Nobody else sounds like Jim McCarty. He has his own definitive sound.

There aren't to many blues rock guitarists around anymore these days. But if you were looking to hear two of the remaining legends of that genre, you would find them here on stage at the Token Lounge. Derek has an amazing sound, and Jim..... What can you say? He is one or the best from the 60's- 70's era to come down the pike. Underrated an mostly overlooked he nevertheless stands out as one of the best guitarists on the planet for blues rock. DO NOT sell him short ! This guy can play. And with Derek you get that incredible one two punch that Duane Allman and Dickey Betts would provide. Really good stuff !!!

Outside of being a local legend in Detroit, I agree that Jim McCarty is largely overlooked by rock/blues music fans elsewhere. But I think there are quite a few guitarists out there in the music world that hold him in very high regard, but you just don't hear much about it. Jim doesn't seem like the type who really cares about that though.

@@SilverStallionVideos I agree. If you've heard him, you know. If you haven't, it's your loss. The first time I ever knowingly heard Jim was in 1971 when I bought the first Cactus album. The album was OK, but I was enthralled with the guitar work on No Need To Worry. I wanted to hear more of this guy Jim McCarty. But there was nothing. I recall thinking, how could such an Incredible guitarist just vanish from the music scene? Years latter I discovered that he was the guitarist on Mitch Ryders Devil in a Blue Dress. So, where did he go? Where is he now? Enter the internet circa 2015. On a whim, I looked him up. And to my surprise and great pleasure I found a wealth of information on him, and even better a ton of him playing. It may have taken 45 years, but at least I got to know and hear this great guitarist that as a 17 year old I knew and recognized as one of the best.

Detroit legend's Jimmy just sold the '64 Fender twin reverb he's using here to Nugent the amp he used to record Jenny take a ride and Devil with a blue dress. ✌🏽

I'll bet a lot of people don't realize Derek St. Holmes did most of the vocals for Ted Nugent's biggest hits.

Jimmy is ~74 here. How's he look so young given his history of substances and such? Not even fully gray yet! But then my recently deceased mother, had hardly any gray on her deathbed at age 85. So it's possible, I 'spose.

Derek is quite the guitarist as well. He's definitely an understudy of BB King, lot of his licks here.

I like how the sound engineer EQed the kick drum mic for a metal band, WTF? Really ruined it.
