Ultimately, it falls on the play caller, Smith, BUT I think his coordinators are letting him down. Mainly Ragone. Smith has a knack for calling good plays are the right time but the details are lacking and sloppy. Hopefully, Ragone is gone next year and is replaced with someone that pays attention to detail.@@jaymogul25

Like it or not, I think he will be the starter next season. I just hope he can elevate his game and limit the costly mistakes. The kid has talent and athleticism. @@swayg660he’s thrown some darts to London I think when he gets in the red zone the turnovers become a problem. The red zone is easy to score if you have a good offense which they do , but it’s also a smaller field for some reason he makes his best throws when there’s more space to work with, when it’s shrunk and condensed he doesn’t see some defenders just sitting around the goal line that get easy picks. He’s good mobile qb he should work on utilizing throws on the run hitting crossers or guys in the back if the end zone. Other than that he’s got potential.. but if he continues to struggle you gotta go with Heinicke

I think its a combination of a lot of things. Terrible play calling/design, Ridder being too cautious, not seeing things properly at times and the coach not trusting his QB to do certain things. I watched Matt Ryan struggle in this system, it feels a long way from being workable. Thoughts from the expert?

Just halfway through, you’re nailing it…Ridder is strong on the medium cross, curls, and comebacks, but weak on long downfield passes and accuracy. The one to Bijan might be the 2nd downfield pass he’s hit all year. He typically overthrows or mis-throws to one side. Then, of course, there is the constant interceptions and bat downs. He also has no touch on the screens or the long passes, typically. Relative to more runs, less throws - it may be confidence, it may be coach’s restriction at this point. Regardless, this QB handicaps the Falcons. Jets by at least 3 this week.

IMO, from your breakdowns, two things we must do after the season.we have to get an offensive coordinator that will run concepts where two players wont occupy the same space ( so closely) even if one runs the wrong route. I like Dez but we gotta move up and get a QB in this draft. The potential for these QB's coming out is much higher then his. Our window will open and shut quickly when these rookie contracts are up. Same people wanting Ridder gone now are the same ones that were saying Trevor Lawrence was a bust year one when he had a 71.9 qbr with 12 tds 17 ints. This belief that a guy with 13 games experience (7-6) can’t improve with more time is ridiculous. He has shown improvement and saying otherwise just plain wrong. He has 6 more games to prove he can put this team on his shoulders lead them to playoffs and cement his spot as the starter going into next year.

I should say first - very good and helpful analysis. What you miss - from lack of context (more games), probably - is that the ‘touch’ Ridder displays on the Bijan throw is unusual and probably happened because he was rushed and pressured by the defender and didn’t have time to think about it. In most situations he would have overthrown that ball - just like he failed to display ‘touch’ on the short one to Bijan earlier. Ridder constantly telegraphs, very rarely looks one way and throws the other (like the play you gave him cred for), panics in the pocket (which results in the runs) - and then there are the interceptions and fumbles and batted down throws. Hard to understand why AS, or anyone, thinks he is an NFL starter. Then we could talk about the play-calling, of course, a whole other issue.

Story Time, probably unrelatable: I started playing Super Smash Bros. and wanted to get good against other players. As good as I was at the game, I sucked against other people. Until I got SO comfortable with one character, that I was able to start juking people out. I found that constantly having two plans of attack kept the other players guessing. I'm still not great, but since everyone in the game is juking, you can't win when you aren't. After watching this, I'm convinced that Ridder is better at the game than I thought. But he isn't confident enough to play the game in the opponent's head. It seems like if the entire NFL is living in other people's heads, but Ridder is still in his own, he will not be able to overcome that wall to become good in the NFL until he starts learning the art of deception. THAT, I think, is where Ridder's real issues lie.

Ridder is not going to be a good QB no matter what anyone says. And this week going against the Jets D you are going to see how limited he is. Its almost a sure thing in the Jets game Ridder will turn it over 2 times at least. The Falcons have so many skilled players on offense- Pitts,London, and Robinson. All the Falcons needed this year to capture the division was a vet QB just to manage the offense and make sure he did not turn over the ball. Instead the coaching staff decided to once again have the great QB experiment which they did exactly last year with Maroitta which resulted into a disaster. If I were Pitts or London I would beg to get off that team.Pitts is so talented and gets one or two passes a game tops.

He kept saying he’s not seeing it or he’s not allowed to throw it. Either way it’s bad. He’s on Zach Wilson’s level. He’s not good at all. He has potential but he’s not playing well at all.

He's not as bad as people think but I still think he winds up having a decently long career as a high-end backup, not a franchise QB. His flashes are just him executing at a high level but they're mixed in with too many headscratchers. I don't see him as much of a playmaker.

I don’t know what the Bears are going to do with Fields but if I’m the Falcons I would probably call the Bears to see what would they want if they want to trade for Fields or possibly get one of their draft picks to get a QB.

Sad to say, but your analysis exposes so many fundamental flaws with the Falcons passing offense. Arthur Smith and Dave Ragone suck at pass play designs. They constantly have multiple WR's right next to each other with their dumb route trees. No Hot Read for Ridder on many plays. Ridder himself is equally lousy at making reads. He constantly ignores open WR's and throws right into heavy coverage. He seldom if ever goes for the long pass because he knows his accuracy is poor on those throws. Bottom line is Arthur Smith needs to bring in a competent pass game coordinator and or a new Offensive Coordinator and just be the HC. And, Desmond Ridder is not a QB1. I think a very good argument can be made he's not even really going to be a decent back-up QB because of his inability to locate his open WRs and his habit of throwing INT's. Time to move on from Ridder as soon as this season is over.
