I'm from the Philippines and 53 years old. as a child, KZbin hasn't been invented. but I remember clearly that I do the Peanut Butter and Mayo sandwich often. I really love the combination a lot. My two siblings thought I was weird and abnormal for doing it. But I don't care because I love them. Then I tried the Peanut butter and Sandwich Spread and loved it as well. Sandwich spread is like a combination of Mayo and Pickle Relish. Worked really well with Peanut Butter. :)

To this day if I'm craving something both salty and sweet and completely off track of my normal eating routine, this is my go to...It happens once a year and my children know it too because they either come home to me baking the white bread or find the loaf in the bin( Bread bin not the trash..lol)

Peanut butter sandwiches were a common lunch when I was a school boy in the 60's . In our household, we used Miracle Whip instead of mayo. When I got a bit older, I tried pickles and it became a favorite. I also like peanut butter, bacon and jalapeno sandwiches. In fact, Whole canned jalapenos stuffed with peanut butter make an amazing snack or appetizer. Love your posts, they are welcome trips down memory lane. Many of your recipes were part of my childhood, as my mother lived through the depression.

My mom and Clara , the lady who had a depression era food channel, were not only the same age but their birthdays were less than 1 weeks apart. When I was a little girl my mom would make me and her lunch while the rest of my siblings were in school, and I’d watch soap operas with her. One of the many sandwiches she made was peanut butter mayo and onions. It was unusual but it didn’t taste so bad. I never made it again but now I know where that recipe came from.

Growing up, one of my favorite sandwiches was a peanut butter and maple syrup sandwich. The daycare I went to couldn't afford much food, but they would mix together peanut butter and syrup (about 2 parts pb to 1 part syrup, I think, though you can play with the ratio as you like) and just put it in a sandwich! It's become a comfort food of mine.

From the midwest US (Ohio, Indiana, Michigan, Iowa, we moved a lot). I don't know where he came up with it (or if he saw family make the sandwich originally), but my older brother would make peanut butter, mayo, and braunschweiger sandwiches. I am pretty sure my parents never gave this idea to him. I tried it once, and really liked it. I've had them several times in the intervening 45 years or so, but they're very rich and heavy, not something I could eat a lot of. :) My brother was into sports so he really needed to pack in the calories and this sandwich certainly does that.

I love peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. I mix the mayo into the peanut butter a bit while on the bread. I've also had dill pickle and peanut butter and mayo. Just as delicious.

Now I finally understand the origins of the peanut butter and mayonnaise on top of sliced banana my mom used to fix us when we were kids. (I'll be 58 in two weeks.) She was a child during the Depression, so I imagine that would have been a real treat to have. To this day I cannot stand anything with bananas in it, even the smell of bananas makes me queasy. I like mayo and peanut butter, though, just not together.

Olson's Law states that if you mix any two foods together, it will taste at least as good as the worst of the two. (This is assuming that the two foods don't interact with each other poorly. For instance, lemonade and milk don't work because the milk will curdle.) By trying to mix foods, I found out that pizza and hot fudge go surprisingly well together. I'm going to try these sandwiches.

What you have is called Arachibutyrophobia, it's an unnatural fear of peanut butter sticking to the roof of your mouth. Although I personally don't think there's anything unnatural about it.

One of the best catfish places in Albany Georgia has a house appetiser of sliced Vidallia onions, bread and butter pickles, buttery captains wafers and mayonnaise. As awesome as the catfish was it was more difficult to finish than you could believe after several servings of crackers, pickles, onions and mayo… lol 😊delicious

I’m a retired firefighter and I used to work with this guy who made this sandwich that he called a hangover sandwich. It was white bread mayonnaise peanut butter and American cheese fried like a grilled cheese sandwich. Sounds gross but it was so great! And there’s a whole group of recipes on Pinterest -depression era recipes and they’re really good. Check it out.

My grandmother used to make sandwiches with peanut butter and deviled chicken (Underwood) and it was really good. Another weird food combo my friend told me about was boxed macaroni and cheese and grape jelly. I tried it once. It wasn't bad actually and the two ingredients complimented eachother. I never again ate the two together.

My cousin who is in her 70s I believe, made me one of these when I was 12 maybe 13.(I'm 21 now)and at first I was a little grossed out but now if I really think about it I'll eat one once in awhile. She also made peanut butter and bologna sandwichs also. Again they're not as gross as you think.

I have to say, simple sandwiches are great! You don't need a lot, to make a good sandwich. These sandwiches look great!! My Grandpa grew up in the depression and ate like this. We would eat like this at his house! One of my favorites is a Kumato and onion sandwich. People use tomatoes but I prefer a kumato. A kumato is basiclly a SUPER sweet, juicy and non-gross tomato. Kumato comes from very special tomato plants and produce extraordinarily sweet fruit. Without the off putting taste or smell red tomatoes can have. I eat it on Sara Lee artesano bread. Other breads never taste right and ruin the sandwich. Slice the kumato, slice the onion, one slice of WHITE AMERICAN CHEESE ONLY, add some mayo and miracle whip. It is so simple, yet it is so good! Emmy should try Kumatos, I'm sure she'd love them. I have a bunch of depression cookbooks and they have great recipes!!
