Hi Dr. Schultz~ I love these videos! So informative. I have a question about tropical vacation and tretinoin use. I use tretinoin every night and glycolic acid every other morning. I'm going to Mexico in April and I'm wondering if you recommend discontinuing tretinoin for a week before and during the vacation, and also if you recommend using glycolic every day even when on a sunny vacation? Thanks ~angie

I'm pretty sure if you remember to apply your sunscreen consistently and liberally, you'll be fine.

I love your videos! Very helpful! Thanks, I was thinking of trying retin a again, over my current glycolic, which I love. After watching this, I feel confident in staying with what I'm using now. Vicki

I didn't know that glycolic and tretinion does practically the same thing! I, too, have always thought tretinion is a superior product since it's prescription only. Thanks for the clarification doc!!!

AHA’s are not a substitute for Retin-A! While both slough away skin cells, AHA’s don’t generate new collagen to fill in deep wrinkles like the acne/anti wrinkle drug Retin-A. So says dermal researcher Lorraine Kligman, Ph.D., an assistant research professor at the Department of Dermatology of the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine, who conducted skin tests comparing a cream with .05 percent retinoic acid to one with 10 percent glycolic acid. New collagen was seen after 10 weeks in the skin treated with retinoic acid, but no new collagen was detected in the glycolic acid-treated skin. Kligman believes collagen synthesis is due to the presence of receptors for retinoic acid on fibroblasts, the skin’s collagen-making cells. However, there are no such receptors for glycolic acid or other AHA’s, so collagen synthesis does not occur. “AHA’s simply exfoliate the skin while retinoic acid works at the nuclear level, “she explains.

phototristan Thanks so much for this info!!! Does non prescription retinol generate new collagen then? I've heard mixed reports. Some say it's too weak, but I've read other reports that it can.

leftyla Probably but prescription tretinoin would be more effective. AHA is a good exfoliator though so you probably would want to use both alternately. I've done a lot of research on this.

Curious Doctor what to do about a deep acne scar. I am 56 and had terrible acne as a teen. I now have a sunken pocket under one cheek. Is there a "plumper" type of product, or is an injection type treatment needed? Thanks n advance!

Dr. Schultz can you please cover topics relating to hair. Can you discuss reasons and treatments for hair loss, specifically Chronic Telogen Effluvium.
@MissDa25510 жыл бұрын
ech4949 Thanks, I have seen the video about Telogen Effluvium and other forms of hair loss, he mentioned that TE usually lasts 6 months, but he didnt talk about Chronic Telogen Effluvium, which lasts more than 6 months or even years. It would be great if he discusses the causes and treatment options for TE lasting more than 6 months and what triggers it.

Hi my name is Kay, and I have a question on using hydroquinone. Is it safe to use on all areas of discoloration as in around the neck, knees, underarms as well as the face. These are the areas that are considerably darker than the rest of my body and I'm wondering if a larger amount of use will cause any side effects. Is a 3% cream safe as well?

Dear derm tv. I use a 10% glycolic acid and an a-vitamin easter to thicken my skin. I have seen a great result in terms of the overall texture. But i have deep wrinkles around my eyes. What can i do to help repair these? Thank you :)

Hi Dr Schultz. I have a question I really want to ask. Do you know of any vitamin C products that are good to use? I am not currently using one at the moment and I was just wondering if you could advice me on where to start?

Dr. Schultz, do you recommend laser treatment for rosacea and couperose? Or is there an alternative how to get rid of both? Thanks for your input!

....I have large pores on my nose and it's improved by keeping the area oil free. I use a Neostrata AHA (acid) cleanser on it and never put moisturiser on it, (but obviously when I use makeup I have to put it on my nose). Hope this helps in some way!!

I have seen online 30%, 50% glycolic peels and even 70%?!! Is this safe to do at home?

Hi Doctor Schultz! First I would like to thank you for your amazing and really informative videos! Could you please give us your opinion on high frequency machine use? What possible benefits it has? I have one home, I have been using it to get rid of pimples but if I use it often my skin becomes drier. Thank you!!

Recently, I had a really bad breakout so I went to an esthetician a couple of times and she gave me chemical peels. However, I feel like it didn't really do much. I also went to a chinese herb doctor and most of my acne is gone, but, because I have oily skin, I have humongous pores even though I'm only 22. Is there any way to shrink them? Both at home or at my esthetician (so that the next time I went, I know what to ask for)?

Dr. Shultz, I've been using a product that contains 2% hydroquinone for almost 2 years. It has helped keep the few dark spots under my eyes and forhead at bay, but they're still there and I have to cover them with a little extra make-up. I've been wanting to try a 6% hydroquinone, but was wondering if it would be too harsh or if it would even help lighten my brown spots further. Also, Dr. Shultz, why is the skin on my knees darker than the rest of my skin on my legs. I hate it. What can I use to lighten that area? Thank you. Love your channel.
