Do you get these cracks on your fingertips and cuticles?
@msr11164 жыл бұрын
I do ! But, they never much bothered me in prior winters---until this heating season began. My dry skin patches became apparent when snagging became more frequent. Not doing anything out of the ordinary except.....using alcohol based hand sanitizer throughout the day. My aha moment. Edit: I just thought of maybe it's that we're not drying our hands completely after washing them. Residual dampness on skin that's exposed to very dry and chilly or hot air will cause cracking.
@nikkipage92844 жыл бұрын
I used to get them so bad when I kept my nails super-short under the fingertip. When I let them grow a small amount, then cut my nails straight across the top and not the sides of my fingers, the small amount of your nail touching the top of your fingertip will protect your fingers from cracking.

The worst was in my youth when i made pretzels all day amd coffee all night. The constant washing of hands, dipping in baking soda wash, and wiping espresso from portafilters.....i had to get a medicated lotion. I'll definetely try this when I get back to heavy gardening! My hands are constantly in dirt or art supplies, or doing roof repairs or home renovation. Thank you for the tip!

I use O 'Keeffee's working hands hand cream. Ive used it for several years. I work outside, muck stalls, bull ride, work the hay fields etc and this has stopped my fingers from cracking. It runs in my family and this WORKS. I use it at night and in the morning they don't hurt any longer and are healed basically by morning if not next day. I use them even on cuts and no scar left. A little bit goes a long way. Just a suggestion. God Bless

He is currently working to heal cracks on both thumbs and fore fingers! I pray this helps him!

I get them too. Every year for many years. I will look for it. Thank You, Renee. Cold weather in a few weeks, Minnesota gets long cold winters. I wondered how to prevent this too. It has to be a mineral or collagen missing in the body??? Maybe finger tips you can get at pharmacy. Or gloves, & was them. Or create tips on finger tips. Gauze with tiny tape. Just a thought. I should try it for my toes. Had toe nail removals this summer. Still healing. Thank you for your lovely ideas.

I don’t get them all the time and l notice it can happen when my nail has broken low and l have to trim it down to get rid of the jaggedness. Hi Renee From Linda and Rufus in England. I have had these cracks since I was a child. Not sure if we can get that cream but I will try, thanks so much for the tip. I have used Hemp cream from the Body Shop and white cotton gloves, 😆 my husband teases me no end. Last year Rufus got some salt on his paws from the grit spreader and we had a long walk home before I could wash it off. I used hemp cream on his paws as they looked sore, next day they were fine. Love your videos you have two new fans me and Rufus 😁

I don’t get the cracks, but I have really dry feeling hands in the winter. I use the gold bond every night and I sleep in gloves. I got them from amazon and I think they are called sleep gloves. They made a world of difference in how my hands feel. I hate having lotion on my hands during the day because I would pick up something to eat and I would taste it or worse yet, I would rub my eye, so now I just sleep with well lotioned hands and I am good all day without having to use lotion during the day.

Good tip. Looks like a lot of people experience this problem. I used to get cracked heels, and my husband said, stop wearing sandals and exposing your feet to the elements. I think I looked at him with "the evil eye". I didn't follow his advice until I got into my 60's and really didn't wear shorts anymore, making it easier to just wear my tennis shoes year round. Of course I did my normal stuff of soaking my feet, taking care of my feet, using creams etc. But it wasn't until I stopped exposing my feet to the elements and wearing sandals when I finally notice them heal - for good. He's never worn sandals, and the bottoms of his feet, toes, heels, ankles are as soft and smooth as a baby's face (or butt). But it's not practical for everyone to not wear sandals in the summertime. I totally get it.

