Just some random thoughts you can use them or not. Standard Kitchens allow only one way into the kitchen and one way out, this is to prevent people from colliding with each other while holding plates. You're missing a dishpit (Though I think I see dishwashers to the south?). Cost of a plate is typically the cost of the ingredients for one plate times the magic number of 3, this covers the overhead: wages, plates, etc. Say you serve a slice of toast, the customer isn't just buying the toast. He's paying for the jelly or butter he may or may not use on it as well. So take the cost of one piece of bread lets say 10c, then the cost of a serving of jelly and butter may be 5c, so add that all up it will be 20c * 3, to a total of 60c. This will cover the wage of the dude that put it in the toaster, the cost of the electricity for the toaster, the cost of the dude cleaning the plate the toast was served on etc. Most restaurants see a small ass profit margin of 10-15 Percent if lucky for the first year open. (I know this is a game just random things I was thinking while stoned about to go to a kitchen in a few hours). Looks great and looking forward to everything you accomplish boss.
@LTSlugg3 жыл бұрын
nvm watched the rest of the vid I like how you compare this to a tower defense game, its great. Its all I think when I'm cooking.
@PixelArchitect3 жыл бұрын
Really nice to hear about the margins and profits! I can probably adjust the cost of things to better match real world margins, gives it an extra touch of realism. Didn't know about the kitchen layout. Makes a lot of sense, I guess that's way they have the double sided swing doors... I once briefly helped with a Restaurant related app startup and had to go around interviewing restaurant managers. From what I gathered, it's a super difficult business and the managers who run successful restaurants are beasts at multitasking. Pubs and bars seem to do very well though. Anyways really appreciate the feedback. Helps a lot!

Great video! A good place to find color palettes is Pinterest. That's where I get most of my palettes. Set color palettes like those are good for smaller things (food items, NPCs, etc,) but it's also a good idea to create a mood board of the kind of colors you want. Find pictures or artwork that fit your aesthetic and eyedrop the colors. I find that's often the best way to get a wider range of colors while still sticking to a certain look. Looking forward to more videos!

About color palettes: Please be careful not to oversimplify. You seem to have general artistic experience, so the colors you used already look great. And you have a fairly sophisticated art style, so you can also use a lot of colors (In contrast to simple/ low res games). For example the stone tiles at 8:49 just wouldn't look as good in a lot of the common limited color palettes. In general the progress looks great, can't wait to play the game eventually :)

I also have an art background and love video games, but definitely have no knowledge in either architecture or pixel art. It’s super interesting to see these types of vids where you talk about your thought and design process as you create, with very simple editing too. Just a voice over and screen recording, it’s easy to follow along and nice to watch. Not a lot of people would share their project progress so in depth, or would rather just show the finished end product where all the problems have already been solved. I really look forward to see how the project continues to evolve and will watch out for your future uploads :)

It might be cool if customers tossed their tips on the tables, which then linger a bit before being collected (or maybe fly into your wallet?). Kind of like resources in a lot of mobile games, or drops in a diablo-like. That way, you get some satisfying (and kinda chaotic) visual feedback when business is great. Love the town design, and I’m looking forward to following the game’s development. :)

Glad you like the game! I'm using Unity's Universal Render pipeline. Every sprite is using the default lit material (meaning it will be black without a light source in the scene). Then I just drop a light source into the scene and everything will be light up. You can then use scripts to tweak and adjust the light source to add day/night cycles, color adjustments etc.

This is looking great! one idea (you've probably thought of) are ingredients going to spoil? you could make it so that different food has a different shelf life. so fish is only good for a day or so, but potatoes can be kept for much longer. you could also have a system where the quality of ingredients goes down gradually and the player has to decide if they still use them for longer (producing lower quality meals) or throw them away sooner (high-quality food but higher cost in wastage). would also add another dimension to menu planning, as you'd want to use up ingredients that are going to spoil soon. Also what about batch cooking or meals that take a long time. Like you could cook up a whole batch of soup or stew if the player chooses to (even starting hours before service for things that take a long time) but then it could be served really quickly during service.

If a player is allowed to go to the city, bathhouse or volcano, then he or she cannot earn money that day as they are not present at the restaurant to open it? Or maybe you could choose a manager for that day and set the opening and closing hours upfront. As this is the future setting, the manager could contact you via mobile phone or other sophisticated device and present you with some problem you have to resolve at a distance(the same way it is when you play the sims - when your sim is at work, they sometime get the message that something happened and you have to choose your reaction and then you get a message with the result)

I really love the look of the town! The npcs though... they are very stick like, which I personally don't like, but it also doesn't match up with your close up art. Near the end you visit a butcher who looks thin with a mustache and beard, but the close up is a rounded man with just a mustache. For testing I can see it wouldn't be consistent, and you said you will be cleaning up spirits, so this is mainly a call for consistency in the final product. The main thing that is annoying is the bobbing up and down, people don't do that. You could have them wiping the counter, chopping ingredients, or doing something like inventory instead. I don't mean to be a drag, and I have experience in playing games not making them, so maybe I should shut up. But in looking at games to buy, I want the characters to look as good as the setting, and I don't see the here yet. Good luck on the rest of development!

Damn dude you make me hype in some way. I like the restaurant system but some things that maybe helpfull : 1. Give a point from each furnitere the higher the price the more point u get, the point is use to make customer happy (ex : heart icon) and the more heart ur restaurant have the more tips the customer give. 2. Make a special customer like a that critic ur restaurant it will make many customer came in several time, u can make a rich guy that came rarely it will give a lot of tips depend of ur restaurant point. 3. Make level on the food, it will get exp everytime the food is created. If the food have higher level it will get some more heart for the customer or have a chance not to consume ingredients and make the price higher. 4. From the furnitre point u can make a package that sell furnitre wtih high heart, as long as the microtransaction didnt effect the story to much if fair enough and i hope you dont make some furnitre that u only get from buying with real money.Make item u sell on package have a expensive price in normal shop is fine . I love how you make the system that u must decide what things to do on each day (it will be more critical if u have limited time from the story like harvest moon : save the homeland) and the npc design is like stardew valley i love it a lot. And all things that you plan is well prepared and didnt haste for the beta.
