can find a culprit this way.

@@screen-protector bingo. I did exactly that. It turn out to be a shorted cap. Same or very similar to the caps you had. I'm thanking Denon had a batch of bad caps that go short over time.

Hi Greetings Do you remember which capacitor on the main board was shorted ?
@brad21572 ай бұрын
i have this exact same issue! Digital board unplugged and I have 5VDC, with digital board plugged up, it’s down to 1.5VDC. I assume something it shorted out, probably a CAP like you had. Any idea which one you found bad?

@@screen-protectorWhich thermal camera do you recommend? I don’t want to spend a lot, but I want one that will actually be beneficial.

Nice fix

Thank you. It surprised me to be true. I did expect more than just a 0603 cap to be faulty for pennies 🤣. Not even a fuse blown 😉.

@@screen-protector I get TVs with just a shorted cap it’s quite common them caps failing

@@wisher21uk In the power supply in the TV those controllers for the backlight can go bad as well, not only caps. I found quite a few mosfets. From what I see, faults are mixed in the TV, or it's just me :D.

I paid a local audio repair person $139 just for him to tell me sorry no parts available for AVR-X5200W and we can't solder SMDs. My standby light won't come on after a power surge. My fuses are not blown but has a short on the same board.

i'm going to have another shop install 3 0603 smd 4.7 uF capacitors per your video so I can be a happy chappy :). If it doesn't work, that's ok I'm throwing it away. Do you recommend any particular capacitor manufacturer, hopefully not Chinese copies?
@screen-protector Жыл бұрын
@@mikedodd9294 every case is different. It would be best to just voltage inject in a safe way rather than blindly do anything ;) IMHO. I buy cheap capacitors when it comes to SMDs, only audio ones I don't save money on.

This might actually help sadly, I spent almost $100 sending this equipment back to New Jersey and they are telling me that the whole board is shorted

Hi, I have a Denon x5200h and I unplugged it to plug in a different unit then when I tried to power it back on I got absolutely nothing! I have the cover off, what now
@screen-protector8 ай бұрын
now you should take it to the place where someone won't kill themselves and will know how to diagnose it. Sorry, but I can't be responsible for your actions. There's up to 400V inside.

I had some jerk tell me that it's garbage and it's time to throw it away!
