THIS. WAS. AWESOME. ...these are a hundred percent pure inspiration, man. I get so happy every time a new Waveform drops, you have no idea - I know we're in for awesome practical tips, genuine insight and a hella interesting premise. (And also dumb jokes, which are personally kinda my favourite thing of all. This time it was Bran Flakes that made me choke on my coffee.) I could go on and on about how great this series is, but the one thing I don't think you get enough credit for is actually... you manage to make Waveform *funny* as well as informative, which is a huge thing. None of the other channels like this are anywhere near as entertaining as yours - and it's something I'm striving to introduce into my own work after seeing how well you make it work here. :) Anyway. This video was superb - keep churning 'em out, man. Love the work you do. x

One thing that I'd be interested in seeing, is sounds of nature. Just really simply stuff like birds and wind and stuff. For two reasons, it sounds really challenging because there is a lot of stuff. And also whenever I try to just outright record it with my iPhone it misses half the stuff, and the other half becomes drowned out with the wind mic thing. I don't know what to call it, but the popping from when wind hits the mic.

Marshall i actually think your channel is a must watch for every amateur sound designer and also pros who may just watch to see a different approach to same concepts. I do appreciate your videos and i think if you could get some translations to some other languages it could become a really useful material for people trying to learn! More than once i wanted to show your content to non english speaking people. Keep up the great work, you deserve good things!
@Oceanman425 жыл бұрын
I found you as I was looking into sound design tips as my sister asked me to make music and sounds for her game. Even though I'm complete amateur level and even though you never really get into technicals, I feel I've learned more and gotten a lot more inspiration from the videos I've watched of yours than "tutorials" and other tips from other KZbinrs. So I appreciate the content. Even if I'm not looking into this that seriously (for now) it's really interesting to watch.

Waveform is actually the reason I turned on the KZbin noticications on my phones, I love your channel and I learn something new with every video! And we prefer more quality video for sure over a bigger quantity of videos. And on the topic of the video: I once learned an intressting technic from a metal vocalist: breathing in while singing/speaking. If you are able to influence the recordings this is a great tool for charakter voice designs, it give the voice almost a natural reverse effect. But watch your voice, this can harm you easily if done for to long!

Great idea for the voice!! Very similar to what I imagined it would sound like (I didn't think about the reversed reverb). And always had the bell turned on!

I love it! I mean, I'd much prefer the final voice to resemble the "ASMR" version more; think Fiennes' Voldemort in his whisper-tones, dripping with mystery and threat. The actual result was a little more "classic, demonic" voice with the drop in pitch and the reverse reverb being a little too apparent, in my opinion. On a more general note, with all the recent GoT hysteria, I think we can expect this video to blow up a little more than your others (I bloody well hope so anyway!)

I like it but I feel like the reverse reverb/echo makes it kinda cheesy. I like what you said about "inevitability", but I feel like the reverse echo effect fits disembodies voices a lot better :P Also, just for fun, I would add a tad of ring modulation to his voice. Great video either way! Keep up the good work I've really been enjoying your videos! - Dennis
@girlboygirl77234 жыл бұрын
I think I would’ve tried putting the voice and the ice through a vocoder, using the voice as the modulator and the ice as the carrier and blended that in with your pitched down unison-thing. That might give a nice fragmented effect.

Hey Marsh, this popped into my mind last days and immediately reminded me of you: I still wonder how sounds like the non-pause-menu course exit from Super Mario 64 are made (kzbin.info/www/bejne/sImmfpikjaloeLs ). My way of thoughts kind of reminded me of your anime-sound-video, like, how do they make this stuff? *What am I even hearing?* Your videos gave me quite the interest in sound-design and I'm really curious about those types of ("synthetic"?) sounds.
@MaxihehexD5 жыл бұрын
Hey Marshall, I've been doing sound design for the first time for my university games project and I have a question. Do you have trouble pull the sound apart in your head when you listen to your own final sound/product and if so what do you do or how do you deal with it? Personally whenever I listen to a a sound I make I can't help but pick out the origins of each sound and hyper focus on it. Also love your content you're a legend.

I swear, in the end i thought he would speak. Also, WTF?? A flawless season? I hope that was sarcasm
@MarshallMcGee5 жыл бұрын
It was sarcasm. I would give the season a 6.8 out of 10 probably. I really thought all the major plot moments were correct and felt great. I Don’t buy any of the “you destroyed X’s character arc” stuff that’s just silly. Just a rushed finale. Would still recommend the show to anyone, still my favorite show ever made.
@ivankalami5 жыл бұрын
Not having the Night King speak was a brilliant move in my opinion. Having the ability to speak makes you human, and since the Night King was no longer human, it would make sense that he wouldn't be able to speak the same way we do. The Night King not speaking also adds to the fact that he is very simple-minded, with only one goal, the destruction of mankind. Having him explain that with dialogue would be unnecessary, and would also make him less threatening. His motives are clear, and he doesn't have to explain it.

@omegashadows5 жыл бұрын
I think it sounds too human. The Others need to be a tad more "other". It needs to sound like cracking ice not have an ice cracking layer like the final product. Starting with ice cracking then giving it a human rhythm would be less creative and more cliche but it might fit better. I really like the cleverly rationalized reverse reverb.

The lack of grammar in the title got me really confused reading it
@RaisouE5 жыл бұрын
I don't know why it was decided that the White Walkers talked in parseltongue, but i'm pretty sure they were supposed to speak the old tongue in the books. And, since GRRM is pretty good about establishing ethnicity and ancestry for his world, we know which names stem from the first men (who spoke the old tongue). This should give us a better handle on what kind of sounds their words would be made up by. Or, we could just go by their obvious Norse inspiration and make them speak bastardized Old Norse. Either way, that ssslithering whisssper speak doesn't do it for me.

Can i suggest changing the Title to "What would The Night King Sound Like?" ? This one is too wordy.
