I once made a studio-recording of the Korean folksong 'Arirang' with a mezzosoprano singer, based on the beautiful version that was played by the guitargirl on the boat, right after the awful Kimchi song. Unfortunately cut from this segment, but I thought it was the best and most humane part of this episode. That bit alone deserves an award. It hit me like lightning. You couldn't help to wonder what was going on behind those weary eyes, while these guys thought they were on a booze cruise. I don't trust the harmonica guy at all and these guides look absolutely terrified of saying or doing something wrong. The series is good, but, even though it accidentally revealed something very interesting, this particular episode was a selfish endeavour.

So interesting! Does she like it there? Does she feel like a prisoner? Does she realize there's places where she can be free? Ugh...so many questions I want to ask North Koreans.

It's a place full of questions. Our take: Many people understand what is going on and see through the propaganda. No one will come out and say this directly, however one can carefully read between the lines. When the cameras were not rolling the conversations we had with many North Korean's were fascinating. They are curious about the outside world. One day soon we hope its people will be free.

I'm so jealous. I've been to South Korea and it was such a weird feeling to know that just north of there, there is country totally and literally in the dark. I probably wouldn't do good in North Korea because I would ask too many questions and then I would try to sneak people out. LOL. I know NK will never be a totally free country but I hope that before our leaders (my leader, you lucky Canadians) can peacefully stand down. The thought of bombing women and children is sickening.
