Well I don't know if it's my favorite but I own a 1978 ford ranger explorer. It's a short wheelbase its 2wd and it has the 357m/400 small block engine it's numbers matching engine and transmission it's also factory whimbelton white with a green leather interior it's a one time owner with 15k miles and I love it

It’s funny how I haven’t been around one of these trucks since probably 1982, yet when you open the door the particular sound the door handle makes and the sound of the door closing is unmistakable. A sound that you haven’t heard and don’t think twice about can be recognized decades later.

Am glad you don’t have neighbors like I have. I am NOT in an HOA. (But in Pennsylvania) But apparently there is a law on the books, that says, any vehicle on homeowners property, must be inspected and insured. I had a 1988 Ford Motorhome Van, with over 200,000 miles on it, backed into my driveway. It was complete, all body parts and tires in good shape. I was saving up money to get the motor and transmission rebuilt. The code enforcement gave me 2 weeks to get it insured and inspected! I asked about getting a cover. She said no. I had to sell it cheap. I found out who turned me in. She has across the street, 2 old cars that have been sitting there for 15 years, but since those people have done nothing to me, I won’t say anything. As I drove around town, there are a lot of cars, boats, and motor homes that have covers, but I can’t. It turns out, that code enforcement only goes after people when there is a complaint. I think the woman who turned me in was upset that I use to shovel her sidewalk and driveway without charging her.

What makes it a "vehicle"? I mean, what if it were fully disassembled, in boxes? What about partially disassembled? Point I'm trying to make is somewhere between fully assembled and fully dissassembled it's no longer a vehicle. Perhaps that point is convenient enough to achieve.

I was 14 in 1979 , I still remember seeing the new ford trucks on rail road cars being transported to the dealership. What a beautiful sight. I actually got my 1978 f250 4x4 , but not until 1988 !

1979 F350 4x4 , Custom, 460, Automatic, equal lock rear end, Air, front push bar with lights, duel fuel tanks, crew cab, long box? Am Fm stereo, CB radio, heavy duty towing package, delay wipers. Not sure all those options are allowed with each other but that’s MY dream truck. Dark Forest Green.
@DentsideDepot
@DentsideDepot Ай бұрын
That would be what many people would want (myself included), but Ford unfortunately never offered those together. No 460 in the 4x4 trucks (easy swap though) and no long bed crew cab 4x4s, only 2wd short 4x4 or long 2wd. Both of those things till make no sense to me at all, why no 460 and why no 4x4 crew long bed when the crews were meant for railroad and forest work etc where the long bed would be needed? Makes no sense.

I have even watched yet but got to vent my story. We all sit and say if it was 1979 what options would I get. No shit my dream every option perfectly, was for sale in my salty truck rusting neighborhood, I got first refusal at half what it was worth and turned out it was form New Mexico rust free. Wife said buy it! Like a stupid adult I wated a day and decided if she is onboard and with two kids and dog I should hold out for a 79 bronco instead of two door pickup. I regret it every day!

Dad bought a 78 F250 Ranger Explorer two wheel drive new. Didn’t order it but it was one the dealer had on the lot. $6600. Was brown with the wide orange and yellow stripes. It had AC, tilt wheel, cruise, the convenience light package, dual tanks, intermittent wipers. It had a heavier rear bumper than most of these trucks had. Maybe that was an option. It did not have a radio which I always thought was odd. Was an automatic with the 400 V-8. Lot of people said that motor was junk but that one pulled a trailer with a 580 Case backhoe regularly and never had a problem. The ignition brain box quit once and the transmission was rebuilt at 120,000 miles. Ford used that 400 in everything and I think they retarded the timing a lot on that truck for pulling. It was slow even when empty and mashing your foot to the floor but it would pull anything. Retarding the timing may be why the motor lived that long. They were known for throwing a rod. I miss that truck.
@DentsideDepot
@DentsideDepot Ай бұрын
Thats a great truck and yes you are correct about the 400. With a cam, headers, 4 barrel and an intake they basically double the power from the factory

To this day, I remember dad ordering his 78 on the telephone. I remember it because he said short bed, and dumbass me thought it meant a bed you sleep in, so I kept yelling to get a TALL bed until he gave me a verbal correction. “Shut the hell up, I’m on the phone and you don’t know what we’re talking about!” Still remember after 40+ years.

I would go for most of the options listed as well as a couple extras. I like the two-tone paint with the racetrack trim and the hood emblem! What option group would that come in? Colors I would pick would be brown and orange, orange and white, yellow and white, and maybe blue and silver.
