4c hair doesn't mean coarse. It just refers the the curl pattern. Coarse is referring to the circumference of the individual strands. So a person with 3c hair can have coarse strands and a person with 4c hair can have fine strands.
@abawitx9 жыл бұрын
This is correct and always the most misused term in the natural community. Most 4c ladies say their hair is coarse when they mean dry. Most 4c hair is very very fine (the diameter of the individual strands) and very Dense/thick (lots of hairs per square area)
@Eden5195 жыл бұрын
Remnants of internalised issues / negativity. Coarse is considered in a negative way (not just a data point) so I've noticed people do this when they think there's something wrong w/ their hair. Whereas my hair is quite coarse (medium density but each strand is thick and can actually hurt if you stroke it the wrong way. Like getting a paper cut. Or a pieace of thread. Off-topic but so necessary -- Am I the only coarse-haired person that this happens to??) but it's healthy and moisturised and I don't appreciate people using the term to describe a stage of damage.

Further, I Praise God & thank you because this goes right along w/ my natural life journey. I've been eliminating products from my life in general. I now make my own home cleaning & skin care products with ingredients such as baking soda, vinegar, lemon juice & of course water. - Ex: baking soda & water fades dark marks faster than any cream on the market. After 3 weeks of using the baking soda mask my dark marks have faded by 75% and my skin is absolutely radiant and acne free. So now I'm excited about the water only hair method. Thanks for sharing!

Been doing this for 3 weeks now. I noticed that when I went in the shower to wash my hair I would detaile with just water and hardly lose any strands of hair and my hair was fully detangled, but then when I would go to put conditioner or sulfate free shampoo suddenly lots of hair would start to come out and I couldn't understand why so I just started washing with water and my hair is so soft, and like you said I still put oil in my hair. I googled to see if I was crazy for doing this and have come across soooo many people doing the same! Thanks for the video and God bless!!

it's funny how folks don't still know what 4c hair looks like in 2016. Her hair is textbook 101 4c hair (fuzzy cottony small coils and no "Guinuine" baby hairs). Folk usually say this when they see 4c hair that is long and can't believe 4c hair grows long. She has simply mastered handling it with balancing its moisture levels keep it supple soft and elastic and stretched

Low porosity means your hair struggles to absorb water/moisture but once it is absorbed it holds on to water well. High porosity means the hair readily soaks up water, but it does not retain water or moisture well or for a long period of time. If you hair dries out quickly then it is more than likely highly porous ie high porosity Also 4c only describes the size of the curl pattern it doesn't necessarily mean all 4c hair strands themselves are thick/coarse, 4c hair can be and is fine as well 😉

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and demo of the regimen. I have been on this regimen for the second time since September and I too have 4C, low porosity hair. My hair loves the daily rinses and never gets over moisturized but I don't have the length of hair you have. With my dense hair I have to keep it in medium two strand twists but I undo each twists under the water to detangle and distribute the sebum from my scalp to my ends. Initially I had to add oil to the ends of my hair, but once I had full sebum coverage the oil wasn't necessary. My sebum provided the nutrients my hair needed. I however, am an over-producer of sebum so I have to clarify my scalp every 2 weeks or my sebum begins to block moisture from getting into my hair strands. You will find that your hair will become more defined and elongated as your sebum starts to weigh your hair strand down. The Water Only Hair Washing regimen is the greatest regimen for my hair and it appears that is working well for you as well. Your hair looks rich, full, and healthy

Karen Alyssa wow thanks for sharing!! Ive started seeing definition now :-) Thanks formatting Karen blessings xx

***** When I am on this method in the winter months, I have to clarify every 2 weeks. My sebum produces at an abnormally high rate. The product I use is all natural and is phenomenal. I use the Moroccan Mud-Poo Hair Wash by Shea Terra Organics. It's messy but it's fabulous. The clay removes the excess sebum and the essential oil in the product seals in the moisture. I keep stocks of it because it's so wonderful. My suggestion is to determine how much sebum you produce first to see if a clarifying product will be necessary. Apple cider vinegar mixed with water works well for clarifying the scalp without removing all of your sebum.

Your hair is gorgeous! I do this method kind of- I wash my hair with African black soap every other week, and water rinse with oils as many times as I workout. It really helped my hair reach normal porosity. I practically have no breakage.
@BloodyBlackHearts218 жыл бұрын
you mentioned in the cons that you need to nourish it. the idea is to use your sebum to nourish your hair. you just have to be patient and use your hands to move the sebum down to your ends. it's not so much about the water. its really about the sebum, which acts as the conditioner and leave in and gel and everything you need to have healthy hair. the water is just the cleanser and it helps the sebum move down your hair.

