I think the audience was more annoyed by Susan's behaviour and selfishness than Gabby's because Gabby (and the whole narrative of the show) was fully aware that she is not a good person but very shallow, selfish, etc, that was one of the sources of her jokes. But in Susan's case, she never realized that she was not the best pure hearted one and I think this lack of self awareness made the character sometimes sooo annoying, especially when she was pregnant. She had her moments tho :D
@Kruukk

Susan wasn't selfish, on the contrary she was very altruistic and that made her way too pushy, sticking her nose in someone else's business and often(always?) making things worse.

So if a character is selfish and evil she gets excused cause she owns up to it? Susan can be clumsy but at least she didn’t do half of the crap and think she can get away with it. Most of the things gabby did are unforgivable

I absolutely hate Tom, he doesn’t deserve Lynette whatsoever. He always complains how she’s controlling but eventually they all do what he wants. He kept knocking Lynette up even tho she obviously didn’t want as many kids. He decided to be stay at home dad and then he decided to put all their savings in his dream, which yet again prevented Lynette from her career ambitions. He almost sold pizza place without asking his wife because he wanted to go on journey around the world. And when Lynette finally persuaded him to take a career step up he acted as a total jerk afterwards.And I hate the way she acted around him, almost scared because he always was about to throw his child tantrum. She had to be responsible and adult one all the time and tiptoe around his ego but in the end she got blamed for it. And the way he acted around his mom, ew. Lynette even said that he was totally sexist when they first started dating. So he used to be even worse. At some point writers understood that they have too many happy couples and they need some drama so they broke up perfectly matched Bree and Orson by villainizing the latter. I wish they’d just found someone decent for Lynette instead.

They were both awful together. Lynette was abrasive and domineering. She seemed more properly matched with Rick, who treated her right and was on the road to success. I never understood why they made gabby a groomer??? Like the storyline could have been almost the same if they just had John be a 20 something college student home for like spring break/summer? Like they could have left almost all the storyline the same and could have added something to Brees daughter how she's pining after someone older and unattainable and he keeps turning her down and instead of the mom getting upset about him being underage she could have still been upset about him wanting to drop out of uni or something. Like?? It's literally so easy to not make him a minor!!

@@SerenaSkybourne crusty men ? She was the one who wanted her space even after she slept with him. And while Toms choice to get a girlfriend was not a good move either Lynette was the one who started it. She was the one who encouraged him to get the new job At the end of the day both of them had their bad choices. Also what this Generation doesnt understand is that people used to fix their stuff before throwing it away. After all they got 5 children and they always had love for each other it just changed,and thats a normal thing that can happen after 20+ years of marriage ,you just dont throw it away without even trying to fix it. Like Roy said there are things that you regret not doing when you get old ,because maybe one thing/chance could change it all. And by that he means that is better to try for something you love and want in life ,even if you dont get it the end you will know you did your best and tried and that way you can not have any regrets. And thats is a great message

I will never understand why they focused so much of the final episode on Ben and Renee’s wedding. I don't see Gaby doting on Grace as showing preference to her over the kids she raised. Its more likely that she laments not being in her life thus far and not being able to provide for her because she is her flesh and blood. And I think the reason she kept buying Grace expensive gifts and jewellery was because she pities her for having to be raised poor. Throughout the show Gaby has made it known that she doesn't want any child of hers to have to grow up poor and struggle in life like she did. So its understandable that she would after forming a bond with Grace try to make sure she is provided for, and even attempted to take her away from the poor couple who raised her, thinking Grace would have a better life with her and Carlos and their resources. EDIT: I agree that Carlos didn't handle what Gaby went through losing Grace very well either. He could have been more understanding and compassionate to Gaby, but that being said I think Carlos being a realist knows that it was better for everyone (including Grace) for her and her parents to move away and not have anymore contact with them. I personally think losing Grace must have been just as agonizing for him as it was for Gaby, but he also has to protect Juanita and think about what's best for her.

I think with Gaby's stepfather, everyone thought he was dead. For Gaby to claim that he is alive and has been stalking her would be a tough sell to the cops without proof as they could assume she is crazy or having a nervous breakdown. And in a way she herself thought she was imagining Alejandro and dealing with past trauma until she realized he was still alive. Why they didn't report his death to the police probably because Carlos who already has a criminal record could go away for a while for involuntary manslaughter. I know he was protecting Gaby, but unless they can prove Alejandro was about to kill her, self defense of a third party might not have stuck in court.
@MadisonSpearslol
@MadisonSpearslol Жыл бұрын
The thing about “self defense” is also about how the person died. Carlos struck alejamdro ONCE with a candle stick. There wasn’t excessive force. They would’ve had a good case especially since they can prove who alejamdro was to her through photos and testimony. Ie that nun from baby’s hometown

