Ep10: Fireplace cleanup / Fixing Up A Dilapidated Victorian Terrace House.

This week the plasterers have taken over the upstairs forcing me to push some of the decorating on downstairs. Including A PVC glazed door refurb and the original fireplace restoration. With plenty of painting also.

Do all the necessary things to move in and then once you do, you can take care of the other stuff on your timeline. And it's wonderful what some paint can do to improve a room.

If I didn’t have a 2 year old I would be living there already. Get dusty jobs out the way and some floors down and we will be good to go.

Try polishing the slate hearth stone with a polishing compound and a buffer attached to your drill! Good luck. Nice hearth!

Keeping what we can. Glad some of the original features were left behind. It’s not going to be 100% in keeping with the time period. Hopefully we will get the balance of new and old right.

We are year 5 in to renovation of our 1920’s house & every room is going back to brick, ceilings down the lot so I can relate to cost savings & broken backs! Money saving tip, sand & varnish the floors, saves a fortune.

Year 5. Wow. I’m not going to lie. I was blinded by the potential. I failed to see how much more work it would be compared to the other property we tried to buy. I was going to put engineered hardwood down. Helps with drafts and spiders 😂. But going with clearance laminate due to funds. Hope I don’t regret it.

Thankfully we have the original parquet all downstairs which I’ve re-sanded & I’ve done the floorboards upstairs, really warm as we’ve put a log burner in the living room & dining room & we get free logs👌 I’m assuming you’ve set up a trade account somewhere so you get discounts on materials?

Whilst I destest the painting of anything wood...originally a lot of these gorgeous fireplaces would have had a surround made of slate like the hearth, so to paint them black is pretty much in keeping. Nice job

Oh man...I got nicotine poisoning once cleaning a smoky house without gloves. Was soooooo sick. Glad you didn't get sick! It's looking so good! Paint on the walls, yes! And that fireplace is gorgeous!!