Renee !! I have an allergy to o e if the gold bond lotions. I will look for the hand creamed. I am afraid if this idea because I had such a huge reaction to it. I think it made me sick, I have unusual hyper allergies to things that smell. Be careful other readers, just use a little. I tried it a few times & over time & the same reaction. Just sharing , just in case anyone else has reactions to random new smells or lotions. I was so totally shocked. The reaction was bigger than life. Very strong reaction & miserable. I want to try the hand creamed. If it does not work. If I gave a bad reaction, I will take it back. Thank You so Much. You have very helpful ideas. I do not travel. I loved the sharing about Mexico. The stories how they chase blinds. Si If I go I can cover my hair or dye darker hair. I use light red usually. I grew up with blond , a little red tones. Smiles. No emojis on here. M.L.

I had this problem for many years, but it went away completely when I stopped using toxic cleaners in my home. No hand sanitizer, no chemical laden cleaning products, no store-bought laundry detergent, etc. Now, I clean with white vinegar and use Dr. Bronner soap products for washing/showering/cleaning in the home. I also do not use any nail products. I haven't had any cracks since going natural with my cleaning products. When I did have the finger cracks, Weleda Calendula Diaper Rash Cream helped heal them. There must be something special about these diaper rash products. LOL

Thank you for normalizing the condition! I, of course, was the only person with the condition! As a guitar player, immediate solution is mandatory! I definitely confirm the "feels so good" comment! My solutions: Neutrogena Norwegian, ointment. (a little goes a long way, focused application as demonstrated) Cornhuskers lotion. (a little goes a long way. This is my urgent care, emergency room!) I appreciate your suggestion! Another option is important! (Most over-the- counter lotions make my hands sweat; those don't work--infact, they make the condition worse!)

Chiming in late here, but something that helped our family with cracked fingertips was replacing all the hand soap in our sinks with one specific type of Oil of Olay body wash - the one that has Vitamin E in it and has a "24 hours" on the label works best . It doesn't have a floral scent, so the manly men in the family like it, too - moisturizes your skin every handwash, but not enough to leave a mess on a phone screen or computer keyboard. I'm going to try some of the A&D, too, for those rare occasions when I do still get a crack, (e.g. when I do housework without gloves or come into contact with a harsh cleanser some other way). P.S. Really enjoy your channel, Renee! Yet another Canadian fan . . . stay warm and well . . . spring is just around the corner!

Seeing as this only occurs in the winter it appears to be a dehydration problem as using the heating tends to dry out the air dramatically. For years I used to get dry elbows in the wintertime and just waited for the humid summer for it to go away. Then I eventually moved to a super dry desert climate. And it was worse than wintertime all year round. I got bloody noses and dried skin big time. Same with my ex partner. We found out that drinking lots of water did NOT hydrate us. Only when we started eating lots of juicy fruit (like melons 🍉 and grapes 🍇and oranges ) did the dehydration or dried up skin problems go away. Now I have soft and smooth skin all year round. Even for days when we get ZERO percent humidity. Never do I get a sign of cracking skin. Of course, the preoccupation with washing hands with soap will also dry hands out like crazy. So avoid soap or anything else that dries out the hands.

Hello and thank you for your suggestion. I cannot use Gold Bond due to being allergic to the ingredients, but I will try the A+D diaper cream. I have had these same cracks--and on my heels--probably since my 20's (I am in my 60's). One major reason for these cracks (or fissures) is having your hands in water all the time. Washing dishes by hand is the worst, since the chemicals tend to dry out your hands and fingers. Slight improvement if you use organic, no perfumes, no dye, no SLS, etc. in the ingredients. It's a combination of the water--which is usually warm to hot--and the detergent. I should buy stock in the Band-Aid companies, since I am constantly sealing my fingertips with them before going to bed--with no cream on them. This may work for me. Thank you. I will get back to you on my success.

Oh yes, I can commiserate 😉 I have used a wonderful product for probably 30 years by Vaseline. I don't know if it's still available in stores but it's called Camphor Ice skin balm and it literally heals overnight. It's not messy or greasy, more like a chapstick for your hands. 😊😊😊