I'm glad I found this video. I did not know that 4c texture could reach those lengths. Your hair is exactly how I want to see mine. I was halfway there about a year ago and I put the crochet braids in and destroyed it. Because not only is my hair 4c it is also fine and thin. EVERYTHING damages it. I found that combing it out with my fingers under water after a good conditioning really worked and I saw some real definition with my curls because of the Ogx products I've been using, but once again I've just finished cutting off about 4 inches due to damage because of braids. I want to end this cycle and the only way I can do that is to have it long enough where manipulation is unnecessary and maintenance is a breeze. My face is really round and only long hair styles complement my features, hence the reason I'm always monkeying around with it. I'm definitely subscribing

I've been doing this for about a month. I wet it every day with warm or hot water, braid it in 4 braids, put a plastic cap on (green house method) and I keep it wet all day every day. I find if my hair tries to matt up I just put it under the water and it takes out any matting or tangling. I'm loving it and my hair grows so much faster. I'm going to keep doing this for a year and then press it to see how long my hair has grown. I am loving this process. I love your hair reminds me of my hair.

I plan to try this one day using your coconut oil method and afterwards spritzing with rose water - because another youtuber (can't remember her name) says it keeps her hair moisturized.
@lisakerns226910 жыл бұрын
First, thanks for the video. I have been doing the water only method for some time. In the beginning, I went through of few of your experiences. But, as I went, my hair was in better shape. I have the same hair type you do and the only problem I may face is dry scalp. I use to do it everyday but now about every 2 to 3 days still works for me. Now, I don't like the heaviness of the products so much. I also now rinse with 1/4 cup organic apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup steeped organic Rosemary tea and 2 cups of water combined with a ph balance of about 4.0 - 5.0. I use balance strips sold on amazon.com. My hair stays moisturize until the next rinse. For me, braiding my hair in medium twist works. It doesn't get tangled trying to take it out. Also, borrowing hair when twisting can also tangle the hair when taking them out. To avoid knots, I found doing it under the water prevents it. Just the way I do it to make it work for me.
@TheLordsPrecious10 жыл бұрын
Yes, once I got full coverage, medium and medium-large twists didn't give me much trouble, especially under the water..the sebum makes it separate like butter. I've been fortunate enough to not have scalp issues since I stopped relaxing and using grease.

I have 4c hair and I twist it in large sections but I use a hyaluronic acid gel and a butter and the Senegalese method. I make sure the to coil the hair tightly in the opposite direction I’m going to twist (not pulling at the scalp, just til the roots are smooth) and when it’s time, I can wash my hair with zero matting-even if I borrow hair while twisting. When I retwist after washing, I moisturize, unravel the very ends first, then all the way up, and uncoil each section of the twist. It comes apart easily without any combing or anything. And I think the key is the Senegalese twisting method. The hair is so stretched and tightly coiled it can’t tangle. I just was saddened to hear that people are having to cut their hair because it matted. I absolutely cannot wash my hair loose because it shrinks so much. I lose so much hair just trying to detangle after, and because of the shrinkage, it’s so thick I can’t get a thorough cleanse. Washing my hair loose is a complete no-no for me.

Hey, great video! I'm 23 days into my own water only hair washing journey. I read that using oil on your hair actually cancels out sebum just like it balances out the oil when you oil cleanse your skin. If you preen outside and inside of the shower, then you will receive faster full coverage so that you don't feel like you need coconut oil. Before you get full coverage, using the coconut oil on your ends is more effective instead of applying it to the length of your hair. This is obviously just my opinion, and what I've researched!! You and your hair are such beauties. :)

OneLittleGypsy11 aww thank you! wow congrats on doing it too!! how are u finding it? I find the middle section of my hair (between roots and tips) gets dry hence why i apply oils all through out, i did try putting it on the tips only and i experienced matting, so this is the best way so far for me, thank you for watching sis blessings and love x
@OneLittleGypsy1110 жыл бұрын
Congrats to you too! I really, really love it. It's very freeing not to have to rely on products. I love how 'real' my hair feels without any product on it. My roots are very soft and moisturized, but my ends are very dry and seem to get straggly more often. I'm so excited for full sebum coverage, but I feel like it'll be another couple months. It looks like your hair is loving water only washing, it's so vibrant. Good to hear that oils have been working for you, lady! I probably shouldn't be so anal about only using water and nothing else, but it's working alright for me. Can't wait to see your updates! Be well, and thanks for making wonderful content.

Iam.struggling with reading and understanding the bible want to read it on my own before joining others but I very drained n depressed lately but getting better ans I know that is a sign of the enemy trying to keep me from God..well I had to be honest because I really do want a stronger relationship with God

Dephne Madyara i agree was going through a really difficult time so depressed and also physically ill with multiple conditions but the moment i made a commitment to read the word every morning and night, and whenever i felt a tad bit low, and to talk to God about everything even just to thank him for waking up, i saw a change , i feel so light with this sense of inner peace and joy I've never felt. it not all rosey still have off days , but feeling God's presence and the holy spirit, even just singing praises truly is uplifting, body and soul :)

Use an amplified bible, a dictionary, cross reference, and concordances. Checkout Bible gateway online for a digital version.. Listen to pastor preaching but be open minded and not gollable always questioning. My fav is Charles's Stanley, checkout tbn or Oneplace.com

Your hair looks so shiny, it really looks like you've done something different. I will have to give this a try. I am afraid of the tangling however. My hair is a beast with matting. Question, I know you don't like to comb your hair, but have you ever tried the seamless comb? I just bought some and I really think they work better than my fingers. Your opinion please, if you have ever used them.

