Bonjour dereck, je suis français est je suis tombé par hasard sur ta vidéo sur Mylène farmer, qui est ma chanteuse préféré. Tu n'imagine pas à quel point ça me fait plaisir . It was the end of the concert. I remember it being so emotional when everyone was walking out of the venue. Not just because of the spectacle, but we all knew it was going to be years before we would be able to see her live again. And just like you said in the video: you wanted to see it again, to see HER again. This concert was performed in one venue in Paris throughout the month of January 2006, because it was impossible to tour with the show (the water) but also the use of two stages (the main stage and a crucifix-shaped stage in the middle of the venue. A bridge would come down from the ceiling to connect the stages. At the beginning of the show Mylene was lowered from the ceiling onto the crucifix stage in a glass coffin. Her imagery is always impressive. You should see the opening of her Mylenium tour from 1999/2000 where she appears levitating from the head of a large statue. Her music videos are major productions, like short movies. Many of them even have end credits. Among the most impressive/iconic are "Libertine", "Je t'aime mélancolie", "Désenchantée", "L'ame-stram-gram", the list in endless. It's interesting that you picked up on her lower register as she is often cited for her high vocals. If you want to hear an interesting vocal match you should check out her duet with Seal called "Les Mots" which is breathtakingly beautiful. In terms of songs/videos I also recommend "XXL" from 1995 (her guitar-heavy "grunge" period), the RedOne produced "Oui... Mais non" from 2010 and "City of Love" from 2016. Welcome down yet another major rabbit hole!

I've travelled to France to see her concerts in 2006 (Avant que l'ombre), 2011 (Stade de France), 2013 (Timeless) and in 2019 à la Défense ... and made sure to go at least two nights for each concert because you just can't take it all in on one viewing, especially because of the emotions seeing her the first night. As others have suggested, please do additional reaction videos to some of her other concerts, especially the intros and outros Vous nous manquez, Mylène !!

I'm french. I was born in late 1999 and while growing up I always heard her hit songs from the 80s-90s on the radio. She was obviously the biggest pop french artist in our country. She could sing extremely controversial or adult lyrics and still be on the radio 24h/24 because of how incredibly good and timeless her music is. Her music always stood out to me even though I was a little child, but it's not like I was a fan either. It's only at around the age of 17 that I rediscovered Mylène Farmer. Suddenly I was obsessed. All of the songs I had heard hundreds of times in my life suddenly felt so deep and amazing. I was very interested in music and I noticed how great the production was. I was stunned. Laurent Boutonnat was her producer and he's a big contributor to the universe of Mylène Farmer. I listened to her albums and I loved them. Her music videos can't be described with words they're just so amazing. One of her hit song in particular made me feel such intense and deep emotions that I didn't even know it was possible to feel such a deepness inside of myself, it's like I had the universe inside of my heart. The power of her music is simply immensely huge. I realized how lucky I was to be french, and to have Mylène Farmer as part of my culture and to be able to understand her songs, because her music is simply not translatable. Everyone knows her songs but not everyone realize how deep they are, especially the younger ones. It makes me very sad to see that my generation gives so much attention to bad music but nothing to Mylène Farmer. It makes me sick. It makes me sad also that she's not known in the world, when her music is one of the best music I ever heard if not the best. So thank you for giving attention to her music and art.

Hi Derek! In Russia, Mylene is also very popular! You should watch the beginning of the Mylenium tour. Stade de Frans is a very large-scale show! Timeless 2013 space show in the literal sense! And Live 2019 very ambiguously ends with the song L'horloge, given that 30 years ago with this song began its first show! Madame knows how to interest, and most importantly intrigue! Thank you for the reviews!)))

She's a legend, she's a songwriter, producer, choreographer, painter...her lyrics are full of references and double meanings...the singer of all records in french speaking countries AND the water curtain is real, she was the first artist to use it in a show, the intro and outro of this show are just mind blowing and always with a meaning, not like other singers just putting different elements together for the show, here there's a story a meaning ;) to understand this outro you need to watch the intro: she's dead lying in a coffin, she lands on the stage and then she relives...the outro means that she's back to her hell, to death...

