Emmy, my grandma (and I'm 70) used to put Miracle Whip instead of mayo in PB sandwiches. I think the tangy sweetness of that is actually better. We had this a lot when we were kids. And people often use the word Mayo when they are referring to Miracle whip. So that may be why you didn't taste an obvious difference.

Any kind of unsweetened nut butters go really, really well with savory, sour, or spicy foods. Sweetened works too, but it’s not as versatile. Peanut butter has got to be one of the easiest foods to combine with other foods. There are hardly any flavors that it clashes with, unless of course you hate peanut butter itself. I’m a big fan of combining pb, lemon, soy sauce, and fresh basil as a sauce for all kinds of savory foods. It’s amazing.

Peanut butter sandwiches were a common lunch when I was a school boy in the 60's . In our household, we used Miracle Whip instead of mayo. When I got a bit older, I tried pickles and it became a favorite. I also like peanut butter, bacon and jalapeno sandwiches. In fact, Whole canned jalapenos stuffed with peanut butter make an amazing snack or appetizer. Love your posts, they are welcome trips down memory lane. This is reminding me of when I was a kid. My mom would make peanut butter grilled cheese. A thin layer of pb works. I remember not being able to taste the peanut butter and it just adding to creaminess of the cheese. We used butter on both sides of each slice of bread. Mom's go to quick dinner, though, was Velveeta shells mac and cheese, canned tuna, and peas. It was my favorite thing to eat as a little kid. I went into foster care as a younger teen but now that I'm 18, mom and I rebuilt our relationship so she makes this for me whenever I visit her from college.

I love peanut butter and pickle sandwiches...the way I make them is to put a thin layer of PB on both slices of bread add the pickles and grill it like grilled cheese...the PB on both slices of bread keeps the pickles juicy....if they are too juicy use paper towel to remove some of the juice...try it and you may start to like pickles...

As I was watching this, I was thinking that it might be really good with the onions sauteed. I had eaten peanut butter and pickle sandwiches before (and liked them a lot). But I had the idea to experiment a bit. Grilled the bread (thinking like a grilled cheese sandwich), sauteed some RED onions, because I like them a bit more than just white ones, then spread the peanut butter on the bread and alternated layers of sliced dill pickle (home made) with the carmelized / sauteed onions. Freaking awesome, in my opinion.

I came up with a peanut butter sandwich about 40 years ago and still love them but I can't get anyone else to even try them. Toasted bread spread with peanut butter then take an egg, any way you like as long as you leave the yoke runny. fry it, soft boil it, poach it whatever. Put the egg on the peanut butter and enjoy, it's fantastic, don't knock it if you haven't tried it.

my grandpa used to eat lard and sugar sandwiches as a kid during the depression. he was in the middle of 6 boys. he said if they wouldn't have lived next to the river, where they hunted and fished, they would have starved. spread it on thin like butter, and cover with sugar. since cake frosting is just lard, and sugar whipped up, i guess it kinda makes sense, but it wasn't for me.

Olson's Law states that if you mix any two foods together, it will taste at least as good as the worst of the two. (This is assuming that the two foods don't interact with each other poorly. For instance, lemonade and milk don't work because the milk will curdle.) By trying to mix foods, I found out that pizza and hot fudge go surprisingly well together. I'm going to try these sandwiches.

~ Peanut butter & Mayo have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember 😋😍 During all four of my pregnancies, I had to have PB on almost everything: deli meat sandwiches, pizza, I dipped chicken in PB, I’d spread it on steak, warm it a bit and mix it in my cottage cheese, spread it on the bread of my tuna sandwiches, I even craved a hotdog once and had it with PB, sauerkraut, mayo, ketchup, mustard and relish. 😍😋 🌭 however, after giving birth (each time), my craving for PB would always go away 🤷🏻♀️ I’ve been plant-based for just over a year. It seems to have triggered a whole new love for PB all over again 🥜😍 I love peanut butter mixed with/added to a wide variety of foods. • Burritos: peanut butter, hummus, pickles, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, sauerkraut, black beans, sprouts, onions, salsa, spinach, lime juice, hot sauce • Sandwiches: PB, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, lettuce/spinach,mayo (dairy-free), smoked paprika, black pepper • Nori Rolls: PB, rice, cucumber, avocado, onions (dipping sauce: coconut aminos, wasabi, PB) • Chick Pea Salad: PB, chick peas, pickles, sun-dried tomatoes, celery, onions, garlic, lemon juice, hemp seeds, bell peppers, pickle juice • PB as a dip for pickles • PB & pasta with marinara sauce 😍😋😛 Blessings ~
