I am a heavy bruxer and so got a zirconia crown for my #19. It was fine initially with no issues. I always had TMJ issues (popping) but they got really bad and I started having pain at the tmj joints and it was hard for me to chew. That’s one year after i had my crown (can’t say it contributed to it). So I had to go to a TMJ specialist to get an appliance that corrects the issue. After a year of using it, the pain was totally gone but my beautiful class II occlusion was all messed up. That’s when the new problems with my zirconia crown started. I started getting headaches on my left side. I guess because of the malocclusion, the crown was hitting hard at the wrong places and causing headaches. So I had the crown replaced with a ceramic crown. The headaches were gone, but I started having sensitivity on that crown and pain on chewing hard stuff. The crown couldn’t even hold up for more than one and a half years to my bruxing forces (though I wear a night guard). I am in a lot of pain now and very sensitive. There’s probably inflammation in the pulp cavity (I am on top of things with my hygiene). I am seeing the dentist next week and probably will get a gold crown. Gold crown has been around for long and is time tested.Hopefully, it will last a life time for me. I don’t want any more crowns to be replaced. With my personal experience, I learned that if you grind and clench your teeth heavily, don’t go with ceramic at all. You probably could chip off a PFM crown too. Zirconia and gold are your options, but if you don’t have a perfect occlusion, you could have problems with zirconia. My new dentist says she has seen similar problems like that with her other patients too with zirconia crowns. Gold could be the best option for the molars, though it’s not pleasing aesthetically. Sorry about the lengthy post. I just wanted to share my experience. I wish I had watched this video before I had my crown the first time around. It would have saved me a lot of pain and money. I got my first crown this past Tuesday. It's the porcelain kind because my dentist office don't offer anything else (which I'm fine with). Luckily I didn't have to have a temporary one since they make them on-site. It was a huge process and I think I now understand why crowns are so expensive

I had three crowns replaced by a dentist. When talking about what I wanted I said I would like porcelain/ceramic. It took a couple of visits and during the last one I was speaking with the assistant before the last crown was cemented and she said "oh these are Zirconia Crowns, we use that term interchangeable with porcelain/ceramic". I have found the zirconia crowns were on the grey side for color and one had a open margin.

Hands down high noble metal PFG crowns are the best. Yellow gold crowns, inlays and onlays are best for posteriors.

I have 2 cracked molars and I think I’m going to go with gold because everything I’ve read for the research I’ve done it seems like the best option because they won’t really be seen and the longevity of them it whats the best. I cannot get the porcelain fused to metal because I’m highly sensitive to basic metals, they irritate my skin and from what I’ve read people who are sensitive to costume jewelry or non precious metals could likely have a reaction, which would be awful to have a reaction inside your mouth. So, I think it’ll be gold for me!

I got 2 gold crowns installed on 2 premolars, right upper jaw 4 wks ago. Gold crown composition is 70 % gold rest are alloys, including 8 % copper. From what I have found out, copper content is to give color, strengthen the gold. Now I'm experiencing a metallic taste, copper flavor. I had 3 gold crowns installed left upper jaw, 1 premolar , 2 molars back in 2016, never had any problems till now. My dentist said it's a galvanic reaction between old , new gold crowns. She's recommended removal 2 new gold crowns, installing 2 zirconia crowns. She said there's 8%c copper in the alloy mix which is a non noble metal. Copper is present to strengthen & color the crown. My question is, can dental gold alloy have no non noble metal in the mix such as copper? I red noble metals are resistant to corrosion, acid built up. I feel copper in new crowns are the problem. My parents in their mid 80's most of their teeth are gold, never had problems. I chose gold because, best material, lasts long time, gentle against opposing teeth, lesser percentage of tooth removal for crown install. Look forward to your reply.

Zirconia crown preparations typically require a minimum preparation design compared to PFM meaning that you don't need to reduce as much tooth structure in order to have a strong material. I like zirconia and gold for posterior teeth. Im so glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks for supporting the channel

I'm a jeweller, what do you think the chances are that a dentist would allow me to make my own crown? They would have to provide/make the wax crown piece and I could cast it with my own special gold alloy mix.

yesterday Side of my tooth broke off my molar filled route canal tooth. they break seems to be horizontal at gum line. My dentist has put off doing a crown due to crown lengthening as there is hardly any natural tooth especially now left up top. wondered what would be a better solution a implant or a crown? .Tooth has sub optimal route filling done by a non private dentist over 10 years ago but has been asymptomatic and regular xrays have shown no issues. Question: I want to get permanent gold teeth, I'm not sure if it would be crowns, bridges, some kind of implant, or a combination of these. Do they just cap them or you can get fully solid teeth? And do I need to have all my messed up teeth drilled, repaired, filled or pulled first? I have had a few removed, currently have two broke off with just roots still in, 1 where my old filling came out and Its open in the middle of the muller, and two canines are heavy decayed like the front part by the gums got deep cavities like half gone to the core, so over all my teeth are in bad shape, I would say only 12 of my teeth are in good condition with no issues other than maybe some gum recession. I'm guessing I need a dentist to fix everything and then do the gold but idk, any insight would be appreciated.

Seldom the dentists that will have the crown made does the implant. Usualy they ara a team, one is the surgeon and the other a prostodontist or general dentist. Typically pedodontists use a stainless steel crown that is presized and modify it chairside to be delivered to a kid. But honestly talk to your dentist and see what they can do! I live in Houston, Texas and my Endodontist charged me 1,300.00 for a root canal for a fractured molar (last molar on bottom right.) Sorry Michael. Cost for most crowns vary between 800 - 1500 depending on location. Gold crowns vary in price depending on the market rate of gold. Emax crowns are typically the high end of that range while PFM / Zirconia is on the low end of that range

Dentistry is ridiculous. A crown cost me 1200 dollars. For a little half an inch block of zirconium milled in a little machine for half an hour. All they have to do is put it in and press a button. Done. Now for that kind of money I could buy TEN brand new air conditioners or 100 new box fans, or 400 boxes of cereal, or a new laptop. Think of the man hours and materials that went into the manufacture of those other items. Dentistry is outrageously overpriced like all healthcare.
