It would be a shame to abandon Kaufman Stadium. It was far ahead of its time as a baseball-only park. But I get wanting a district, ballparks are one of the only venues that make sense in an urban area because they can actually sustain businesses around them.

Problem with Kaufman is there is nothing around it, no night life, no restaurants no nothing. For football that's fine its once a week on a Sunday. For baseball its a lot of walk up ticket sales and last minute after work type thing.

The “K” then known as Royals Stadium was built when there were all those multipurpose cookie cutter stadiums. Having it completed in 1973 was unique. (A sportswriter called all the old cookie cutter stadiums as concrete ashtrays.).

I've always liked Kaufman Stadium. Such a unique design that aged well after the disastrous cookie cutter stadium era. Yeah it is in a bad location though. But I've often thought it would be cool if they would build a ballpark village thing in the parking lots around both Kaufman and Arrowhead stadiums. Would be pretty cool. But oh well.

People think the Chiefs are going to build an entertainment district, but they are not. It makes no sense to and they are not planning on doing so. Moving the Royals downtown puts them near several entertainment districts and also gives the Royals some potential development opportunities as well to create new revenue streams. It will also put them near dozens of hotels and thousands of people that can walk to games. They won't build a full blown district like P&L, but more just mixed use development to compliment the stadium. Placing the stadium near P&L, Crown Center, Crossroads etc will be most of the "entertainment" for fans visiting the stadium.

As a royals fan, I've hated this whole saga. Seeing a game at Kauffman is a better experience than almost every other MLB stadium I've been to. Downtown is crowded, hard to get into and expensive. They haven't listened to the fans.

Disagree. Been to hundreds of games at Kauffman and have been to nearly every other ballpark. Kauffman is about the middle of the pack. The location really drags it down. But the stadium itself is really starting to show its age now. I mean it's been a great stadium, but it's getting very old and will need a lot of work to keep it going for another 30 years. Outside of the outfield, most of the stadium feels extremely dated and it needs a lot of work. Too much work to justify spending in that location. It just makes more sense to build a new stadium in a better location than spending the same amount of public money on another renovation. KC people are starting to overate the stadium just like they were too emotionally attached to the old MCI terminal. It was past time to replace that too. Arrowhead can be renovated because NFL stadiums are different animals. Used rarely, need much more parking and simply cost way more to build new since they are larger. The location doesn't matter much for the NFL experience so those stadiums don't really belong in urban areas while MLB stadiums should be in more urban areas.

Being a Minnesota Twins fan living in MO and going through the Metrodome and Target Field. Believe me the people will show up downtown for MLB. And Arrowhead will bloom. Gotta be and outdoor stadium.

The majority of regular game attendees love the K and Arrowhead. Tailgating is a big part of the fan culture in KC. The only people I know who want a downtown stadium never go to games. A lot of people I know will stop going to games or to less games if the K moves downtown.

Arrowhead is one of the best stadiums in the league. You can sit anywhere and still have a great view. If they want more suites, put them up top like Green Bay. Taking away lower level seating destroys the atmosphere

There is a lot of devlopable land around Truman, even beyond the limits of the existing parking lots. A well planned, mixed-use community should be built around the two existing structures, not just an 'entertainment district.' It should include apartments, shops, offices, restaurants, hotels, parking garages and landcaped tailgating lots, and transit connections to downtown and elsewhere.

KC should forget about renovations and just build something new without a roof. KC is not getting into the SB rotation. Its not big enough dose not have the hotel space or other amenities. They could do a partial roof ie like hard rock. I just see renovations as a band aid.

KC is big enough. I mean even Indy and Jacksonville have hosted it. I think Nashville will host it with their new stadium. All of those cities are smaller than KC. But I do agree that KC would not get into a rotation. It would be one and done. Just like Indy, Minneapolis, Detroit etc. It's not that KC is not big enough. It's mostly the weather.

KC does not really have the hotel space and other amenities that the SB wants. Its not population sizes its what the City has. There are some very bazar requirements. They should maybe do something like Buffalo is doing with an overhang to protect the fans or partial enclosure of some kind.

