Who uses the Cut Page and the Source Tape? Do you find it's just a great way of viewing clips, building select reels and rough cutting? Reply here!

The Speed Editor is designed for the Cut Page usage. I am going to put good use of it tonight. A fellow built a walnut rocking chair for his pregnant daughter. Chair was just presented. I have a utility, Bulk Rename, that allows sorting on date fields in metadata. So, I can easily order all clips and stills in order. Easy to make a sequential timeline. Have done the sorting before, this will be the first time making a full timeline. The clip names from the cameras should allow for adding camera number so I can try syncing by waveform. That’s the plan. Expecting the usual number of setbacks, naturally.

Hi! your vidoe was super helpful. thank you! I have a questions. I got footage from a DIT and when i'm looking at the clips in source tape, I have selected to list them in alphabetical since the DIT labeled them per the slate numbers. However, I now have duplicates of each file: one with the synced footage, the other with the non synced footage. is there a way I can quickly remove these non synced files so that I do not see them on my source tape? thank in advance!

Nice video! I find, that though I like the Speed Editor, I have memorized or created most of the keyboard shortcuts, so I tend to stick with them more often than not.
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean. It's been so long before a great product, like the editors keyboard or the speed editor, existed so we've had to learn the shortcuts to be faster. Now it's almost slow to do anything else. Thanks so much for watching!

Aloha Alex, this question is about the new proxy workflow and how it works with color grading. Is color grading totally independent of proxy or original files? Do you have to make proxy media before any color grading? When you color grade do you have to go back to the original source file to grade? When I've graded a proxy file and then gone back to original I have noticed a gamma shift which makes me think there is a specific workflow that needs to be followed. Thanks for your help.

Aloha Keith! Thanks so much for your comment and watching the video. So you don't have to make proxy files at all. If you do for editing speed's sake then depending on what format you've chosen to render your proxies too, will dictate whether you 'should' grade them. I say 'should' because you can grade with the proxies turned on and then turn them off and the grade will remain with the original media but if you are keying especially then you'll want the original media for grading so I would normally have proxies for the edit and then switch them off and being the grading work. Does that help?

Thanks for taking the time to make this very helpful clip. One question, do you ever run into a situation where the Source Tape audio is very low? The same files in Source Clip or the Timeline mode sounds fine, but all audio played back in Source Tape mode is extremely quiet. I can't seem to locate a dedicated volume for Source Tape. Any thoughts?

I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment. I must say, I've not come across this myself. I'll give it some thought and come back to you if I can reproduce or think of something to try.

is there a way to scrub through the source tape with a scroll wheel (on a mouse) without having to click with the mouse pointer? In other words, use a scroll wheel like the speed editor dial?
@AlexCameron-Depiqd Жыл бұрын
No is the short answer but I do really like that idea. I'll recommend via the new feature request forum. Even if you could hold a modifier down to get this functionality it would be pretty handy for many. Thanks for commenting that suggestion.

@@AlexCameron-Depiqd No worries at all! I found a little work around since posting this comment: - Enter the "Cut Page's "Source Tape" window - Put your mouse pointer over the icon which looks like a < 0 > - Use your mouse's scroll wheel and it scrubs through the footage, albeit quite slowly... It's not quite what I was after, but it's a decent option for some I'm sure. Thanks for making these vids =)

Hi Alex! I am new to your channel! Great content btw! I wanted to know how you became a certified in davinci resolve? How long did it take? Did you know much about the software before you became certified?
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
Hey Seewo. *Thank you so much* . Glad you found me! The process of becoming certified isn't too long but there is an application process before you're invited onto a Train the Trainer course which is approximately 3 days, I believe, and followed by an exam. The exam is not dissimilar to the Certified Professional User Exam you can find on the Blackmagic Design website - www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/davinciresolve/training but it's just more questions in the same amount of time. If you go to the link above and scroll about half way down you'll see there's a section talking about Training partners and there's a link to email them and find out more. I'd been using Resolve for about 3/4 years and had to demonstrate a little knowledge and experience before being accepted. Hope that helps.

Ive encountered an issue and would love if someone could give me a hand. I was in the cut page source tape, selecting the portions of my clips that i wanted to use from my bins, when all of a sudden all the clips on my timeline went offline... but nothing in my media pool was offline. It looks like davinci renamed my clips to "76 Clips - 'Bin Name' " everytime i pulled them onto my timeline from the source tape.. so now i cant relink them
@danielvilliers6123 жыл бұрын
The problem is that if all your footage is in the same souce bin and it becomes too long, how to you zoom in is what unfortunately is not shown.
@AlexCameron-Depiqd3 жыл бұрын
Great point Daniel. What you can do is mark an In and Out and then press Source Tape again and it will zoom in to that section.

Thanks for your comment. You're not wrong it's been available since DaVinci Resolve 16 but I still get a lot of questions about it from my students and see people complaining about the Cut Page and it's purpose so thought that this video might be useful to some and saves me answering the question multiple times 😉 👍🏻

Sorry to hear that the screen capture is blurry. I haven't head that from anyone else before. I'll look into it so thanks for your feedback. Is it just this video that you find that issue or on the others too?

you might not like this comment. I subscribed and your topics seem relevant. I recognize your example videos from the Black Magic training and suspect you had a hand in it. I further expect you are perhaps too far away from a newbie like me [BaSc EE 1971, 79 now, lots of Aerospace and Defence experience, including the upgrade of Canadian and Australian F-18s back in about 2004]. Still, can't remember what the amazing Cut Page feature is. and, since I own a Speed Editor, yes, newbies do invest, it was something of interest. Your fast speech does not work for me. Even at 75%, no help. Worse, you have a sort of stream of consciousness style. Not good for me. I need clarity. at 79, I can tell you I have strived for clarity all my life. Back in the days of telexes, and 12 hour time differences between me and head office, I had to make sure I was clear. Didn't stop them from not doing what I wanted ... I think you have a lot to contribute. Seems like I'm late to your channel, but maybe you will see this and it might guide you. or, tell me to go away.

Edward, I’m so very grateful that you’re here as a subscriber and thank you for your time in watching the videos and also taking the time to provide your feedback. I take on board your criticism and will certainly bear it in mind. You’re not the first to say I speak fast. Believe it or not, I actually feel like I’m slowing myself down 😂 I also am conscious I can go on a bit and the length of my videos is longer than average so trying to balance that and I think talking fast is a byproduct of that. Fully understand your points though. Bear with me and I’ll try to improve the experience in future videos! 👍🏻
