I have one installed on my SFV4 and they’re worth their weight in gold. A $70 item that can save you a $1000 repair multiple times. Well that Desmosedici Stradale oil pan design is terrific when it comes time to change the oil it is terrible for everyday riding as it is exposed and only offers 4.2 inches of ground clearance with a factory set suspension! I suspect Ducati designed the oil system for a fully fared sport bike in mind that protected this and didn’t give it any though when the Streetfighter was designed.

Hey Bill, thanks for the great step by step video and feedback 😍 Meanwhile we stop powder coating the screws, as you mentioned they are not visible anyway. So the tool doesn't stuck anymore on newer deliverys. 😁

Your guard eliminates the ability to fit the TRO filter cap which is a must have for faster oil changes as oil changes with the existing cover using jackbolts are a PITA. A simple plate that bolts to the back two bolts on the TRO cover is a much better solution than this.

@@pomplardpanam8591 for sure on a Panigale its not needed, but if someone prefer, for what ever reason, he can mount it. 😀

@@duckylucky6505 i never hear any ducati dealer had any problems to remove the oil filter. You? Even a private mechanics should have none, simple screw in 3 M8 bolts and press the cover out. So i don't understand the sense of the part you mention. The question is, how often you change oil and how often you go over stones and chips... With the answer you can decide which product is more important for you. And if you dont mind the style of a bended sheet metal, its also fine 😀
@duckylucky65053 жыл бұрын
You'll understand after a bunch of oil changes. It's a bad filter cover design from Ducati to require jackbolts. They grind away over time into the female threads on the sump, eventually increasing chances of a cross thread of the cover bolts on reassembly.

@@duckylucky6505 client's report problems that there Streetfighter Oil Pan get hits hard by stones, not that they have problems with oil changes. So we developed a nice looking oil pan guard. If your problems more located at the oil change, you can use the parts you mentioned and bend a sheet metal. We don't try to force anyone to order our lovely oil pan guard 😀 In case several clients ask for a easy oil filter change solution, we will think about it but right now, zero requests.

As a 3D printer hobbyist it would also be very easy to design and print a plastic shield attaching the same way covering that area. Would be cheap and easily replaceable (as it will wear)

I would be more concerned with objects in the road than gravel and rocks. This looks like it would protect against wood and other things that one can encounter in the road that the front and rear wheels could surmount only to go through the oil pan. Would the sport bike benefit from this too? With the fairing on it, the oil pan isn’t as noticeable, but still vulnerable. Nice!
@SteinerSE3 жыл бұрын
Apparently the wheel rims handle that for you, according to the driving school of Bill. right?
@alanhassall3 жыл бұрын
@@SteinerSE I’m referring to high centering where the center of the car or motorcycle can contact something hard. When the Kawasaki Concours came out in 2008 they revised the oil pan to move the drain plug from the bottom of the oil pan to the side so it couldn’t be sheared off if it hit something solid on the ground like a curb. The oil pan on that Ducati looks quite vulnerable to hard objects on the road.

My comment about the wheel rims was a joke and a poke at Bill who recently ruined his front wheel by hitting an object on the road.

@@SteinerSE sorry. I didn’t understand. It would be an expensive, miserable day if your oil pan shattered and spilled oil all over the road in front of your back tire.

I have a solution to the problem, just protect the underside with fairings. That would make it a very different bike though so maybe call it something else than Streetfighter. Maybe something more Italian? "Panigale" has a nice ring to it. No, not? :) On a more serious note, the simple solutions are the best. Could already tell the bottom there had taken some hits. Kinda weird to have sensitive part stick down and be the lowest point (tank behind the cap).
