The aluminum foil shiny side up or down doesn't matter. They both conduct heat in exactly the same way. Why that one side is shiny is because of the manufacturing process causes it, not heat reflectivity. The only way that could make sense is if you put the less-reflective side outward. It will absorb more heat than the shiny side would have. Also, the shiny side will help heat build up under the foil. But the double foil is a very good tip. Thanks Jake. You are awesome. I leave my Al Fakher in the original packaging envelope. For me it's about flavour. Losing any of the juice reduces the flavour enjoyment. AF mint is a personal favourite. Cheers Chaz

Jake, thank you so much for this. My friends and I have been struggling for years with this brand, we were just about to give up on shisha altogether when we discovered your videos. We ordered some Tangiers Phunnels, and a few nights ago we tried them out and the smoke was perfect. No nasty goo ran down the pipe into the vase (we were on Egyptian clay bowls before and this always ended up happening), and we also did your purge method to keep the vapour nice and smooth. I'm relatively new to prepping hookah, not smoking, but at the moment when I pack AF I just sprinkle it in the Egyptian bowl, not packing it, don't let it touch the foil, and it's good to go for almost two hours. Funny thing that I get a good session out of that especially when apparently I'm doing it wrong :P I guess if I packed it right I'd get more smoke...

For me what always worked with Al fahkers in my mod bowl combo ( one with a small wind cover like thing on it) I use 1 coconara coal with a wind cover on it the whole time, smokes GREAT!

With a regular clay bowl, AF packed below the foil with 10 holes mostly in the middle of the foil and 2 coconaras smokes wonderfully for me. :D

@microbigkid321 Medium is a pretty big but not too bad. You will definitely be using up a little more shisha than you would have with a small phunnel. Great for group sessions though.

@FamlayShishaSmoker Correct, although I would definitely recommend picking up a foil poker like the one on House of Smokes but a toothpick works ok. It's just not as sharp and precise.

@afrokid4211 No matter how small the hookah, you still always want to use three coals on a phunnel bowl. Granted of course that you are using a phunnel bowl equivalent to the ones in this video and that you are using square shaped coconut coals.

I am getting a HJ Alien Mini Phunel Bowl soon and was woundering if this method would work with that bowl? I also get a vortex with it. Do AF work good in a vortex? Other then that i only got 3 MOD-Bowls that i really don't like. Because Hookah is close to illegal in Norway it is really hard to get stuff for the hookah and even harder to get shisha. I only manage to get AF from a small shop 8-9 houres away in Sweden.

iv noticed than when i smoke al fakher mint in a "Mya Jumbo Ceramic Hookah Bowl" that it come out perfect but when i try to use watermelonon orange, it comes out harsh and extremely strong, ( hurts lungs and cant inhale) so could it be im heating it too much? i use 1.5, 3 kings insta lights but when i take off the half the smoke dies out? but i can taste it better , but i stll want alot of smoke

I do not own a phunnel I own a Vortex because I smoke a lot of starbuzz and Fantasia but also fakhar grape mint is my favorite flavor is it worth getting the phunnel bowl or will my Vortex be fine it doesn't burn and I do marathon sessions also I pack like star buzz any help is appreciated keep up the great work

switch up the packing and foil pattern and coal placement. If the method jake does here doesnt work, try another one. The one I use is I fluff pack above the rim a bit then pat it down. Foil it. Poke small holes all over. Put 3 cocos half off and let it sit for maybe 10 min then take a puff.

@hookahrev Just finished another smoke, this time with Al Fakher Mint. So smooth, it was incredible. Lasted for hours too, three coal rotations. Seemed to take a while for the vapour to get thick, I think it might be because we used two foils instead of one, what do you think? Was still tasty and smooth from the first pull, barely needed to purge at all.

@maspast Agreed. I bought Al Fakhir energy drink and it was harsh as crap and i was so frustrated because i felt that it was a good flavor but i couldnt pack it correctly. I changed to this method and WOW i couldnt be happier. Had about an 1:45 to 2:00 hour session. It was amazing. Thanks for the tips :D

for me tangier's phunnel was always sold out so i picked up a phunnel bowl from local smoke shop it wasn't tangier's and it was really cheap(i think it was 7 bucks and it look different then tangier's) but i finally figure it out to have great session. i packed it like a video and i use only two coals since if i use three i always get a burning taste after 5minutes.

Jake, I just got a phunnel bowl and did your style if packing and the foil kept getting sucked in the spire the harder I pulled. I also tried a loose pack, same thing. Poked alot of holes and tried little amounts of holes. It kept happening. I need help on packing so the foil doesnt get sucked.

But thats not the point, why would i have to avoid soex?Or atleast can you tell me the best herbal youd recommend. Two questions: 1) Any reason for 2 layers of regular duty foil as opposed to only 1 of Heavy Duty? 2) You speak of a Coco Nara redesign. I know this is an old video, but the coco nara's I have now don't last an hour and a half. They last maybe an hour. Usually, between 45 minutes and an hour, they get too small to produce a good amount of smoke. Am I doing something wrong?

How thick was your foil? Hookah foils tend to be kind of thin. If you use two layers of hookah foil or heavy duty kitchen foil, that should help.

I hear you shouldnt poke the hole right in the middle over the hole that sucks the air because if the coal is over it - it would really ruin the taste? Any feedback on this would be good.

1) Yes, two regular has a different depth which controls heat better than 1 HD. 2) Correct, now Coconara's have become extremely consistent in quality. I've switched to Cocobuzz, give it a shot.

@rafire34 Al Fakher (AF) is a great brand. It smokes great out of my Egyptian hookah with a standard Egyptian bowl. Since they mostly do single flavors it's great for mixing. One flavor I HIGHLY recommend is pipe. It has a bit of a chocolate flavor. It's great for mixing. Pipe with strawberry or orange make a nice combo. AF is VERY juicy. That extra juice goes well with the Nakhla Zagloul. Look at some AF reviews on here from truehookahking. That should give you a good idea of what AF is like
