Thank you dr Sugai for this video. I have melasma on my face (forehead and cheeks) and I have watched tons of video about it. In most of them people will emphasis on sunscreen which is of course a good way to not worsen it. But very few people are giving tips to improve the skin itself. One tip which makes a huge difference for me is aloe vera. Aloe vera is the super ingredient against burns and the area affected by melasma (on my skin at least...) seems to lack hydratation. Putting only sunscreen on a dehydrated melasma prone skin is to me not enough.

If you mean in your sunscreen, some derms say not to do that as it can affect the sunscreen setting up properly. You can apply foundation over your sunscreen or even a SPF powder over the sunscreen or use a tinted sunscreen.

As a phisician you should know better. The label "Hispanic" has absolutely nothing to do with having dark skin. Nothing. Hispanics and Latinos are not genetically linked. Please keep the following in mind: Race and Hispanic origin are distinct and separate concepts. The labels "Hispanic" and "Latino" are not related to biology or skin color. Individuals of Hispanic and Latino origin do not fit into specific biological, anthropological, or genetic categories and can belong to any race, including white, black, or Asian. Any study that associates biological, anthropological, or genetic criteria with individuals of Hispanic origin is a systematic distortion of statistical outcomes, resulting from an unaccounted factor in its derivation.
@danielsugaimd10 ай бұрын
In this case, I am referring to Latin American origin and Spanish speaking countries which “Hispanic” has been defined in the dictionary. I was in France for a conference last month and my colleagues from Latin American countries battle hyperpigmentation in their patients with deeper skin tones. That is what I meant by using the term in this video. Thanks for watching.
@isyoonlifts10 ай бұрын
To be clear, race is also a social construct and a problematic one at that (just look at all the diverse ethnicities lumped together as “Asian” 🙄). I think sometimes we have no choice but to make the best of the existing framework, however flawed. I appreciate that you clarified that both skin of color and fair skinned folks can experience these issues!
@ebonyrose488710 ай бұрын
I feel ya, but the majority of the world are people of color...unless you have no melanin in your skin...I get your argument about the social construct of race/ethnicity/ nationality...makes me sick, as well, however, it doesn't change the fact the majority of the world's people are melanin-filled, from subtle to a deep, rich brown, no matter if one chooses to identify as white...can we just start over already with all of this...smh
