Doesn't this weaken the clamp force by interfering with the spring?

I did this and i am start to think about your comment...there is high potential the wire insulator going to be ripped off over time as it move back and forth with the spring of the clamp

@@neodiythe spring barely moves and there's little pressure from the wire on the spring body

Yeah it won't pull out but the electrical connection is still lousy. If you soldered it or put a lug in there then it would have a good connection.

Good thinking, however there are two alternatives. All Crocodile clip have a amaa hole where you crimp them. It is for soldering the bare end and crimping the insulated wire. Now as suggested by you we can do that with both the lugs and if you are not interested soldering then just remove a little bit of insulation in the return wire and by this you can get more current carrying capacity. Usually we use this double method for welding electrode holder. Thanks.