Dephne Madyara Are the braids you put in while in the shower the same braids that create your braid out? Also do you find you have to wrap your head in a t-shirt or towel to dry your hair within the 3 hours?

Anyone who tries this must know that it takes time for your hair to respond properly. The first month my hair was resistant I have 4b hair. I twisted it and let it do its thing and finally it began to work great. I use ACV rinse if my hair has a build up. I haven't used products in six months. My hair has never been healthier. But it takes a lot of work to see the benefits. Anyone who does this has to be prepared to not use products or else it won't work.

My hair type is 3B/3C and would love to try this method but I was wondering is it necessary to braid your hair in the shower or to use coconut oil before washing? Right now im washing my hair everyday w only water (sometimes with a conditioner) and after that im using á leave in conditioner. Once a week I shampoo my hair but since my goal for 2015 is to live more eco friendly I want to try this..It just seems a lot of work and I'm not sure if I have the energy to do this everyday. Is it also possible to just wash my hair with only water everyday, without braiding it or putting coconut oil before washing..and afterwards use an oil to moisturize my hair?

Hey Dephne. Thanks for sharing. How did you attain this length to begin with? I've been natural since 2009 and I'm not even at half of your hair length. I feel like my hair has stopped growing. I mostly wear twist outs and I only use Shea Moisture products, along with natural oils. Any advice for growing natural hair longer?

Help! I do not speak English so I will explain how I understood this method please correct me if I'm doing wrong (my hair is 4c). 1. Clean my hair chemicals Bentonite Clay. 2. I made several twists in my hair. 3. Then massage my scalp for 5 minutes. 4. Rinse with warm water and then with cold water. Now what do I do? I must repeat step 3 and 4 every day until my scalp is full of sebum? 5. When my scalp sebum I have Massaging, Scritching and Preening? and then repeat step 4? 6. My hair is very dry because I will only use water as do I get to moisturize while the Total Coverage Sebum? How do I can use coconut oil?

Hey Dephne! I've been a natural ever since February of this year and I follow your regimen. I have 4c low porosity hair. I do a water only wash every two days and I also style it every two days. People say that low manageability is a factor in hair growth, so will styling my hair every two days slow down my hair growth? Can anyone give me any advice? Thank you! 😊
@NikkiHarrisFilms10 жыл бұрын
This seems like a very simple method. For styling do you use and products? Also do you make more than 6 braids so your roots don't frizz out? By the way your hair is beautiful.

How do u style your hair after th water washing and what products do u put on ur hair to seal in the moisture if anything? I want to try the water only washing I have low porosity but my hair is 3b 3c I'm finding that my hair isn't retaining moisture at all.

Good evening, I have a question for you. First, you have amazing and beautiful 4c hair! I have 4c hair as well. The issue I am having with my hair is my roots. My roots are thicker than the rest of my hair and sometimes more difficult to detangle or comb through. It seems like the roots do not retain as much moisture as the rest of my hair. Did you experience this problem in the beginning before you retained the hair length you have now? Also, what helped your roots to soften and be more easily able to manage? Thanks, Kayla

Hello! Luv the vid and your hair is AWESOME! I'm not trying to be confrontational or nitpicky but want clarification on something you said. You said you have 4c hair 'which means your hair is coarse'. I have mostly 4c hair (very tight, dry coils with a Z pattern) but my hair is NOT coarse. Its is annoyingly soft and sensitive to humidity. (i wish it was cuz coarse hair holds a style longer n looks better when straightened). I think curl pattern. . 1,2, 3 etc is separate from texture . . soft, coarse etc. Two ppl can hv the same pattern but different textures and viceversa. Am I mistaken? is there another category for my hair?

lovely hair! i also have low porosity hair and since doing the water rinse i've noticed faster drying time. My question to you is do you use Any Protein treatment? I have thin /high density hair, so i use Protein to keep hair strong.
@Cindy997659 жыл бұрын
Protein treatments are okay, but don't do them more than once every 6 weeks, because too much protein can make the hair snap off, but if someone has thin or damaged hair, they will need more protein treatments so probably for them once every 3 weeks

I have one question - is it okay to do the water only method when you have box braids in or cornrows? or should I just shampoo and condition as usual? love the vid btw xx
@zazilicious9 жыл бұрын
Hi thank you for the video. Do you oil your hair after the water only wash? Because until the sebum cover all the hair strands doesn't the hair get dry? For example in week one or two.