If a certain person popped back up in my life that had abused me I would go learn how to shoot a gun or make sure that I was still a good shot & test out different types of guns as some people are more accurate shooters with certain firearms. Their is a varying statue of limitations as well as the shame that is hard to admit so the best thing most victims of childhood sexual abuse would be wise to learn how to shoot a gun as well as learning other self defense techniques. I guess you’d have to have lived it to truly understand. In the state I live in the statute of limitations ran out before I could really tell my dad or Grams who would done something about the situation. No offense to anyone else who has lived it for having a different reaction & totally disagreeing with me, in that case I can only send you love & the hope that you have been able to deal with it so you don’t feel the burden anymore, can’t delete the memory but it’s just a desire that it doesn’t weigh you down forever. 💞

I couldn't get over the way the girls treated Bree after the murder. After over a decade of friendship and considering what happened with Mary Alice, it was really surprising to see they can still be so petty and cruel. It's like no matter what tragedies happen to them, they don't learn or grow. I agree about so many dramatic things happening in the show without them being used to full potential. Like Tom's other daughter who just disappears, Porter's affair with his best friends mom, Gaby and her affair with an underage boy, Orson's r*pe etc. I hated what they did to Katherine and Orson as they would be my favorite characters if written better. Katherine's personality changed every season and Orson just kept getting worse for seemingly no reason other than drama. Mike's death at the end was sooo rushed and pointless especially as he's been in the show since episode 1. I've watched DH many times since I was a kid and it's probably my favorite show but it does get frustrating lol.

mike's death was for susan's character arc/to give susan a character arc finally; after all the focus from her, and the show itself, on her love life, her pining over men, and her ruminating on and making decisions about romance, its kind of a conclusion to that. it ties to a lot of the major themes of susan's character, like her being love obsessed and her inability to be independant or cope with her own emotions alone (or with just her friends). she prioritized romantic relationships a lot and devoted so much of her time and energy to them or the pursuit of them or trying to make them work. idk it seemed pointless to me at first but once i thought about it for a while it made a lot of sense to me and seemed like a fairly reasonable writing choice, though definitely sudden & rushed.

I don't like Susan because this character got away WITH EVERYTHING she did. Unlike Gaby, who, although it doesn't excuse anything, but she did face consequences. I liked Susan at the beginning but slowly started to dislike her. Susan is clumsy, yes, but it's like, 'oh, look at her she's so cute for being clumsy', and Gaby is also clumsy, but she actually faced the consequences for he clumsy actions... I mean... at the end of the day, she got away, but she was judge. I don't know, at least that's how I feel. Also I didn't like that Susan made such a big deal and jumped into conclusions OUT OF NOTHING, like girl, THINK, BE CALM! And this didn't happen only once... I also dislike how they treated Edie, I felt like she did want to be friends with them, but neither them or she, felt like she belong with them; they didn't see her as an equal, and she knew that. She was harsh, yes, but so was everyone at some point.

I believe that the reason why the woman (Anne) who groomed Porter was considered horrible by everyone was because she was in her 40s while he was 16-17. Gaby was 25 or so when she groomed John (almost 17 if i remember correctly) and they were almost the same age irl. Not saying it's not bad, but it's easier to get triggered by a 25-year gap than it is with a 8-year gap. Both are wrong though.

She still said she would love him no matter what and slowly started accepting his homosexuality (when she invited his bf in season 2). Bree made some mistakes but she loved her children and did everything for them (was ready to take a bullet for Danielle, hid Andrew's crime...). Andrew was ungrateful from the very first episode, complaining about dishes she spent hours to prepare, being mean to her all the time, insulting her, falsely accusing her of being violent just to get access to his bank account and leave the house, sleeping with her boyfriend...not to mention he had no guilt after he hit Carlos' mother with his car. Wonderful retrospective. I remember becoming enamored with the show when it came out, but remember getting so pissed at the show from the seventh season. It took me a year before I watched the last season in its entirely. I hated how Lynette was demonized, because she was my favorite. As for the rest of the women, I think Bree's arc in the last season is impressive, and her character grows so much. She accepts her son's sexuality (even if him potentially being bisexual is not even explored because the binary of only gay and straight existing is rigid for Marc Cherry), she makes some form of peace with Danielle, and she chooses someone who loves her no matter how deep the flaw. I love the scene where she tells her "friends" off after the intervention, because they deserved it. I think Marc Cherry wrote Bree with more dimension than he wrote the other women, though to be honest, Lynette was the most relatable character in Season 1. I don't think Orson being a villain wasn't that surprised, since he left Bree for her hypocrisy while Bree never really left him for his, though she did tire of the abuse she got from him and went with Karl. I think Edie got the bad rap because of how Marc Cherry treated her on set. I know the lawsuit was tossed out, but I wonder how welcome Nicolette Sheridan truly was. Katherine's arc made somewhat more sense. When she dated Mike after the jump, I think it made sense, but the mental breakdown, I feel, was due to another man leaving her and the culmination of all of the years she had negative experiences with men falling into near life-changing happiness with Mike just to have it dashed. Also, I don't think Susan helped any. I don't like how her arc wrapped up, though I am glad she gave Lynette a reason to leave the Lane. Interesting show. Lovely breakdown of the series.

