People have a right to protest.

The peaceful protest is ongoing and did not last just "a few minutes" as desantis jubilantly claims to make himself feel like a tough guy. Desantis came to UF to squash any peaceful protests, to fear monger, and lie about what the pro Palestinian students are trying to accomplish. He doesn't care that his lies could instigate violence against students who support Gaza / Palestine by those who feel they have the governor's permission and are justified. His statements could increase the negative comments and harassment towards pro Palestinian protesters. Desantis' inflammatory rhetoric towards students is disgusting and abhorrent. By stating that students who support the Palestinian people are pro Hamas, he is parroting Netanyahu who said "Antisemitic mobs have taken over leading universities." Students protesting for a ceasefire in support of women and children in Gaza is not antisemitic nor are they a mob. Did he make it a point to mention that students here are calling for divestment and disclosure from UF and not inciting antisemitism? No, because that is also wrong for students to want to know where their money is going. UF students protesting have never occupied a building, set up camp like a camping ground, harassed anyone with antisemitic comments, or vandalized anything. Not because politicians and the police warned them, but because they are intelligent and certain about what they hope to accomplish. Yet, they were met with harassment by police who hovered around daily, took their chairs, including a chair from a student with a disability, and water and arrested nine students for "trespassing". False charges. Holding signs, chanting, sitting on the lawn which students do every day and during events, and peacefully marching is not trespassing. They are exercising their first amendment rights which I understand republican politicians don't want liberal voters to do, especially not young adults and college students who vote. The republican politician's agenda is always more money for their coffer and to hell with humanity. I agree that security is important. Especially since according to the ADL, antisemitic incidents have increased to historic levels since 2022, largely attributed to right-wing extremist and white supremacist groups, not the protesting pro Palestinian college students. Oh goody, a history lesson from a man who stated "black people benefited from being enslaved". Anyone salivating at desantis' "strong arm" tactics while he also threatens faculty for "not keeping order" without having any real knowledge or facts about the UF student's protests has no interest in truth or in how the students have conducted themselves or why they are protesting. You only want to hear from politicians like desantis who use their platform to bully others and lie to their constituents. Basically, desantis came to Gainesville to threaten University faculty, keep the students in line, pitch his executive order and congratulate himself. Well done.