Make sure to read traslations to her songs too. She has the most unbelievable lyrics ever! More like poetry than pop songs. If you liked this performance so much, you should watch one of Mylene's concerts, at least the concert that you just watched the end of. You will not see such sincerity in the songs, in their performance, in anyone else. Even Madonna has never had such high-quality concerts. Perhaps you should know that after this concert(one of her best), Mylene cried for several hours and didn't talk to anyone. Here we can already say How Mylene sincerely behaves on stage, she does not hide her emotions. You can even say that she fully reveals her soul in her songs ( after all, she writes the lyrics and some music herself), which is why you were so impressed with this performance.... And thank you very much for this review)

Sadly, she's only known in Europe and Russia to the public. She did some duets with pretty well known artists though: Sting, LP and Seal from the top of my head. She tried to make a career in the US but it didn't take.... :( She lives in the USA (don't remember the state) for her privacy for a long time (she moved from France because a crazy fan did some shit that scared her). She does 1 interview every few years and is completely out of gossip magazines, so the fans only have news from her when one of her albums come out and the fans only see her during concerts (once every few years, one time we had to wait 6 years between concerts/albums). So yeah, that's why her opening and closing numbers at her concerts are so huge and why so many fans cry and scream... :P The "it looks like a goodbye" that you said at 13:00 made me smile bittersweetly: Mylène herself said in different interviews that she never knows if she'll do a next concert; so each of her concerts may be the last one for all the fans know... Mylène always performed very spectacular and emotional shows, it's part of her identity! Her 2019 tour had a spectacular yet quite sober closing, with the song "L'Horloge". "Ainsi Soit Je" is also the most emotional song she performs at almost every concert- and it's always a remarkable, mind-blowing performance. She truly is the best French singer

Hi, I'm french. I confirm that Mylene is a huge artist in France. The text are beautiful inspired by poet Beaudelaire and more.

I've wanted someone to check her out being such a huge star largely with a career that rivals Madonna in the non-anglo world. I've introduced so many friends to her. You don't know how much it means to us life long fans see an anglophone discover her for the first time and take a look at the meaning as well I saw her in Paris. The tickets had been sold out for a year and my friend in Belgium had one for me so I flew from Canada just to see her. I was in tears. You must check out her amazing entrances. It was an experience of a lifetime. I would have gone to see her at La Défense but the tickets sold out so quick it was impossible.

I know this is a bit late.. Her songs are insanely hard to translate due to her taking inspiration from poems.. but that also means they are always beautiful. Beautiful but sad or beautiful but with topics most don’t speak about. More info about 2006/Avant que l’ombre à Bercy: it was a live residency with 13 concerts due to the stage being so complex, the stage budget was 20 million €!! I appreciate the fact that she has such expensive shows that make the 200€+ tickets so worth it! She could have much less complex stages and still the same ticket price, yet that isn’t the case. The water curtains were falling from the front during all of the song & they even caused floods. The 2006 concerts in general was very technically advanced compared to other concerts you may see during the time. Fun facts: the tickets for this were all sold out the year before! All her concerts are on dvd/blu-ray & her recent (2019) even with 4k quality. She doesn’t tour much if you see that in 36 years of career she has only done 7 concerts/tours BUT whenever there was a concert, it was MEGA. I’d say she’s very different from most artists.. she has no social media, no website. It’s sad at times, there are lots of black gaps. But I think that’s how it should be. That makes her more of an artist and less of a social media influencer. Not much is even known about her private life, she hasn’t even confirmed being in a relationship! She gives little interviews, with requirements. Again, a very different and interesting artist in my opinion...

Thanks for reacting to our queen! She's a goddess in France, this is the end song of her concert "Avant que l'ombre". People love her or hate her, but she leaves no one indifferent. She's super shy and secluded, and gives everything on stage. She recorded with Seal and Moby, and her fans have been following her for decades. And yes, she speaks to Jesus about her fears. Love your reaction!

I'm french, she's my favorite singer since 25 years. She's really secret and unique, not a "star system" woman. There are documentaries about her work : she creates the costumes, the scene, the visuals, she draws, she's very cultivate, romantic, and a bit gothic. She talks about sex a lot, like sodomy in "Pourvu qu'elles soient douces"

Beautiful and amazing scenery, very mystical ... the song is about the moment before death, preparing herself to meet God and addressing to Jesus Lord, remembering her past, loves and finally climbing the stairs to meet her creator with humility, naked like the first moment of her life and passing on other side ...

Mylene Farmer is a big star in France and in Russia. Her concerts are always very visual, her videos 20 years ago are real storytelling . The most famous song is désenchantée.

Very nice reaction, thanks! She is huge in France and some other countries in Europe and in Russia. She scarcely give interviews, but when she goes on tour, she sells out very quickly (she sold an entire stadium of 80 000 seats in 2 hours, and the next date in 1h...). She has very emotional lyrics with a lot of hidden meanings. A good reason for you to learn some french 😅. Can't wait for another reaction to her music and videos. You should react to Sans Contrefacon video, which is one of the best she made. But you have so many things to watch from her 😄.

Thank you very much for your reaction, man! You are right : she’s mystical. It’s great you felt that without understanding the lyrics. That proves she knows how to express her emotions through her body and music. I wish you to hear more of her performances, you’d be stunned! I’m in love with her music since the very first time I heard « Maman a tort ». Dear, she is a goddess. She doesn’t want to hear it though...
