This was my first ever game of football. What a start! I had forgotten that it was 0-0 till late on until I met Eddie Mahon many years later! I never forgot the names of the team. Roy Seddon taught me PE at school.: he was a really good guy. Great days.

Would be nice to see Derry back in the Irish League. Would be some great games to be had.

If we ever get the politics sorted it would be fantastic to have an all Ireland league it would improve the quality of the game for all

Just one of the great cup wins for Derry City. Unfortunately Harps only ever had one cup win in their 42 years, and only it was then a team almost full of Derry men, they would even have that.

Some great characters in that team; Eddie of course; Billy Cathcart, a crowd favourite; Frankie Campbell, Jimmy McGeough who I think hailed from Waterford; Dougie Wood; Joey Wilson from Drogheda and legendary Derrymen Jimbo Crossan, Matt Doherty, Roy Seddon, who taught in the Model School, and the brilliant Fay Coyle.

I believe the crowd was 26000. The record crowd for an IFA Cup final was when Derry City played Glentoran in 1954 when Derry City won 1-0 in the 2nd replay. There were over 33000 for the first game and over 30000 for the other two.

@Mike M The gate receipts were recorded for the Irish cup finals but they used to round it up to the nearest 1,000, so the figures are right. It was the same with League games. Our memories always make us think the crowds were much bigger than they actually were. You hear stories of regular crowds of 10,000 plus at league games, but when any historian looks back at the club's books, they were either opening the doors and letting thousands in for free or average attendances [without Linfield home games] was 2-4,000 between 1952-1966
