DENVER, NC - Lake views, hometown feel. Denver, North Carolina has a mix of both.
Located west of Lake Norman, this unincorporated part of Lincoln County has less than 3,000 people in the community. Yet, new business is popping up, especially around NC-16.
“We purposely chose here because we knew it was going to grow for a long time,” said Greg Law.
Law opened a furniture store here in Denver nearly two decades ago.
“There’s been some large manufacturing and just a lot of shops opening up. Right? Especially right in here in this corridor,” explained Law.
More business is coming in despite a population that’s declined since the pandemic according to World Population Review.
Maria Dunn is the president of the Denver Area Business Association. While she is happy with the business coming in, she believes the community lacks large venue restaurants and shopping centers.
“The only places to shop are Walmart, the grocery stores, and Lowe’s,” said Dunn.
What appears to be missing from the community is a centralized area for people to get together.
“Whether it’scar shows, flea markets, we wanted to have an amphitheater and provide a place for people to get a large group of people together,” Dunn said.
Dunn said the Denver Area Business Association was given a grant to buy land to fix that problem. That’s easier said than done.
“Developments have really taken up all the property. I mean, there is really no property to be purchased around here,” explained Dunn.
