Deputies say gangs exist within Los Angeles Sheriff's Department

The Sheriff already made a statement about the gangs and have acknowledged their existence. Deputy gangs have existed for a long time in the LASD, but everyone was too focused on the LAPD corruption since the 1992 riots and 1997 Rampart scandal that they simply overlooked the corruption in the LASD. Former Sheriff and Undersheriff Lee Baca and Paul Tanaka were arrested for their involvement in deputy gangs years ago. This isn't news.

I’ve never seen Gangs in the military but I’ve noticed the strong gang mentality in certain areas. You’d even see some beef between certain higher ups and units and it’s like wtf is war when we have enemies here in America. The movies make things look cool but personally I think there is alot of tension and dysfunctional things going on in the military that’s just being tossed aside as just something you “signed up for” or the simple “do your job” “suk it up or tough it out” type things. Growing up in Los Angeles I’ve seen in a two different occasions, deputies taking small amounts of drugs from people during traffic stops. Both times there was traffic citations issued and left to be on our way with no documentation for the confiscation of illegal drugs. I’ve also known of several occasions when parolees have had deputies plant these same kind of drugs on there person or vehicles. The same can be done with firearms acquired through confidential informants under threat of incarceration or for profit.

I think we just need harder hiring policies. 1 all law enforcement should be required to at least hills a bachelor's degree in some sort of discipline centered around criminal justice, sociology, psychology, human or social services etc. 2nd they should be required to have lived in the community they plan to patrol for a minimum of 5 years and 3rd the age limit should be moved to 25 before applying. In my line of work, I've watch on numerous occasions how they and the lapd treat Black and Brown men. I live in lapd jurisdiction but I work in sheriffs jurisdiction and from my work truck, I've witnessed how sheriffs abuse their power. There's one instance where a young Black man was just walking. A sheriffs vehicle pulled up, the deputies jump out, bump him up (stop him), search him, empty his pockets, place everything on their hood, cuff him and put him in the back seat. *Now THIS was the kicker:* As deputy one is in the front seat running his name, the other casually takes the mans phone, nonchalantly walks behind a nearby bush and proceeds to make a phone call...ON THE MANS PHONE ! As he's talking to whoever he called, he starts writing in a little note pad. It took at _least_ 3 minutes. When he was done, he just again nonchalantly walks back to the vehicle and places the phone on the hood with the rest of the mans belongings...like this is regular. After about 15 minutes or so, he must've been clean because they eventually release him. _Fast forward three hours later:_ I see the man at a nearby store. I'm on break, so I call him over to my truck. I ask him about his earlier encounter. Then I tell him I was watching the whole thing and for him to check his call log because I saw one make a call from his phone. He did and he said that it was to "911" ! What that meant, we couldn't figure out but he said that he was going to change his number. I hope that he did...

I got shot by a off duty deputy in Wayne County Michigan for no reason he shot me in my face & arm several times he told me & my ex before he was joining road patrol school but he had also said usually the guys on the road have been with the sheriff department for 15+ years. So it was probably his initiation. It made the news but they never disclosed he was an officer so it’s been a big cover up it happened 12/15/2019 & I’m still fighting for justice.
