DR does a lot more than “go into churches” to talk about money. He’s wildly successful with hundreds of employees and selling out shows all over the place. His money teachings are common sense but he delivers it in a way people can comprehend and apply to their own lives. I wouldn’t say he’s “controversial” really. He’s had a few bad stories in his brand but overall they do a great job. I would guess that Derrick and Jill were already fans of the DR show before they got married. I don’t think this is a brag at all. I think he’s trying to seek guidance and do the right thing.

I too listened to Dave Ramsey. There is nothing wrong with working towards being debt free, having six months worth of an emergency fund in savings, and paying cash instead of using a credit card. We had a 15 year mortgage and we doubled the payments and sometimes tripled the payment and we paid it off in 6 years. We didn't use all of Mr. Ramsey's methods, but we chose what we knew would work for us. It was just good financial advice that made sense to us at that time in our life.

I don't follow Dave Ramsey, but I got my first "real" corporate job in 1987. I was fortunate that part of my job was to review 401k hardship withdrawal applications. I saw first hand, and in great detail, how people can wreck their lives by over extending themselves and living above their means. I resolved then and there to never have credit card debt and to learn to do without what I couldn't afford. Ten years later, I purchased my home. I did need a mortgage, but that was the only debt I had. (I buy used cars with cash and drive them into the ground.) Being intentional about staying out of debt and saving money is a very good thing. Now at 60 I can work part-time and look forward to retirement in 4.5 years.

What's so wrong about being "debt free"? Being debt free has its advantages. I don't get why you're being so snarky Katie, really, if you think having some debt is good, then good for you. Let those who want to be debt free, live debt free. There are very few times having debt is "productive" and those are: higher education and owning a house. But if you can do all of that without incurring debt, what's the big deal? I think Derrick is walking on ice here a bit, but if he's confident doing it then good on him.

I was thinking Jill's book was doing well. I'm very glad to hear that it is. 😇 Yes, Dave Ramsey is a guru in Christian circles. Not just the IBLP, either. I don't know anything about timeshare exits but Dave Ramsey actually does give very good advice. One main thing he teaches is that it's best not to put _anything_ on credit if you can help it. He doesn't only get people out of debt, he keeps people from getting into debt in the first place. I'm not sure focusing on the fact that some people are suing him is the biggest news about him. He's good at what he teaches and he teaches sound principles and has been teaching these things for _decades._ Saying that, I'm glad Derick and Jill are out of debt. That's good and I'm glad Jill's book is doing well. Jill has name recognition though. She can write a book and get the attention she needs to sell it. The rest of us do not have that luxury.

Speaking about money is important. We need to know what each other are making so we can tell if it’s fair. This is why it’s a legally protected right in every state to discuss your salary with co-workers. The people who used to say it was rude were the corporations that wanted to discourage this wage transparency from happening.

Good for them. We should all live this way. Wow!! Yeah but they've had to learn to be transparent about their lives. I was involved in exposing my SF in a legal SA case and after disclosing that stuff in court and letting the secrets out I just don't care. I'm totally free with the details of my life. It's weird I can't describe. There's nothing I hold back in. Granted I'm not a public figure.

Can't help but think he was sharing that much financial info on that platform to say...see we are still receiving God's favor. The duggars promote that concept of doing wrong and losing God's favor. So it is a huge statement to her family that what she is doing is not evil or wrong, but blessed and highly favored.

