I was a club dj when this dropped, this song damn near got me fired, I blew out the speakers TWICE. Club owner made me mark the mix board pot so I couldn't blow out another one.

Love this song! Great reaction😊♥You do need to hear the rest of 'Violator' (and The Cure's album 'Disintegration'...1989 & '90 were great years for music!) Yep, Depeche Mode did influence Nine Inch Nails. Trent Reznor has said Depeche Mode was one of their favorite bands, and that he was inspired to start writing NIN's debut album after he saw a Depeche Mode concert in 1986.

Two great albums The Cure - Disintegration '89 Depeche Mode - Violator '90 The first for me the best album in the world... Other great albums from the late '80s New Order - Technique '89 U2 - The Joshua Tree '87 Peter Murphy - Love Hysteria '88 Love and Rockets - Love and Rockets '89 Two somewhat forgotten groups, although I have seen some lost reaction: Transvision Vamp - Velveteen '89 The Wateboys - Fisherman's Blues '88 Two other more forgotten groups that I haven't seen any reaction on KZbin... The Essence - A Monument Of Trust '87 (with its great song "A mirage" the Extended version is great and it also has a Spanish version "Un Espejismo") Invisible Limits - A Conscious State '89 (With great songs like "Golden Dreams", the New Order Edit version is better than the album version and the beautiful and emotional "Natalie's" written by the singer to her best friend who died in an accident) And finally an album of EBM (electro body music) and Industrial Techno Front 242 - Front By Front '88 (With great songs like "Headhunter", "First In/First Out" or "Work 01" and of course the b-side of the "Headhunter" maxi which is a Bonus track from later editions of the album, the great song "Welcome to Paradise v1.0"

Thank you for reacting to the album version instead of the single version that doesn’t have that epic 90 second outro. An Alan Wilder masterpiece.

Glad you played the album version. Much better than the video version that’s missing the beats at the end of this song. Definitely do: Halo, Policy of Truth and World in my Eyes from this album Strangelove, Never let me down again, and Nothing from Music for the Masses So many more amazing songs but start with those

Depeche was wayyyy before NIN however if you want the OG inspiration to NIN it would be Gary Numan and songs like his #Metal or #Cars of course. I've been a fan of all three for decades and decades. There are more pure "Industrial" bands out there as well - One of my favorites is Nitzer Ebb who opened for DM at Dodger stadium when I saw them live. #Godhead is a pure banger

For me personally, "Personal Jesus", when it came out it was a song that I didn't like, in fact, in my opinion, it was one of DM's worst songs to date. I liked the b side much better, the "Dangerous (Sensual Mix) )", is infinitely better. Of course, the versions they played in the clubs, "Holier Than Thou Approach" and "Pump Mix", have one of the best bass lines in electronic music.

An "industrial tech" sound is a good description. It does sound like they influenced '9inch nails'. Very '80s. Putting persons on a pedestal, a personal Jesus, often does not end well. Like your take. (do you have a degree in psychology?)