Awesome final installment to your DH series, honestly so much fun to watch. I did lose focus when your friend started slipping down the couch though! :D I was going, when is it gonna happen, when is it-- oh here we go. I'm also team Bree all the way. I absolutely loved Andrew, Gaby and Lynette as well. My least favorite has to be Danielle, followed closely by Susan and/or Rex, who never did read a room in his friggin life. Orson definitely takes the cake for worst written character, though I could never bring myself to fully hate him. Mike's death is up there with some of the weirdest deaths ever. It did nothing but piss off folks who weren't even that invested in his character. :D Renee was a tricky one for lots of people because Ugly Betty had just ended and Vanessa Williams played such an iconic character there, all we saw was discount Wilhelmina Slater. Anyway, I do think Marc Cherry did great, great work on this show. It had plot, humor, drama and some very, very stupid moments. The four leading actresses were brilliant through and through. Wish I could see it again for the first time.

Really don't see how Susan was in the wrong for not tip-toeing around Katherine's feelings about Mike. Katherine literally manipulated Mike into a commitment even though every step of the way he was showing signs of still being in love with Susan, and then had the gall to be ridiculously upset when it all blew up in her face. I lowkey agree with Susan when she says, "does she forget i was married to him first and we have a kid together?" I also feel like the show makes it pretty clear what Katherine's motivations are for "being a good guardian' to Mj by showing her smiling manipulatively every time she does anything for the kid.

Susan is selfish and a hypocrite, and she never thinks things through. Off the top of my head - -changing MJ’s name without telling Mike and hoping he wouldn’t know before they left the hospital. -Burning Edie’s house down and not telling her(even breaking in to Edies house when no one answered because she thought Edie was having sex with Mike, at this point a guy she wasnt even dating) -sleeping with Carl a day after he and edie broke up despite her knowing Edie really really liked him -forbidding Julie to go to a summer internship in princeton because she would miss her a little(even if she changed her mind) -giving zach back to Paul when he was clearly terrified of him instead of calling the authorities on Paul -Sending Zach away without telling Mike and letting Mike keep looking for him -Voting for Katherine over Lynette for HOA because she thought the fountain was loud for her (they were all under the impression Katherine would tear down Lynettes tree house, which was her kids safe space from thinking about the fact that she had cancer) -She breaks into peoples houses left and right no questions asked -Going out with that construction guy she didnt even like just because Edie asked her not to -turning Orson in because she thought it would exonerate mike(all she knew at this point was orson knew monique, and that her blood was found on Mikes wrench who doesnt remember her. They could have both been guilty. ) Off the top of my damn head. She is always blurting something , dropping something, interrogating someone, accusing someone, etc. List of awful, toxic things Susan has done just goes on and on!!!

Susan was definitely wrong for not thinking about Katherine when it came to the whole Mike situation cause imagine falling in love with someone and they dump you to get back with their ex-wife….like what?! 😂 then for you to be my friend and not at least check in with me after not only stealing my man but not inviting me to the wedding (which for obvious reasons was understandable) was incredibly selfish of Susan. I also think her having the affair with the guy who’s wife was in a coma, was selfish cause your dealing with a man who’s already married on top of the fact that your significant other was also in a coma.

For me relationship between Renee and Ben made no sense whatsoever. Not believable at all. I agree with you about Tom, I’d actually prefer them separating and divorcing at the end. I don’t remember them sorting out their issues. Killing Mike was the biggest F u moment of the show. I read somewhere that it was because they wanted Susan to finally become independent at the end, but idk. I also remember when at the end of a season we found out that Paul knew about Susan’s “modelling work”, it was so shocking, I couldn’t wait for the next season. I thought it was nicely done, very believable that it all went downhill. Overall, yes, the housewives are flawed and apart from bad writing, they should stay that way. It would’ve been boring otherwise.

