I've had cracks at the ends of several fingers for a long time. Doctors prescribed various creams. Didn't work. I found this video three days ago and employed a constant ointment cover to seal in all regions of dermal cracks on my fingers. It's now three days later and they are nearly completely healed. Thank you!!

I suffer with skin cracks on my fingertips every winter. As a musician & guitarist, this is a big problem. I apply First Aid Cream, then cut about an inch off the fingers of powder free, disposable vinyl gloves and cover the affected fingertips. The cuts usually heals within 2 to 3 days. Works great for me!

Working in construction all of my life my fingertips always had deep painful cracks on them. I've spent a fortune on all types of lotions and cremes over the years and nothing worked. On some of the deeper cracks, I had actually put stitches in them!! Doing that was a lot less painful than the cracks. One time out of pure desperation I put a few drops of superglue in the cracks and then held them together for a few seconds and that was the end of my painful fingertip cracks!!!! I wish I had tried it years ago! It not only works on fingertip cracks, but on any type of cut or cracks you may have elsewhere.

I take a very sharp blade and gradually shave off the bank of the crack. This is time-consuming: you don't want to hit live tissue (if you do, it's a minor annoyance, but no big deal. Just put a spot of alcohol or something and dry it and start again a bit higher up). It's this strong tough embankment of (thick, dead, fast-growing epidermis) that makes it so easy to deepen the bottom of the gulley to keep getting deeper until it hits the nerves. cutting away the top/side of the valley makes it much weaker and it can't pull hard across the bottom. Then put vaseline down in the gulley(s) and wrap (not tightly) with a quarter-inch wide strip of really adhesive Gorilla glue duct-tape.

Thank you SO much for posting this video. For the past few years my hands have been drying up as soon as fall starts and they just get worse until winter arrives. They crack and bleed when I make a fist in the winter. Usually at that point, I can either shell out a ton of money ordering Gly Miracle (which works great) or I try a variety of OTC or homemade stuff that doesn’t work until spring returns. I just started using Aquaphor after seeing this video and my hands look 80% better after one week of occasional use. This stuff’s fantastic. Thanks again!

What happens if you have done this for a month, without it healing? Every time it appears to be healing, it dries out, the crack goes away, and almost immediately, it gets another crack, not always in the same place, but on the same finger.

I found relief by trimming away the tough edges of crack with (sanitized) nail nipper or manicure scissors then repeat above technique. Can be very painful when trimming if you really get to healthy skin, but it may be worthwhile. Super glue if cut/crack is not too painfully deep, &/or ointment then bandage with tape or finger cot or rubber glove over bandage whenever feasible. (We all know the bandage won't last or stay clean except possibly while asleep) The key is getting tough surface skin away to prevent re-injury through out the day. You might also try wearing a purchased silicone fingertip found with paper or office supplies.

Burt's Bees Cuticle Cream and paper tape. I have suffered from this for years. I found a solution that works for me and I think has helped solve the underlying problem. A friend turned me on to Burt's Bees Cuticle Cream a decade ago and has saved my hands during the winter. I buy 4 or 5 at the beginning of the winter and label them "office", "bedroom", "car", etc. and keep one or two with my wallet and keys and put it in my pocket every day. I have gotten into the habit of just moisturizing my fingertips many times a day, probably a dozen or more times and that keeps it at bay. But if I forget or run out and develop a bad crack, Ive found that if all I do is apply it at night to the cracks, the pain stops within 30 minutes (and i can fall asleep) and the next morning it has started healing. For the worst cracks, ill cover the cuticle cream, wrappin the tip with paper tape. Its cheaper than a bandage and stcks extremely well. The paper tape will stay stuck through most of the day if you work outside for a living. Speaking of which- i found that that's a major cause of this, working with your hands exposed outside and especially with anything that strips the natural moisture out of your skin. Construction workers handling construction material: WEAR GLOVES! Buy any type of "hand repair" dry skin cream, slather on your hands and put on the gloves. You'll be able to be a construction worker AND hand model. Soon, the gloves will be coated inside with hand cream and you can just put on the gloves. BURT'S BEES CUTICLE CREAM. That stuff saved me. You have to have a HABIT of applying every hour or two.

I suggest looking into Vitamin deficiencies.. Google as to which ones would cause "finger fissures." Ask your primary care physician for blood work to check for the vitamins you find after your Google search. The doctor in this video does not discuss causation, only treatment (most MDs are not trained in nutrition). If a vitamin deficiency is ruled out or you continue to experience this issue, I would then consult a dermatologist about possible eczema or psoriasis being the cause.

Another good way is to cut the thumbs / or finger/s off a latex glove and put them on the effected thumb or finger/s , with or without vasoline or simular - a bit of sticking plaster around the base of the cut glove piece to keep it in place , it's easier than a bandaid as you dont have the uneven bits sticking up..

I have been plagued with cracking fingers for years. Especially in the winter. Mostly on my right hand as I am right handed. I have to keep rubber gloves to wear when I do dishes. I find the best hand cream has Urea in it. Avon sells a hand cream called Silicone glove, which I use multiple times a day. I do use crazy glue and I keep it on hand mostly for healing cracks in my fingers. If you can sqeaze the crack shut when you apply the crazy glue it works better. Cracks sting and the glue stops the pain. By the time the glue falls off the crack is healed. I find if I knit or do tapestry work with wool the wool seems to dry out my hands. I also go through a lot of bandaids. The skin on my right thumb peels and the first finger always has dry rough skin and often splits. I put polysporin on the skin and wrap a bandaid over it. I sometimes have to use clear medical tape to keep the bandaid on longer.

