Ocean Access Remote Hot Spring | Trip to Paradise | Destination Adventure

Tallheo Hot Spring, has been a rollercoaster of an adventure location for me. Two out of three visits now, this spring has tried to get the best of me, but never the less I still love it there. My first visit to Tallheo was the scariest, because I was stuck here surviving for four days due to engine failure and injury. It was winter at that time and I wasn't quite sure how I was going to make it out, but the important part is that I did. My second visit, the redemption trip, was a huge success and I enjoyed every moment of it, but the third was again a challenge. The trip its self was a success, and went without any difficulties, but the following day revealed the sting of Tallheo once again. I woke up feeling okay, but with a strange and very painful red bump on my chest. By 10:00am I began to get very ill, and noticed veins coming from the bump into my arm pit. Things progressed worse and worse for the rest of that day, to the point that I had to go into the hospital. The doctor doesn't know for sure, but we are guessing the infection came from a parasite in the hot spring, and things got very serious very fast. I am coming up on my second week on strong antibiotics, and still battling the infection. I hope that things will clear up very soon, but I know for sure I will be taking some more precautions before enjoying natural hot springs again.
With all of the challenges aside, this trip was extra special because I got to share it with Emi. She has been visiting me in Canada from Japan for the past month, and it was so nice to get to take her out and enjoy some of our beautiful province, especially the remote secrets I love the most. I got to make her a beautiful crab dinner, and enjoy the little cabin by the ocean. All in all, this was an absolutely wonderful trip.

I lived in the Bella Coola Valley (Firvale) for 9 years working for DFO and just living the good life. The only paved section of Hwy 20 was from Williams Lake to Riske Creek then. Thanks for the memories. I hope to make it back there some day.

My grandparents lived in Nimpo Lake and there were many years where we made the 9 hour drive north to go see them. Beautiful scenery out #20 in all seasons. Thank you for bringing me back, its been at least 10 years since i've been out that way now, and even though my grandparents have passed on and the rest of the family migrated from Anahim back to Williams Lake, I have a yearning in my heart to see it all again. Just a suggestion, “ KEEN” makes sandals, that are not only waterproof, but they have a special sole that when flexed and walking over wet rocks, the tiny treads open and close making them fairly slip resistant The sandals are sturdy enough for some guys who will wear them on the trail instead of hiking shoes, and they’re great for crossing streams and rivers and they drain and dry off. Fairly quickly. I would hate to see you get another infection again Keep up the good work Dustin, stay safe 😊

Awesome yet again! As a rule I always use sandals around hot springs, showers, etc. you never know what ya can get! But… did you get checked for allergies?