I think that Felicity is a fantastic actor and while she may not have been my favorite character there was no denying she played the role excellently, and any accolades she received were well deserved. I think that Marcia should have also been up for the Emmy as well - she was so convincing as Bree. However Teri as Susan was good, but not as Emmy worthy as the others in my opinion. And I love Mrs. McCluskey so much. She can do no wrong. I loved how she started out as the ornery neighbor and eventually became a part of the "family" of the neighborhood. I fell in love with her by the end of the season and her dying will always make me cry.

s7 & 8 were so terrible to me. they amped up all of the characters main flaws to an almost cartoonish level at time. susan should’ve been iced out (although i thought them beefing at all was unnecessary given how serious the situation was) after all the ruckus she caused! PAINTING THE CRIME??? it wasn’t enough that she painted them burying him but the murder weapon too?😂 also her going to oklahoma was asinine. there should’ve been a more harsh repercussion for her & not just a quick cutesy resolve in 1 episode. also hated when she told lynette not to hook up with the 1st person she met after a breakup cus she’d hate to be seen as “that girl” when she did that with jackson…. ofc her actions with julie had me heated. another glossed over situation. i wish julie stuck to her guns more & stuck with the adoption. bcs with the knowledge of how terrible of a mom susan was to her, why would she then let her raise her child?? they also just said eff porters feelings after they made him being the father such a big deal. i’m surprised you didn’t touch on chuck’s behavior. that was annoying but not unrealistic for the “nice guy”. i hated that his cop buddy was even allowed to take on that case. seems like that would’ve been a conflict of interests given how often he called her a bitch. didn’t like any of bree more recent relationships. it’s like we’d get 2 ep w/them going on dates then by ep 3 it’s been 2 months and their in love & getting engaged. she & keith being a great example. they had no chemistry & i was bored whenever they’d come on the screen. although i didn’t like how her letting loose came to be, i wish THAT had been her ending if she didn’t end up with orson. learning to not live in shame. i was pissed at how the girls turned on her. & as much as i love gaby i didn’t like her at all in s8. i know she’s selfish but i wasn’t buying the women just neglecting her & letting her almost go to PRISON bcs of it. i was so annoyed with bree during the trial with her trying to protect them. on 1 hand i understood it but on the other this is a potential LIFE SENTENCE!! like when the lawyer wanted to know who she hooked up with so he wasn’t blind sided & she didn’t wanna tell him…😒bree please! orson coming back was so pointless. wasn’t a fan of that storyline. jane was disrespectful and manipulative & agree that she should’ve been sympathetic to the situation. i didn’t love or hate renee i think they didn’t give her enough to make me care about her. she could’ve been so much more. ben was blah.. i didn’t buy their relationship either. i wish karen didn’t step in like she did and help gaby. as much i wanted bree to walk freely, i really wanted to see gaby have to own up to her part. a lot of actions either went w/o consequences or harsher ones than necessary. the art class storyline was also boring.

It was Susan's son and boyfriend talking about his ex, who now dates women, and the kid was like "Mommy said you turned your ex into a wasp" (in german wasp=Wespe rhymes with Lesbe=lesbian)

I’m watching your vid now and I’m not sure if you bring it up in it, but I was REALLY bothered by the baby switch storyline with Gabby about Juanita and Grace. While I understand it’s an impossibly hard situation and they needed to be present for Juanita and assure her that she was their daughter no matter the biology, I felt Carlos and their therapist were INCREDIBLY insensitive and unfair towards Gabby’s pain over losing Grace. I wish the show and the characters could have framed the situation as Grace being ANOTHER daughter Gabby lost than the idea of “Gabby’s true daughter” and how that was Juanita’s assumption. I think it was clear when Grace’s mom asked Gabby if she was willing to switch back Juanita and Grace and Gabby wasn’t immediately like “absolutely”, that Gabby loved and wanted ALL of her daughters. I just hated how Carlos had zero feelings about Grace and couldn’t even try to be there for his wife and what she was feeling. She was clearly traumatized. Side note, the show ALSO eventually forgot about that storyline and dropped it and moved on to other things and also never explored what Celia was thinking about the situation: how would she feel knowing her big sister wasn’t her biological sister and that she was Gabby and Carlos’ only biological child who was raised by them? Also Celia’s feelings towards Grace. Once again Celia is just a background character, I wonder why she was even there.

I really hated the baby switch storyline especially when Carlos was being so cold about the situation

Yes it was so unnecessary especially since the whole joke was that her girls are so different to her.

Omg you’re so right! I was surprised how quickly they brushed past that bomb drop. Also did Celia ever talk?

I think the reason why people likes Gabby more then Susan is because Gabby changes and grow as a character. Susan always says she will change and be a better person and never does

What growth character she did? Playing the funny one and do evil crap and get away with it cause she’s supposed to be funny?

I first started watching Desperate Housewives, I guess, four or five years ago. I watched until Season 4 and then I, although I liked the show, kinda lost the interest in watching more. One or two months ago I again started watching it, beginning with your summarizations of season 1-3, so I could continue directly in season 4. It lasted a bit until I got into it again, but then I saw again why I love this show so much. And now, there are two episodes left, and I watched all of it. Awesome show. Awesome cast. It's sad that I haven't already watched the whole show a few years ago
