Jon: their first album “Milo Goes to College” is a must for your collection. Andy: throw a dart at any song on “Milo.” Suburban Home perhaps? Or Marriage.

Dorothy Parker, on being told that Calvin Coolidge had died - How can they tell? Around 1978, it seemed every kid you met in England either played guitar or his best mate did, and there was an explosion of really crap local bands as well as the good stuff - and the late sainted John Peel would play them all on national radio. I get the impression that the American experience was very different. Dad can I have another pear drop? Dad can I have another drink? Dad how deep d’y’reckon that is? Dad are we nearly there yet? Brian May abandoned his PhD (Pretty Heavy Diploma) in astrophysics when Queen (ptui!) took off. in 2006, he went back to university to complete it. That was a piece of piss, because he and his boss had put out a paper on interplanetary dust in the Solar System which had been cited in the meantime by just about everyone.

Bill Stevensen is the only original member ever since the All album. And don't forget they formed the band All (slightly confusing) so Bill, Karl and Stephen could keep making music while Milo was a scientist. All had multiple singers. So Bill is actually the leader of both bands. So perhaps that could help you appreciate Black Flag, which I certainly do. I find Black Flag more experimental than Descendents. Especially the bizarre Family Man album. BF guitarist Greg Ginn was influenced by not only Ramones but also free jazz and Grateful Dead...constantly alienating the hardcore fans
