How come youtubers like this are less known? Soft spoken, calm, sweet youtubers are my favorite to watch. I like learning from those people. Emmy, my grandma (and I'm 70) used to put Miracle Whip instead of mayo in PB sandwiches. I think the tangy sweetness of that is actually better. We had this a lot when we were kids. And people often use the word Mayo when they are referring to Miracle whip. So that may be why you didn't taste an obvious difference.

Random addition to this convo: In my house we buy both mayo and miracle whip because they each have their better qualities for different things. For example, I don’t like MW on my regular turkey and cheese sandwiches but I also don’t like regular mayo on my tuna sandwiches. For this reason we are stuck buying both and use each for different purposes. P.S. peanut butter is delicious on burgers!

This is an older video, but just popped up in my recommended videos. In the 60’s my 2 older brothers ate all of these combinations including p butter and jalapeño, and p butter and sardines growing up, but the peanut butter/onion also had yellow mustard. It was actually my favorite. Our mom would get so upset when she found out what they made myself and my little brother and sister eat for lunch. Can’t say they tortured us because they ate these as well. We laughed about it as adults.

I'm from the Philippines and 53 years old. as a child, KZbin hasn't been invented. but I remember clearly that I do the Peanut Butter and Mayo sandwich often. I really love the combination a lot. My two siblings thought I was weird and abnormal for doing it. But I don't care because I love them. Then I tried the Peanut butter and Sandwich Spread and loved it as well. Sandwich spread is like a combination of Mayo and Pickle Relish. Worked really well with Peanut Butter. :)

Any kind of unsweetened nut butters go really, really well with savory, sour, or spicy foods. Sweetened works too, but it’s not as versatile. Peanut butter has got to be one of the easiest foods to combine with other foods. There are hardly any flavors that it clashes with, unless of course you hate peanut butter itself. I’m a big fan of combining pb, lemon, soy sauce, and fresh basil as a sauce for all kinds of savory foods. It’s amazing.

Peanut butter sandwiches were a common lunch when I was a school boy in the 60's . In our household, we used Miracle Whip instead of mayo. When I got a bit older, I tried pickles and it became a favorite. I also like peanut butter, bacon and jalapeno sandwiches. This is reminding me of when I was a kid. My mom would make peanut butter grilled cheese. A thin layer of pb works. I remember not being able to taste the peanut butter and it just adding to creaminess of the cheese. We used butter on both sides of each slice of bread. Mom's go to quick dinner, though, was Velveeta shells mac and cheese, canned tuna, and peas. It was my favorite thing to eat as a little kid. I went into foster care as a younger teen but now that I'm 18, mom and I rebuilt our relationship so she makes this for me whenever I visit her from college.

As I was watching this, I was thinking that it might be really good with the onions sauteed. I had eaten peanut butter and pickle sandwiches before (and liked them a lot). But I had the idea to experiment a bit. Grilled the bread (thinking like a grilled cheese sandwich), sauteed some RED onions, because I like them a bit more than just white ones, then spread the peanut butter on the bread and alternated layers of sliced dill pickle (home made) with the carmelized / sauteed onions. Freaking awesome, in my opinion.

Toasted bread spread with peanut butter then take an egg, any way you like as long as you leave the yoke runny. fry it, soft boil it, poach it whatever. I love how she looked at the onion & peanut butter sandwich like 7 times when she took her first bite. As if I’m disbelief that it tastes decent 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

Olson's Law states that if you mix any two foods together, it will taste at least as good as the worst of the two. (This is assuming that the two foods don't interact with each other poorly. For instance, lemonade and milk don't work because the milk will curdle.) By trying to mix foods, I found out that pizza and hot fudge go surprisingly well together. I'm going to try these sandwiches.

I didn't know that what I've been eating is from the Depression! I love my Jiff, Miracle Whip and pickles. I'm going to have to add some onion to the next one. Sounds great!

I feel like I can understand how peanut butter and mayo came about, but I'll give that one a pass. The other two, thinking about it from the perspective of Thai food, I can certainly understand how they could be good. Possibly even better: peanut butter and fried onions. I bet that'd be awesome.

Your expression upon tasting the last sandwich was priceless. It didn’t appear that you liked it until you said so. You are adorable.

I've actually tried the peanut butter and pickles but on toast which i think is much better. I also heard they did relish in the Great Depression and since I'm in a great depression wouldn't hurt to try the others. Lol kidding but another great video!

My great grandma had six kids during the depression and used to make tomato soup (made with milk, not water) with a spoonful of peanut butter, and would melt it in. It has been passed down to everyone in the family, and now my husband and many of our friends won't eat tomato soup without peanut butter! It's delicious!

~ Peanut butter & Mayo have been a favorite of mine for as long as I can remember 😋😍 During all four of my pregnancies, I had to have PB on almost everything: deli meat sandwiches, pizza, I dipped chicken in PB, I’d spread it on steak, warm it a bit and mix it in my cottage cheese, spread it on the bread of my tuna sandwiches, I even craved a hotdog once and had it with PB, sauerkraut, mayo, ketchup, mustard and relish. 😍😋 🌭 however, after giving birth (each time), my craving for PB would always go away 🤷🏻‍♀️ I’ve been plant-based for just over a year. It seems to have triggered a whole new love for PB all over again 🥜😍 I love peanut butter mixed with/added to a wide variety of foods. • Burritos: peanut butter, hummus, pickles, olives, sun-dried tomatoes, sauerkraut, black beans, sprouts, onions, salsa, spinach, lime juice, hot sauce • Sandwiches: PB, pickles, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, lettuce/spinach,mayo (dairy-free), smoked paprika, black pepper • Nori Rolls: PB, rice, cucumber, avocado, onions (dipping sauce: coconut aminos, wasabi, PB) • Chick Pea Salad: PB, chick peas, pickles, sun-dried tomatoes, celery, onions, garlic, lemon juice, hemp seeds, bell peppers, pickle juice • PB as a dip for pickles • PB & pasta with marinara sauce 😍😋😛 Blessings ~

I've had that once, with some Parmesan cheese shreds on it as well. It wasn't that bad, but there were a bit too many flavors at once. But when there's nothing left in the fridge, well you just gotta' make do with what you've got.

My mom and Clara , the lady who had a depression era food channel, were not only the same age but their birthdays were less than 1 weeks apart. When I was a little girl my mom would make me and her lunch while the rest of my siblings were in school, and I’d watch soap operas with her. One of the many sandwiches she made was peanut butter mayo and onions. It was unusual but it didn’t taste so bad. I never made it again but now I know where that recipe came from.

Hi Emmy, here in my country we mix mayo and banana ketchup and use it as a dip for mozzarella sticks or cheese-filled fried lumpia. I highly recommend it.
