What a good touch of ball in Dedby, specially Hector. Great midfield man.

Is Francis Lee, Archie Gemmill and Kevin Hector the shortest wall in history?

Derby were reigning champions from the previous season. Wolves were about to be relegated. These teams of this era wouldn't survive in League 1 today let alone the Championship. Times really have moved on as have the performance enhancing drugs of course.

@@myroseaccount yeah but look at the kick on Archie Gemmill at 3:08. Yer Premiere League midfielders would be writhing round in agony for 5 minutes now! Archie just got up and got on with it. You call that progress?
@myroseaccount4 жыл бұрын
@@SteveInskip No I'd call it a matter of fact that most of these players today would be playing in the Championship or League 1. One good thing is the only performance enhancing drugs they took was 10 Woodbines and a Pint of Double Diamond

@@myroseaccount I used to see the Derby guys sometimes in the snooker hall after training. Difficult to compare different era's anyway. You've got to try to be the best where you are!

@@myroseaccount I'd imagine they'd mostly take to modern training methods and so on and hold their own in the PL. And what performance enhancing drugs are you saying they're all taking?

What happened to Derby’s pitch to transform it from that surface into the quagmire it became a couple of years later?
@craiggerrard51173 жыл бұрын
Not even a couple of years later. By the end of 1975 it had achieved its legendary status. Rumour was that it was deliberately watered and ploughed up to put away teams off. Not sure if this is true. It sounds unlikely because it wouldn't have done the Derby players stamina any good having to play on that pitch every other week.

Actually, it had also been extremely bad in the previous season. Check out some of the videos on YT, Derby v Stoke for instance. It had the summer to dry,out a bit to what we see here.

My memory is that the whole pitch was completely relayed for 75/76 onto thousands of tons of sand. It was much better than the previous mudheap but the goal areas became like golf bunkers by Xmas to cause trouble for goalies ............@@craiggerrard5117
