Follow along as product design engineer Tanner Reid (@TannerSReid) goes through the workflow of modeling a tufted panel headboard using Fusion’s sculpting and modeling environments. Fusion 360 is easy-to-use 3D modeling design software that lets you design, validate, and manufacture your woodworking and furniture products. Each phase of the product journey is integrated into one CAD/CAM solution.

GREAT Tutorial ! It provided the knowledge I needed to make another jump in Fusion360. Just after the 9:00 minute mark, the T-Spline Trim, Patch, Cutter, Boundary Fill tool instruction is a quick little hidden gem! I am working on a design that will be a cast bronze lighting component and this is the workflow knowledge I needed. Thank you Tanner.

Could you please make a quick video explaining how to make that duvet? I try to make it using the form tool however I see no way to make the curve uniform and vertical on the sides

Is there a way to duplicate the projected geometry so that it can be used for like revolve or something?

You divided the plane until it looked good enough. What if I need a more accurate definition? E.g. if I want to divide it to squares and the length and height don't divide that way? (e.g. length is 176, height is 100 and I want 20 by 20 squares). Is there a way to divide the plane unevenly without dividing to many many lines (e.g. 1 cm in my example)? Something like have two length faces of 8 at both sides and then subdivide what's left to 8*4 and 5*4

I wish Fusion would integrate at least some kind of fabric simulation feature. If Blender can do it, Fusion sure as shit should. Also, some kind of randomizing feature. It is almost impossible to model and render realistic looking soft goods in Fusion. I guess they want you to get the way more expensive 3ds max. Only I don't want to do animation, etc. Anyone have experience using fusion with Marvelous Designer?

In production, it's useless information. We are still do not have tools for making furniture like, for example the cutting list for sheet materials (like plywood), with the size, types and consumption of materials. And you demonstrate to us how cool we could draw some fancy\cartoonish bed. I can draw 10 beds like this one, in any 3D software. But in real life I cannot show it to my boss, because this, is not a product design, it's a concept design.

+Ebalduck Thanks for the feedback! This is definitely a concept design workflow - and the goal is to demonstrate the way the sculpting and parametric design tools can work together to create forms that demonstrate what the end goal is (though these tools work great for DFM as well). It's really not important to model tufting like this to an exact specification, because when you're actually manufacturing that furniture, a 3d model of the tufting isn't necessary - just the backing to be cut. Once that's done, the builder would lay on the foam and sew in the buttons and fabric, which is a relatively imprecise process. This workflow is a way to represent those parts of the furniture like the tufting, pillows, blankets, etc. And I understand the value of a product design video! This workflow is just a piece of the total process - unfortunately, to show the workflow to fully design this bed to be completely specified and manufacturable would be a video far longer than 20minutes. If you're interested, we have a lot of other videos that dive into other specific and more technical aspects of the modeling process in our various youtube playlists here: kzbin.infoplaylists Some are tutorials, while others are shorter tips-and-tricks. Thanks for the feedback! We always appreciate it.

Great point of view. But I know people who works making wood chairs, and uses all the Fusion 360 "product design" mechanical for this. But, a secondary importance of the job is demonstrate how the chair textil parts will be, and I think the video is very useful for this.
