What a beautiful, textbook example of how to build and execute a great guitar solo. Wow. Never heard Jim play that type of tasteful and melodic clean stuff before, like in the first half here --- so original but still appropriate for blues...then, classic aggressive tone McCarty, with such relaxed, thoughtful command of feeling and dynamics. Absolutely top shelf! Thanks for posting it.

Jimmy is one of the all time greats. He has his own distinctive sound and is as effective at a whisper as he is balls to the wall.

Say what you will, but for me, Jim McCarty IS the best American blues guitarist to come out of the 60's era and still holds that title. Better than Hendrix, Duane Allman, Joe Bonamassa, Joe Walsh and he may play a tad slower than SRV, but he is the equal or better in style and ability. He certainly can give the British Blues invasion greats a run for their money also. Guys like Gilmour, Page, Gallagher, Clapton and even the extremely talented and complicated styles of Jeff Beck. The only British Blues guitarist that may hold a candle to him was the, in his prime, Peter Green. Overall, maybe not as versatile as Jim, but for passion, skill and emotive feeling he would be hard to beat, but before 1971 when his schizophrenia consumed him. But for me, I just love Jim McCarty's playing !!!

Bob, I agree with you on many of your observations, however I would have to add both DANNY WEIS (Iron Butterfly/Rhinoceros + many more), AND STEVE ("THE DEACON") HUNTER (Alice Cooper + many more) to the as good, or better than "list". And Jason Becker, never had chance to shine as he could've/should've. R&R!

wrong Jim McCarty LMBO. This is the Jim McCarty from Mitch Ryder and the Detroit Wheels. You have him mixed up with the drummer from the Yardbirds also named Jim McCarty

Isn't that Don Was playing bass? Both McCarty and Mitch Ryder are the most under appreciated artists at their respective positions then throw in the Detroit album (on Paramount records) heads should have rolled for it's lack of marketing. Straight from the source Lou Reed thought it was a genre defining album and he LOVED the version of rock n roll. Detroit should have been a multiplatinum monster instead of a footnote.

Lisa Stone All the musicians on stage are from Detroit, Michigan. And for the record, this Jim McCarty's first instrument was the drums. His father was a drummer.
@peach4954 жыл бұрын
@@dandevins3 You're mistaken. You're thinking of Jim McCarty the drummer of the Yardbirds. They're not related. Also, this Jim McCarty has a son that is a drummer & plays in his band the Mystery Train.
@peteloomis84564 жыл бұрын
@@peach495 Nope he was just on Ted Nugent's Spirit campfire & Jim said his first instrument he learned to play was the drums but switched to the electric guitar . I am sure he taught some of what he knew about playing the drums to his son .
