I know there are a lot of Christian’s who are upset, and they think their faith is being attacked, as a Catholic Christian who was raised in an evangelical, non denominational church, and experienced CSA from a man in my church who’s past was hidden by the pastor of the church, I, and so many others, need you all to understand, this is not about attacking the faith of Christianity, this is about exposing the wolves, the false prophets, who twist pieces and parts of the the Bible to manipulate, control, and ab*se people. That church when I was small put me, and my family through h*ll, and the ramifications of what we experienced still permeate our life over 25 years later. The same way the leaders in the Catholic Church need to be held accountable for their crimes, and things in the church need to change, is the same thing that needs to happen in the evangelical church. If we are truly Christian, regardless of denomination, we have got to expose evil wherever it has infiltrated our churches, and cast it out, not take offense, and suppress it because we are afraid of facing the reality.

@@hoolydooly5799- I was raised a JW ( Jehovah’s Witness). I left the cult for many reasons & one being their 2 witness rule. They believe that in order to turn a pedophile ( or any abuser) into authorities there must be 2 witnesses who observe the crime occurring. If there isn’t 2 witnesses, then it goes unreported & is just swept under the rug & the victims never get justice, plus the abuse continues. The elders tell you that you can report it yourself.. but we all know in reality if you do that, they consider it bringing reproach on Jehovah’s name & there would be consequences for that. They have many lawsuits being brought against them now & hopefully justice will come for the many victims!! Us Ex’s are now EXPOSING the evils of the JW’s organization.. finally!! 👏🏼

I have been shocked by the information I have learned. As a retired teacher, I am saddened by the lack of education these kids have had, and that the state let this happen. Where were the social workers? People who are put in place to look after kids in our country. My grandchildren are home schooled, and there is a lot of paper work and testing that has to be done to make certain they are being properly educated. I also feel that TLC should take some responsibility for the long hours of filming the kids took part in, and that the children weren't represented in the contracts signed by JB. I am sickened by his behavior and lack of integrity when it comes to being a father, literally becoming wealthy on the backs of his kids. I can't wait for the truth to come out and these people are exposed.

I agree with your statement regarding TLC. They acted the same way with Kate Gosselin and her children and we are only just beginning to see how royally she messed up her kids. TLC knew that she was verbally, physically and emotionally abusing her kids and they just sat back and did nothing except rake in money. They did the same with the Duggars. TLC/Discovery is a corrupt company who profits off of the suffering of others.

I was a girl ,so education was un necessary. I have tried, throughout my life to get my GED, but due to early abuse, I have a learning disability, especially in math. I just watched the Hillsong doc yesterday and they had a similar correlation in it -- Pastors that obsess with preaching on purity but then behind the scenes are sleeping around/cheating on their wives. They pointed out when someone obsesses about a topic like that, they're overcompensating for what their doing in secret. Seems to be what the IBLP is doing too

As a mother, who was a victim of sexual assault in my early 20's, and who was not able to report it because of the time in our history (1970's) when women were made to be to blame in any kind of courtroom situation, I just want to put my arms around these young women and hold them and let them cry and help them heal. I have a daughter who had a bad experience and I went to bat for her and I made sure that the father of the boy who assaulted her knew that I would NOT stand down. We need to raise our daughters to understand that they do NOT have to put up with inappropriate touching or suggestive language from any man. We also need to raise our sons (as I did) to respect women and treat them with respect. We need to make sure they know that because they are male, they are NOT entitled to do as they wish or say what they wish to ANY woman.

Abuse in church needs to continue to be exposed. It doesn’t matter what denomination it is; all abuse needs to be exposed. I’m a former student of IBLP. I’m a solid Christian. And the abuse I see (mostly in articles by Roys Report) in churches today is still being covered up, lied about, denied. And victims / survivors are often vilified, shunned, and worse. Abusers are often praised and seen as the victim. I still go to church because I find it an act of worship but my eyes are open and I call out any abuse I see.

Never had that surgery because like he said get panties with tummy control the boobs r ok and the flappy arms get tops with control where the arms r. And he was right…… he was 5’2” tall and bald and he said well I would love to be 6 ‘ and have a huge head of hair but I can’t so I accept and krista I found myself saying don’t change a thing I love you the way you r. Katie, I have to share with you that I worked as a conference host at the University of Tennessee for the summer of 2000. Every year, ATI would host their annual conference at UT Knoxville. As a conference host I worked as basically an RA (resident assistant) where we hosted families to stay in our student housing. I clearly remember meeting the Duggars, although they were not famous yet, they stood out by the sheer number of kids they had. Every family had a minimum of 6-8 kids, all dressed the same. I worked the front desk, answering questions, distributing campus maps, assisting with needs like bedding, towels, etc. If you ever wish to chat further, please reach out!