I suffer with this bad every winter. When my wife actually has time to help me with this it clears up fairly quickly. I find that a combination of longer finger nails and cold and wet conditions cause this so first trim down the nail including the corners as much as possible. Then my wife will trim the dry hard skin either side of the crack with nail clippers as I find that stops the healing, Then she will file down the loose jagged bits of the crack with a nail board which is a bit uncomfortable but worth it in the long run. I don't think the filing down is completely necessary but the first 2 steps are.

I'm also the only one that keeps the fire going(being single does have it's disadvantages at times)🤷‍♀️🙍‍♀️I have at least 3 split fingers on each had ALL winter. I have to keep the healing hands, Neosporin or bactin on with Band-Aid and I cover the Band-Aid with tape. If I don't they seem to fall off. However they don't heal for about 5-8 days(if not longer). What else could I do to help it, THEY ARE HORRIBLY HORRIBLY PAINFUL

As a building contractor as well as a guitar player This this a yearly woe I use super glue often but unfortunately they will often reopen at work so i am applying new bandages through the day and by nighttime after a shower the skin gets a bit softer and there is no way to play the instrument So I develop the deep painful crevices And look forward to days off to treat my knuckles and finger pads So it takes weeks in my case Im babying 3 tonight 2 days before Christmas and 9 days t before a show Looking for another trick but most likely it will be the thick superglue to get through the night on stage and then a few days of inflammation and pain as they slowly heal Thanks for the vid

I've had a crack in two fingers and have used gloves when dishwashing, used bandaids, and liquid bandage. They just don't want to go away.

Thanks! It hurt like a mother; I had cracks on the opposing sides of two fingers and they'd rub together to add to the pain. But now it will heal. I really appreciate the help.

Liquid skin is the best...and apply it as soon as you feel a crack coming on. You may also find it helpful, when initially applying it, to pull open the crack so it flows deep inside. Burns for a second or two. Also, may need to apply 2 or 3 coats to seal it good. Let it dry in-between coats. Finally, one Physicians Assistant told me to apply CUREL ANTI ITCH every night to my hands. She said i know they dont itch...but that's the one to use...ANTI ITCH. Lastly, if you apply the Curel or any moisturizer at bedtime...you may want to wear white cotton gloves to bed to keep the moisture in. Get a humidifier in your bedroom and drink plenty of liquid. Also, i thought i read where primrose oil capsules taken daily might help. This happens to me every winter.

I agree with you and my hands are so badly cracked open to where they are bleeding all the time. I've been wearing latex gloves to bed with my hands covered in healing cream/lotion. Seems to help but I'm a mechanic and I wear gloves at work now so stuff doesn't get into the deep cracks. I've tried just about every solution out there and super glue just burns and doesn't hold up even with multiple coats on the cracks. Thanks for your advice. Just sucks and it only happens during the winter months. Sad to say but they hurt so much that I can't even open a zip lock baggy and if I do manage to get it open I'm a bloody mess. Wish I could do something different for a career but been a mechanic for around 30 years roughly.

Fastest way I've found to stop the cracked fingertip pain and close the cracks, is put a drop or 2 of (cyanoacrylate containing) Super Glue/instant glue in the crack, then sprinkle A&H baking soda over it (causes it to dry instantly & very hard), lightly brush away the powder, flex the tip to inspect for other cracks if any and seal them up too. 1 - 5 min. & you're done. Then before bed, you can apply Gold Bond healing hand cream (very good!) and coconut oil (good for skin), and cover them with jersey gloves, to help your hands get moisturized as you sleep. But O'keef's didn't work for me.

Good video. I will try what the video recommends. I have some sort of eczema which comes on at any time of year, and is rearing its ugly head right now, and the temperature in June in near Augusta, GA is around 100 high. The fingers on both hands start cracking on the ends, beginning with the thumbs. It is very painful. Years ago, when this condition first began, my toes would also do this, and I was working back then with split open toes AND fingers. It was horrible. I could barely walk. Then, it clears up as soon as it appeared - overnight. No one has been able to determine the cause. The Medical College of GA Dermatology Dept. gave me several ointments and creams to try, but the condition cleared up overnight and I never did know which, or even if any of them, worked. It does help to use rubber gloves when using DAWN to do anything. DAWN is a nice product to cut grease and take out stains, but it is hell on your hands. NEVER allow your hands to come in contact with it. I would LOVE to know what causes this stuff in the first place. I do have asthma and COPD and take meds for both, and maybe they could be a problem. But years ago, when I first got this condition, I did not have asthma or COPD back then.

I work in my wood shop, and I grow a hugh garden, which causes my fingers to crack all the time. Something about wood and dirt that causes it. I use Bag Balm on them every day after a shower. It helps a lot.

Thank you doctor. That’s what has been happening with my left thumb and everything you described nails it. I was on the right track but you clarified the numbers for me. I was actually going to use crazy glue tonight but it dried up but based on what you said it might have been to late to use that. Thank you again.

Thank you SO much for this advice. I currently have 1, but suffered from more these past couple of winters. Do you think that wearing rubber gloves, when having my hands in water, will help prevent these cuts?

Boy do I feel your pain, quite literally. I've been cutting apart bandages for years for this, to create a bandage that will A, stick to the end of a thumb or finger and B, fit the end of the thumb or the finger. It's a time consuming process and they only stick for maybe twelve hours, but I cut into a round bandaid, fit it onto the end of my thumb, then find super sticky bandaids that I cut into strips, and I just use the super sticky strips. Time consuming.

The 3m Nexcare band-aids work pretty well. Far better than Band-aid brand. Also, rubber gloves work well.
