Density Levels Series: The Semi Dense Pack & Variations | How to Pack Hookah

Sarkis continues the Density Levels Series with the proper execution of the Semi-Dense Pack and all variations - the Light Semi-Dense, Heavy Semi-Dense, and Semi-Dense Plus - using the formula he created to allow you to attain accuracy regardless of shisha tobacco brand or type, or bowl size or type so that you can execute your Pack Method accurately and effectively.
The formula for a Semi-Dense Pack is 87.5% of a Dense Pack, which is 90% of a Cement Pack (Maximum capacity of bowl), placing it exactly half way between a Normal Pack and Dense Pack.

If you are using a phunnel bowl, there is a large center hole. With a dark leaf that requires a semi-dense or denser kind of pack, you dont need to worry about restriction if using the preferred phunnel bowl like an Alpaca Mini Rook for example. Air flow is not being blocked. An Egyptian clay bowl or bowls with several holes at the bottom would be a case where densely packing the shisha will cause restriction, because u are blocking the air flow. This is why it is not optimal at all to do that in that style of bowl. The dark leaves that require semi-dense packs for the sake of this specific video would not be optimal (in terms of having a flavorful session with clouds and smoothness for 2+ hours) if u packed it fluff or creating excess air pockets. Certain brands require this denser pack because it allows for the shisha to burn evenly for the duration of the session and last as long as the brand calls for. Fluffing it or doing a drastically different density pack is only taking away from your session. But if you like it a certain way, you're welcome to try anything you like. This video simply demonstrates how to understand the percentages of your bowl capacity and how to reach the exact amount needed for this particular pack method and its variants. Hope this helps.

This tobacco doesn't need for it to be fluffed. Not all tobaccos respond the same way. If this tobacco were fluffed it wouldn't be "optimal". Meaning it potentially won't last as long, it would burn far too quick as well. It also not be full flavor for more then 20 mins. Not every tobacco will respond the same with the same kind of pack. You should attempt it and see for yourself. That's how I learned, as well as sarkis guiding me through various videos he has posted in his Facebook group, discord and Instagram.

Hi Mogammedali, from the 2m55s mark and on I literally fluff pack the tobacco and explain why it’s important that every pack method starts with a fluff pack. But to achieve a semi-dense one must load it more then press it down just right. It’s not a fluff pack, it’s to achieve a semi-dense. This series is to showcase what each density level looks like and how to achieve it. As described in the video’s description there are a number of notable brands that take a semi-dense pack range pack. And for the record, we haven’t gotten to dense pack yet - that’s for next week:)

@@SarkisAlexander yes i rewatched the video and then it made sense about how it started as fluff and you gently pressed it down. I will try this today and share the pack on fb group only if it feels restricted versus how i use to do it which is fluffing a little bit not like other fluff pack of course. All these calculations of shisha is coming from your mat and videos, so whatever i have been doing and will do from today would be in context to density level methods.

@@mohammedaligwala1 with egy/classic bowls it might feel restricted, in which case pack it with creating a hole thru the shisha at the center of the bowl. With phunnel bowls restriction would come from packing the bowl too high and the tobacco leaving no room between it and the foil. It’s partly why most denser pack density level recommendations come with a “slight underpack” qualifier as shown in my Density Level Guide. Keep these things in mind and thanks for all the support:)