Kaufman stadium is great and it’s not in a horrible location. It has easy access, great parking and lots of history. Downtown will have limited parking but will gave the ownership the entertainment district that they want. Problem is, they want taxpayers to pay for it.

I worked as an usher with the Royals for 18 years! 100 percent of EVERYONE I have talked to DO NOT WANT A DOWNTOWN stadium! I think the Royals are holding this over the tax payers head! I could see a new stadium on either side of the present stadium or even South of Arrowhead! I am 100 percent against the downtown stadium!

I can remember going to old Municipal Stadium in the 60's. No parking, took forever to get out of there. The Truman Sports Complex solved that. I guess we are doomed to repeat our failures.

Why don't they just start adding features around the area they are already at and freshen it up. Some stores and restaurants in the outer area of parking. Making a while experience for locals and visitors! And that revenue can help refresh and maintain what we have.

The simple solution for Kaufman and Arrowhead is fund public transportation to have busses running from downtown to the stadiums since they're so far away. it would generate revenue with fares, create jobs, and increase attendance, but it has been repeatedly shot down by the teams because they want free taxpayer money.

I believe that the Chiefs have discussed inclosing Arrowhead Stadium in some sort of Dome for a while. It's the only way Kansas City will ever host a Super Bowl, whether or not the Chiefs are in it!😉

I live in KC and I can tell you that if they try to put a ballpark in downtown KC it’s going to be a nightmare. Downtown KC has no room and very limited parking.

Apparently you don't live in downtown KC; there is a ton of space/unused buildings and lots. TMob Center accomodates 18,500, which is more than the average attendance at a Royals game and downtown handles that parking easily. KC is just used to free, easy, and adjacent parking in the suburbs (which exists in spades). Any urban area parking is not like suburban parking and suburban residents tend to hate the experience. But yeah, sometimes you have to walk a few blocks, or pay a few bucks. I would bet you that it is about the same as the cost (if not less) than Truman parking [just checked $50-100 for chief's game tailgating?!?- yeah way cheaper; last time at a Roylas game it was $20 at least] and you will likely walk even further than a city block or two in that parking lot. But it does feel different.

Kauffman unfortunately has seen better days. I agree it is an iconic baseball stadium, but you hit the nail on the head. It’s just not convenient for the modern fan. Looking around Kauffman, you can tell it’s on, or will be on its last legs in the next 5-10 years. The 2009 renovations were excellent but I think the time has come for the Royals to move downtown. Going to be hard to say goodbye, but it’s time. Appreciate your videos on the Truman Sports Complex, which will soon be turned into MahomesWorld.

They are not passing a new tax, they are extending a current sales tax for 40 more years. Neither team will ever leave KC. This is just greed. They want to control and make money at not only the stadium, but ALL around it. I had chiefs season tickets for 27 seasons and their is no need to upgrade it again. It is just another way for the owner to make more money. KC doesn't ever need to have a Super Bowl here. Both teams fill the place when the teams are good, they don't go when they suck. The Royals are going to keep under spending until they get what they want. As soon as Mahomes burns out and Andy Reed retires get ready for a decade of losing teams. Same with the Royals. But they will still have all the cash they made and control of everything around it forever. Most people don't know that Clark Hunt is a huge World Cup Soccer guy. The Hunt family has even built soccer stadiums out of their own pockets. So if the Royal leave, they will make a parking lot for a few years and then he will want tax dollars to build a new Soccer stadium. It will cost millions to demolish, but Jackson County Home Owners will pay the bill.

We’re not that great of a sports complex here in Philly. Philly has a subway train that takes you to the complex. Btw the Sixers want to build an arena in center city. Idk much about the location of surrounding the Truman sports complex. All I heard was that it’s in the middle of a car centric hellscape so you need a car to get there..I’m sure the stadiums themselves are nice and lovely , but the location could do better. Football stadiums can definitely get away any location (outside or inside the city limits), but baseball ballparks are a different story.