Hi Friends, Reporting on Dave Ramsey’s controversies isn’t “attacking” someone. These are reported and factual lawsuits. I will always use my platform to reveal the full details. If you wish to remain ignorant to the lawsuits or controversy, I can’t help you. The lawsuit is a fact and has been reported widely. Dave Ramsey is also widely criticized by actual licensed financial advisers. Dave Ramsey is NOT licensed nor qualified to give any financial advice to anyone. This is part of the reason he’s being sued! He promoted a get rich quick product to his audience, they invested and lost tons of money on a fraudulent product. Having debt is not bad. In fact, some level of debt is totally normal and helpful! Most financial advisors will tell you that a mortgage is a totally acceptable form of debt. Car loans are also an acceptable form of debt. Here are links to the lawsuit: www.cbsnews.com/amp/news/dave-ramsey-getting-sued-150-million-lawsuit-timeshare-exit/ Cult like environment: www.nashvillescene.com/news/pithinthewind/former-dave-ramsey-employee-alleges-cult-like-environment-in-lawsuit/article_67194cd8-9300-5f8e-8538-fb64ca8d6b4d.html There is audio of him berating his staff and demanding that they adhere to his Biblical Principles. He fired a woman for having premarital sex and becoming pregnant. Everything he stands for is what I expose on this channel. A male employee, one of his stars, cheated on his wife, and he was not fired, not ridiculed or disparaged to the staff. In fact, Dave praised him in audio recordings. Any person claiming to have the “right principles” or the “truth” is a charlatan. I don’t support anyone posing as a financial advisor when they aren’t licensed. That’s it, that’s all. That does make him a quasi financial advisor. Thanks! Katie

I agree. As per Derricks comment, maybe this will hit the rest of the kids right between the eyes & make them realize they don’t have to be tied to “daddy” through lies , ultimatums & deceit. The plus side? This should make ole daddy dugger turn green because J & D don’t need his money!

Unfortunately, it's not just about the financial ties, it's also about social ties. They don't have many connections to the outside world, their community is all they've ever known. They're psychologically dependent, and some enjoy being "popular" within their religious community. They're not giving up all their family, all their friends, their church, to become shunned plus lose out on inheritance. That's their reality, it motivates them to stay and stay silent.

Dave Ramsey is actually VERY ASTUTE in his financial thinking. But he doesn’t only go to churches and give his advice - he’s filled up the Verizon Wireless Theater in Houston (about 40 miles south of where I live), so he’s very well regarded in BOTH Christian communities as well as the secular community. And hey, there’s A LOT to be said for not having debt… one of the primary reasons that I’m still single is because I own my home, and both it and my vehicle are completely paid off, and I’m not even remotely interested in becoming involved with a dude who can’t handle his finances with decent stewardship. Call me crazy, but no thanks lol.

Way to go Derrick. Stick it to him good. I believe now that Derrick is an attorney, they will have a good life. Their children will all be able to go to college. It’s interesting that JimBob was the one who introduced Derrick to Jill. I think JimBob wins the booby prize for that move. Lol 😂

If JimBob does use the call as evidence Jill & Derek wrote the book for money, the message they CAN make it on their own remains. Maybe Derek saw his call from a win/won viewpoint 🤷🏼‍♀️ Either way, I’m all for Jill & Derek’s bravery in breaking away 💯

So happy for Derick and Jill and that they don’t need Jim Bobs money and they are doing great!! Jim Bob isn’t one to talk- the only reason the big house was completed was due to the Discovery/TLC channel paying for it to be completed.

This has got to hurt Jim Bob. Right in the wallet. I'm sure he was telling himself when they left the church that they would to have to struggle to live. They might be better off money wise than Jim Bob😂😂😂

I think Jim Bob is just vindictive enough to try to get his slimy hands on some of that money. But good for Derrick letting him know they are doing just fine without his help. True freedom.

so we were dave ramsey fans until we had an issue. went to rent a car and the company said we could use a debit card, but when we got there, they changed the rate of the car AND wanted to put a hold on money in our account. There was no enterprise rental where we were, so that one was out. We were either stuck paying close to double plus having a hold put on our account and trusting that they would remove it later. So I told my friend about our problem and she told me to check myself, that I was lying. That's the kind of people that follow dave ramsey. Dave says you can rent a car so therefore you CAN, even though my experience was that it wasnt something that a normal person could do. I wasn't going to pay $600 for a car rental and have other money "held" in my account and I also wasn't going to be called a liar for telling my story. I cant stand dave people now.

I get COMPLETELY why derick called in- as someone who wanted to live debt free for a while. While Dave Ramsey is not for everyone- he has helped many people live debt free

There is absolutely nothing wrong with being proud of yourself on an achievement like a New York times best seller. Is quite an achievement. I don't think any religion should make you feel bad about achieving an important goal. If they won a gold medal in the Olympics are they expected to hide it away?
