This is an excellent discussion and I really appreciate hearing modern day pastors and thought leaders talk analyze and Bonhoeffer and his response to the utter evil of the Nazi regime. Bonhoeffer has so much to teach us Christians in 2024 as we see evil has grown so much in our nation and world and how good is called evil and evil is called good. The Bible defines good and evil, not our culture.

The wisdom pouring forth from Piper is just awesome. Hope to have that kind of intimacy with the Lord in my life.

What a fantastic discussion...and so many of the points discussed came up in my Bible Study group tonight discussing 1 Timothy Chapter 2...John's point about Biblical love....WONDERFUL!

This is such a super Sensational program. It abounds in excellent Biblical teaching, exciting historical discussion of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and his witness for us today, and even sprinkled here and there with some silly humor. I am so glad that I watched it

Fascinating watching this in 2022--it has aged well. Just read the book, and there many are uncanny parallels to today, especially in Canada with the so-called anti-conversion therapy bill.

I love John's shoes. They are proper Theologians shoes right there.... "beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news"

As usual, I'm dissatisfied with the 'is it ok to assassinate people' talk, but otherwise, a very interesting conversation. Who knew Eric Metaxes was so funny??

Thank you John Piper for your response to very evident racism. Yes, things have changed, but there is still work to be done. Thank you for your seriousness in your response. I personally don’t think the matter is funny at all, but hey when it is not hurting you then out of sight out of mind. Really “if they murder we prosecute them”, I am sorry. I truly did come here to learn more about Bonhoeffer and not to judge.

I made a mistake of not working under a valid visa..my life feels like hell now. I did not bring medicines because the law restricted it. I spent huge money on medications.

That Romans 13 passage is poorly understood. With regards to the rulers being în defense of what is good, Paul is simply referring to such rulers that do good morally. He is not referring to evil rulers. More so, we should heed the echo from Acts in which Peter affirms that they had better listen to God more than men. So obviously, Paul is promoting submission to authorities, which inherently punish crime, but submission to authorities that results in disobeying God!

Is it just me or does Piper come across as really standoff-ish toward Eric? Like he seems to be quick to point out flaws in any little thing Eric says. It felt awkward to me, but I think Eric handled it well.

Why do baptists treat Eric “class clown” poorly. He is highly intelligent, articulate and loves God. He is just immense in his work to re-educate millions of faithful Christians. I have seen another of this church’s pastors(little “p”) denigrate Eric, on camera!

Ever since, 20 years ago, when I was taught about the End Times Revelation /as yet unfulfilled prophesies about Israel which point to the the One World tyranny, I have been waiting for the day government would be so evil, I would be brought to civil disobedience because I must OBEY GOD, NOT MAN (Acts 5:29). I only wish I had been more persistent in prayer in the intervening years as regards abortion - not simply rolling all all societal and sin issues up in praying for the revival we thought we’d see around year 2000. Or realising I could still love my gay fellow citizen and still vote against gay marriage. And we only prayed in fits and starts, not consistently like Lou Engel’s prayer movement that has begun to move the mountain of baby corpses and roll back the US legislation. Only God has the right to rule on the definition of marriage, outlaw taking human life and decide which day the Sabbath is (Saturday). Gender reassignment is mutilation and creates more problems than people think it will solve. There is a great deal of gender confusion, but God is not a God of confusion, so we must treat people compassionately (as God does for us when we fail the biblical standards).