I went to a Bill Gothard conference at my church in Knoxville in the 1989. I remember wondering why this conference was so expensive for just a booklet and watching a video all week. I felt the Gothard umbrella of protection was just an excuse for husbands to rule over their family in a patriarchal way. I'm glad this video exposes the truth and thankful that some of the Dugger girls are sharing their story in love. Jesus is our only hope, and I pray that people will repent from legalism and find true freedom in a relationship with God thru Jesus. I hope you have been set free too and are following Jesus. OMG! Knoxville resident and UT grad here! I think what’s crazy is I was going to summer school and didn’t know these things were on campus and I lived in an apartment on Laurel Ave. and 17th street. Lived in this area 32 years and didn’t know anything until an ex-IBLP member said “there’s this conference at UT in Knoxville every year.” This is a conservative place and I was a freaking news reporter. Seriously? Are they under an invisibility tarp? But I saw a thing last summer about a woman talking about going to UT every summer and in her current career she went back for a work thing. And she said she walked into Thompson-Boling Arena and realized how far she had come. It makes me sad to think about that, because I think of that as a place where I go to basketball games, concerts, and where I graduated college and my stepsister graduated. It’s sad that there are women who will never know what it’s like to get s college degree or be at a university like that and attend college. But I know the university makes a pretty penny off those conferences. Sorry for the ramble.

I'm grateful that the victims of abuse are starting to be able to speak out, get help and heal. I was abused and SA'd, and it left lasting damage. My family didn't didn't want to hear about it. Throw religion on top of that culture of denial, and it can become 1000x more toxic. And to all the christians/evangelicals/homeschoolers feeling attacked - give your head a good hard shake and quit with the cries of persecution (you're the majority, you're not being persecuted). If hearing about this kind of abuse from people who have lived it is triggering you or making you feel attacked, maybe that's because you know that your belief system/practices play a part in or play into this kind of abuse, oppression and exclusion.

@WACB.....Katy, thank you for bringing this film to our attention! I applaud the victims for telling their stories, the film makers, & Jill Duggar. I saw "Shiny People too." Gothard has NEVER been married, nor had children! Why any parent would handover their daughters/(or sons), to someone like this is beyond me. It also ticks me off how people use God to insert their will onto others. I'm glad these cults & so-called families are being called out! Thank you once again, Katy.

Thanks for bringing this to us. As a avid watcher from Australia, it’s not as easy to find out about these groups, or about these projects. I grew up in a BIG catholic family, school church the whole package. I was lucky enough to have fabulous head priest and nuns. What first turned me away from organised religion was the hypocrisy of the parishioner’s, family included. Of course as more and more abuses have come to light over past decades it’s only made me sure I made the right choice. ❤

As a parent it is very difficult to look back and see how the choices you made hurt your children. I get that. I know that to admit to yourself that something you thought you were doing for good actually harmed your child. To admit to yourself that you have harmed your child is scary and overwhelming. That can be completely shattering to who you believe that you are and the parent would have to rebuild who they have believed themselves to be. They must also realize that their child's world was also shattered. But I don't understand how a parent can just completely disbelieve and furthermore blame their child.

The conference went for many hours over a few days as I recall. People in the Baptist church I went to and other related Baptist circles would quote Gothard like they were quoting the Bible. Thankful to God that He got me out of that. It stirs things up hearing these episodes.

Has Gill Bates done something wrong as in with holding information from the police about a crime or abuse towards a child? I am legitimately asking. I know he has a big family, is in the same belief system under Gorhard, etc. I just have not heard of abuse of any kind going on in his family. Gill always seemed a little more laid bk and less controlling to Kelly and his children. In my opinion. I don't feel Kelly would go along with the things Michelle has. I could be easily wrong about that though.

I'm 27, and I come from a Spanish Baptismal church in Canada. I have been exposed to ritualistic abuse within my own family, and family friends within the church, with memories extending as far from 3 till 15, that involve many blacked out recovered memories being retrieved, through intense silent meditation retreats, and time. I feel heard, and I hope this all stops one day. It's not only fathers, but mothers who partake in this abuse as well.. It's terrifying how many people I can just sense something is based off how they carry themselves nowadays. This cult is getting out of hand. & I hope those who will raise the next generation find help in order to stop the cycle from ever happening. Stay strong everybody!

I barely missed coming into the evangelical mess when I was in high school back in th early seventies. I met some really sweet warm Christians and wanted to be like them . I asked Jesus to come into my life and I participated in worship with these people for about six weeks. People spoke in tongues and healings etc. And I never objected but when I was informed that I was not really communicating directly with Jesus but that men did it for me I Was Done.

Later it came out that he was abusing men in the church. He had his own restaurant that he didnt pay wages to his employees. A murder that occured at his cathedral buffet. All Earnest ever talked about was end times and how everyone should give all their money to him because they wouldn’t need it🤦🏼‍♀️So culty it was scary. I was raised in a fundamentalist Baptist church/school. We had to wear long skirts, dresses or culottes ALL of the time. I wasn’t allowed to go to movies and I wasn’t allowed to watch a lot of tv. A lot of the families I knew in the church had 5-10 kids each. In school, you were good because the parents signed over the right for the principal to spank you with a plastic swing with holes in it! I remember that there was a teacher that worked part time job on the weekends at a fast food place. One of the leaders of the church/school went thru the drive thru, saw her wearing pants and then had her fired the following week. Back then, I didn’t know that this wasn’t normal, this was my life. It’s just crazy when I watched “Shiny Happy People” cuz I lived it. I’m SO thankful that my kids weren’t a part of that life like I was. I can only thank God that I’m not still in that.

I knew another friend who was an Assembly of God member and was part of it. Conservative parts of the Seventh-Day Adventist that homeschooled were sometimes part of it. My husband grew up conservative Baptist and was heavily influenced by IBLP teachings. It is hard to digest and not take it as an attack but as Christians we have to take a hard look at what damage has been done and how we can move forward to heal and bring healing.
