Also, Browns gave up 3 first rounders, 1 third rounder, and 2 fourth rounders for Watson, who was a free agent who didn't even want to play for the Browns. Rodgers at least wants to play for the Jets, he won an MVP a year prior, and is considered one of the greatest QBs of all time. I would be shocked if we ever see a fully guaranteed contract for that kind of money any time in the future due to Deshaun Watson. I know the Browns haven't had much success over the years, but this is the kind of trade to tank them for a very long time..

By trading away any players of value it helps to ensure the team will suck resulting in a better draft position. That's the easy part. The Texans did just that and now have a bevy of young star talent helping the team to rise from the ash heaps of rebuild purgatory.

With Watson out for the season, the Browns lose no matter what they do with him moving forward. They already restructured his contract for cap room, so that means Watson counts for about $64M for the next three years. It gets worse if the Browns cut Watson. Regardless of when they cut him, Watson still counts to at least $155M in dead cap money, quite a lot to pay someone to say "leave, and never return". ($7.6 million a game) A frigging game while most Americans are having a tough time making their rent/mortgage, putting food on the table. I was so excited about Watson. I’m not even a Texans fan, but I just rooted for him as a player. He was electrifying. And then he SA'd literally dozens of women. People were concerned about how Jackson Mahomes dancing would effect the Chiefs, but all seemed sure that the most prolific predator in NFL history would be the perfect person to build a franchise around. Cleveland got what they deserved. And Watson gets to live in the city he deserves.

As I suggested elsewhere, I think the NFL Commissioner needs to have a say when major trades or big contracts over a certain amount and term are proposed. It would reduce the self-inflicted unnecessary risks and ruin of teams like Cleveland, leave teams enough money to get or keep other critical better tier players, more balance between teams.
