Super helpful video! I'm self-taught and find making the patterns actually the most difficult and time consuming part of a project. Thanks for the hints and tricks!

I happened upon a giant bag of medium to large chrome tanned scraps recently, so I can't wait to get to making some patterns and starting some armor! I'd really like to make a gauntlet for use with my Polypropylene training weapons to start out with, but I've got no idea where to begin with the hand shapes. (Buddy of mine and I were sparring and I stuck him between the knuckles and his hand got nice and swollen. I on the other hand... had a buckler.)

HIGHLY informative, this is how I try to work with any material but I'm so disorganized. Gave some great ideas for me to work with in future builds, I'm currently trying to make a leather underbase for "robotic limbs" that I can plate. The idea is cutting out the piece with tin shears since it's sheet metal and giving it little spikes/prongs I can put into it similar to the pyramid shown.

Amazing!! Ive been tooling leather for 4 years now and want to make a leather armor with a Game of Thrones theme. Where could I learn how to mould the leather to form the armor?

Great video. I'm actually looking to start leatherworking as an absolute novice, and I want to make a set of leather pauldrons like this. Could you maybe do a tutorial of making one all the way through? I've also watched your water hardening video and plan to use that technique and use 9oz veg tanned leather. Do you recommend against this, or is it suitable?

Hi there! Just wanted to say thank you for making all these videos and taking time out of your day to do them! I am a newbie and for my first project I am doing the Northern armor of Jon Snow from Game of Thrones. I'm not a very good drawer and if you could help me layout the pattern, I would greatly appreciate it! I have a few pictures to send that would give you an idea of what it looks like. I feel like it is a very basic design and you might laugh haha. But if have an email or something, I'll send you the pictures. Thanks again for all the videos and can't wait for others!

i have a idea kicking around my head right now for a way to make armor with leather and aluminum sheet metal. the thought is that you would take two pieces of leather and sandwitch them around a sheet of aluminum to get a nice contoured and resilient piece. something that would ideally give more protection than plain leather but not be as heavy as steel. i would love to know your thoughts on such a design. the obvious is that it would be alit more work but the question is would it be worth it?
@Muljinn2 жыл бұрын
@Dave Hill your idea is similar to a couple types of historic armours, specifically the coat of plates and brigandine. Those used steel of course, but the broad concept is similar.

Hi, I love your videos, and thanks for sharing. Can you or do you have a template for the leather gauntlet for a women that would have the fingers on it as well? any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Do you have any links to the full process of assembling? Particularly the underside and how the straps connect. I tried making something like this, and it's not as comfortable as I thought it would be with the articulation.

I want to design a "Dragon knight" theme for some armour. I don't want anything too crazy, something that is subtle yet awesome. Any thoughts?

Here's a question, I want to make leather armor with metal scales or plates really. What would be the best method to attach that metal plate to the leather where it has a minimal impact on the form of say, a gauntlet. I probably explained that badly, basically I want to put a curved metal plate into a leather gauntlet where if you run your hand over it, the entire thing will feel like one smooth surface. I'm thinking wet mold the plate into the leather, score the back of the metal and then glue it in. Just not sure if that'd hold or not.
@ArtOfWarriors118 жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for subbing. That all sounds good but I would also punch or drill holes in the metal and fasten it to the leather with rivets.
@kanorshkan8 жыл бұрын
No problem, you definitely deserve my sub. I wasn't sure if glue itself would be enough, thanks for the advice. If I ever get around to doing it I think I'll make it to where the rivets sit inside the metal. I forget what the process is called but I've got the tools to do it lol.

Hey how would one go about making Accents on leather armor?
@ArtOfWarriors118 жыл бұрын
I use tooling stamps with a lightweight mallet. I will cut templates that can be traced onto the surface of the leather then carved and tooled,
