It always amazes me to think how liberal and free we were back then in France. We were sooo comfortable with everything, that was an incredible time to be alive. I was very young but I still remember, as it was mentioned numerous time, that this clip was shown on French TV in absolute broad daylight for everyone to see, from 0 to 100 y o, and nobody found this shocking How crazy was that?! finally !!! We Germans generally do not speak a lot of French and even though I was, i was not understanding all the references... still it was a Top 10 Hit in Germany. So the song stood for itself and the video was captivating and not banned in Germany. So it's combination of it all - and it was way before Madonna or anyone else picked up that style and black and white etc... I think at the time of the video she was already 40 and I don't remember a follow up... a true one hit wonder. Her surname is pronounced Pa (like spanish "a") -tee, .

Hi Dereck! Thanks for reviewing this gem by Gesh Patty! To complete your comments about the song, you seem to suggest that Etienne translates to Steven in English and has some sort of a sexual meaning (if I got it right). Well, Etienne has not any sexual meaning in French, it's just a common name. However, when she says "pas de limite au goût de l'after beat", you have to know that the slang word for a dick in French sounds exactly like the word "beat" (but spells b-i-t-e), so she plays on the sound there to spice up the lyrics ;) So not only she wants it bad, but she wants a taste of it too! LOL May I suggest you have a look at another good French singer called Claire Diterzi and her song "L'Odalisque" which is so good! kzbin.info/www/bejne/sGrCYoJ3f9eqoKs
@Ryukei663 жыл бұрын
Yes, very good comment! "Etienne" also sounds similar to "Tiens le bien", it's a play on sounds, Etienne, hold it tight!! In the whole song, there are a lot of play of the repetition of sounds (alliteration). A little help on the lyrics: First verse translates better to "I lift the forbidden" instead of "I raise the forbidden". No more censor, no more taboos' For the cat that the guys brings to the other man to caress.. We have the same meaning in French, with cat/pussy connotation it could be the meaning of that. It's not "remains lengthen", but the direct meaning is she orders him to "stay down" (laying on a bed) - but it can be understood also as "keep it up" (the dingling) but that's a little far fetch I think. Then basically, they've done it, enjoying the aftermath of the intercourse, the feeling of numbness, pleasure but she's still hungry for more! And yes, like many commented, I was hooked by the song when I was kid singing it out loud without understanding what the words were really about :)

You react still to 3 of them: Desireless - Voyage voyage, France Gall - Ella ella, Guesch Pattie - Etienne and the 4th was Vanessa Paradis - Jo Le Taxi (yes, the ex-wife of Johnny Depp, she sang that song when she was 15, also a small scandal). The video of Guesch Patti wasnt banned in Germany. I know it from the afternoon music shows in public tv. Guesch Patti was the most avantgarde-ish charts singer from France in that time.
