I absolutely love your zebra, Lisa. So happy to find an artist who loves inktense. I have bars and pencils, but haven't done much with them. You have some awesome Patreon tutorials with them, as well. You're really good at explaining and demonstrating. Thanks!

I love; Magenta and turquoise personally! I use them together oh.... tons. So I can understand loving a beautiful colour combo! Still I like variety with my art. I bought the pencils and now after more research I realize I need the blocks to use them to full effectiveness! I’ll have to save for them and get them soonish. As I really like how opaque the white is from the blocks and the easier mixing and creating washes, glazes and underneath layers.... hmmmm.... thanks for the nice video!

So pretty Lisa! I was just studying the difference between the inktense and the other watercolor pencils. I was reading that these are made with water soluble "ink" and especially good for glazing. I love the effect these pencils have in your paintings. Do you happen to know what binder is used in the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer vs. the Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle's? I've been trying to find that info and there are a few forum posts that seem to suggest that it can be either wax or oil and gum arabic. "Watercolour pencils can use water-soluble dispersions of oil, soluble soaps, and fatty acids, but can instead use a water-gum binder, more like watercolours. However they are considerably harder, and as a pencil are encased in a wooden sleeve. So some can be closely related to water-soluble wax pastels, others more to watercolour paints." I'm guessing that the Caran D'ache Museum Aquarelle's are more like the "water-coluble wax pastels" (like their neo-color II) with a high pigment to binder ratio, hence the high color payoff yet the high level of opacity as well (they do not sell an oil based pencil, only one product in their line uses oil, their oil pastels), and the Faber Castell Albrecht Durer uses oil (like the Polychromos) with a slightly lower pigment to binder ratio, giving them more transparency yet slightly less color payoff? Does that mesh with your thinking? Apparantly these brands do not like to disclose what binder they use in their watercolor pencil lines!

As usual, I always learn so much from your tutorials, thank you Lisa Clough! As for your brain telling you it's a giraffe when you know and mean to say zebra, I truly relate with but I love the way you laugh at it and move on. I find that it's likely my fibro acting up----there are days when I find myself doing/saying stuff the same way you describe lol. Grrrr......I can't speak today lol!

Great video! I love how your style meshes with this medium. You mentioned using a Taklon filbert for large areas. I recently purchased a really good mop brush and have found that for doing washes, it is great. I also bought some Silver brushes (that’s the brand name) and they also work well for the wash stages of a painting. I realize that you have been working in the Inktense as if they were watercolors, but you might want to give actual watercolors a try. The good ones layer pretty well and the colors end up very vivid. I have just started using Qor watercolors, which I prefer since they have less color shift than most and the colors seem to be richer. I always end up working on top with either Inktense or regular watercolor pencils. Do you use any fixative on your finished pieces? I recently watched a video in which the Caran D’Ache representative recommended several types, including Lasqueux.

Lisa, I love watching your videos. Thank you so much. I do have a question. I received the Derwent Inktense pencils for Christmas, but my pencil sharpeners are too small. What do you use for them?
@sammibee66406 жыл бұрын
Faber castell has a great sharpner that works perfect. It has three different sharpners in one thing. Its two sided two universal and one for color grip, the colorgrip works so well with prisma, but the universal size works for inktense. I got mine at Michael's for 4 dollarsmon sale

Dear Lisa! I just got my set of 36 derwent inktense blocks and a set of 24 derwent inktense pencils. Both have your painted pictures on them and they look great! I wanted to start out with a colorful zebra. But not in your colors. Do you think I could paint it with blues and purples? And of course white and black. Or would that create mud... I definitivly want to use blue,but if purple doesn't work,what color would you recommend? I am super proud of owning two original "paintings" from you,even if they are just on the two boxes!!! And could you please explain to me what purpose that outliner pencil has? Is this a water solubale graphite or something like that? Already thank you! Be blessed! And thank you for the joy you brought to me, just by looking at your made pictures of the boxes! Love from Manuela, to you dearest Lisa
@Lachri6 жыл бұрын
Yep, purple and blue will look great together! For the outliner, I don't like it. It's intended to be a pencil that won't wash away when you put water and inktense over it, but that is the opposite of what I want! I don't want my pencil lines to show through so I use a water soluble graphite pencil instead :)
@manuelaherr90276 жыл бұрын
Lachri Fine Art Dear Lisa! Thank you for your nice response, I really appreciate it! What I forgot you to ask is: Do I have to finish an inktense project in one session or can I, especially though I am doing my first project with those, let it sit and pause to think about what I am going to paint next in my purple,blue and teal zebra? I have already taped my paper down,traced on the zebra with watersolubale graphite and made a color chart for this project with the colors I want to use. Now I have to get over the fear to start. It is always hard for me,if I get something totally new that looks so georgeous when I get it that I am going to ruin this supplies! Already thank you,dearest Lisa! Be blessed in all you do! Love from Manuela

Love your videos! Always great 😁. I was wondering what changes is fabriano making with their papers? I recently got a watercolor block by fabriano but haven't had the chance to use it 🤔
@Lachri6 жыл бұрын
It reacts differently with water, I find it warps more now. When layering oil or wax based colored pencils I also find that the color lays down really fast but when I layer and blend over it with OMS it almost lifts part of the previous layer. It still looks good, I just have to adjust the way I layer a bit. I did like it with the colored pencil once I figured out to reverse how I added details and layers from how I usually work.

I'm 60 and I have some arthritis issues in my hands. I thought I would like the water brushes but I have to squeeze them hard too much. I haven't tried Derwent yet. Are they easier to squeeze?
@Lachri6 жыл бұрын
I've not had any trouble myself but these ones are a bit more firm than the one cheapy generic one (not sure the name) that I have. You may be better off with a regular paint brush and water in a cup :D
@kalla66746 жыл бұрын
I use Pentel waterbrushes and I barely have to squeeze those at all. Most of the time the water flows freely and evenly without being squeezed, but sometimes it gets stuck or if I want a lot of water I'll squeeze it gently.

Lachri Fine Art Yeah, I just gave up and went back to the brushes.
