One thing that the compilation you are watching doesnt include is the 6 player raids. In destiny 1 they have no dialogue but convey a story through each encounter. The dark below dlc launched with a raid called 'crotas end' and had a much different crota fight than the one you watched

At 6:52, Rasputin plays classic music as a way to communicate with us. And Eris repeats her story because after all her friends where killed before her eyes, she was alone for years without any light that coult provide her non negligible firepower but most importantly any mean to quickly heal her or resurrect her. She had to add acolyte eyes to replace her (that's why she has 3 hidden green dots) and learn hive magic to survive to a whole brood in almost absolute dark.

This DLC may have been short but in terms of the overall story it did lay the groundwork for a ton of what's to come. Also it kind of continued a little past this, where you actually kill crota himself but that was an endgame raid not part of the regular campaign. Some background on eris without any spoilers. Sadly at this point in destiny a lot of the best lore was still buried in the grimoire cards. A really long time ago the guardians launched a huge attack on the hellmouth (the hive's fortress on the moon). It went so horribly that the event became known as "the great disaster", with many legendary guardians dying their final deaths. During one battle Crota personally slew the titan Wei ning, who was a close friend of Eris. After the guardians were forced to retreat the moon was declared too dangerous to risk any further operations there, and any guardian activity there was forbidden. Some time later Eris was approached by another of her friends, the warlock Eriana-3. Eriana had been Wei ning's lover, and both of them desperately wanted revenge for her death. They found four other like-minded guardians: Sai Mota, Vell Tarlowe, Omar Agah, and Toland. Despite being forbidden, they entered the hellmouth planning to assassinate Crota. Unfortunately, Toland's thirst for arcane secrets caused him to betray the group in the hopes of learning about a hive ritual known as the deathsong. However, merely hearing the song ripped his own soul out of his body. Sai, Eriana, and Vell were killed by the hive in battle, while Omar was captured and eventually tortured to death as part of a different hive ritual meant to steal his light and use it to empower the hive. Despite losing her eyes (she once had normal human eyes) and ghost to the hive, Eris managed to survive in the hellmouth for an unknown number of years. During this period she stole the eyes of a hive acolyte and somehow used them to replace her own. Eventually she managed to escape and return to earth. Her guardian powers disappeared when her ghost died, but her extensive knowledge of the hive still make her a valuable asset. For obvious reasons, she still has a bone to pick with the hive but now goes about it more carefully.

And so it continues. As the other's said, you should watch the raid videos as well in between the campaign cutscenes, because that's where the lore bombs are dropped. But if you cannot find those, lore videos about said raid encounters or the raids as a whole might be your best bet. If you think that's overwhelming, then you could skip it and watch it for later, but I do recommend watching them along to get a full story that actually makes sense. The raids you're missing so far is the Glass of Vault that comes after the base campaign and before The Dark Below. After Dark Below, you have another raid called Crota's Ends, tying up the DLC's story. As you react to the story, be it the campaigns, the raids, and later the seasons, you will get to know more about the characters, especially Eris. She is primed to be as one of the most important characters in Destiny.

Others have sorta covered it here but I’ll try to give a brief rundown of the fight against crota’s soul and what’s happening. Powerful Hive, usually those referred to as gods, have enough strength and power to in essence craft their own pocket dimension called a Throne World. In a Throne World, all of your power gained by killing is made manifest. It’s usually where hive gods are at their strongest. However, it’s also where they’re at their most vulnerable as creatures with a Throne World only die True Deaths if it’s done within their own throne. What Crota’s Brood was trying to do was summon him back from his Throne, a ritual we as the player thwart. After that, the Crota’s End raid occurs where the player assembles a team of six to delve into Crota’s throne to kill him for good. Something pretty darn cool is that the team is unable to actually wound or harm Crota at all on their own. Only by picking up and wielding his own sword do we have the power necessary to kill him. In truth, this whole deal is a lot more complicated when it comes to the power of killing, swords, and throne worlds, but that’s not necessary information for this summary. EDIT: OH! and before I forget to mention, the whole story of Eris and her fireteam is told …but it’s in supplemental material outside of the game.. there are videos covering it though, and that’s probably the best way to experience it rather than hunt the pieces down.

Alas, it was destroyed in the original campaign. My best guess is some kind of copy of it existed in his throne or something? In Destiny 1 year one, A TON of the lore was available only through in game collectible cards called “Grimoire”. You guys mentioned early on that you liked the aesthetic of her bleeding eyes; the story behind that is that she saw such horrific things in The Hell Mouth (the ‘pit’) she went blind. Her ghost was killed and she can never revive from death agin, so she stole the eyes of an accolyte just to see and started learning dark- black hive magic just to survive. Her knowledge is considered heretical, but because she’s the only one that survived the experience, along with several other reasons I can’t tell you due to spoilers, the Vanguard allows her to stay

Eris' voice lines are always so impactful. "CROTA! SON... of ORYX!" She doesn't like to talk about it in D1. But basically her Ghost was killed and all her Fireteam members killed, their light consumed by Crota and the Darkness of the Hellmouth. She learned hive magic, apparently stole their eyes - or possibly embedded a Worm Larva in herself, it's not super clear - and did a bunch of Darkness stuff to survive without her Light. She is... NOT altruistic. She's... like you said, she's just very... focused. Very driven. In another timeline she turns to Darkness fully because you weren't there for her and didn't help her get over Crota and all that, according to some of the destiny 2 lore codex entries.

If you kill them in normal space, they go back to what’s called their “throne world” to recover. This is where Crota was throughout this, and his disciples were trying to summon him back to realspace. What you didn’t see here was that after this, a team of 6 breaks into Crota’s Throne World in what’s called a Raid and killed him for real.
@yourewrong9028
@yourewrong9028 2 жыл бұрын
One more thing: Eris actually lost her Ghost, and therefore also her superpowers, in that Pit. It wasn’t explained that well, but she’s not immortal anymore like we are. If she dies, she stays dead, which is why she came to us. She eventually gains… new avenues of power, but the beginnings of those aren’t shown until Taken King, and not expanded upon until WAY later. Also, she’s kinda SUPPOSED to be a morally grey character. She’s not full-on evil yet, but alternate timelines exist where she is literally the biggest villain in the entire story, the final big bad evil witch. So her being more focused on her own revenge than the City’s safety is not that out of character for her.

So yeah you missed the Raid where we DO in fact kill Crota, if you wanna see that im sure videos of the raid exist on youtube. It was the second raid ever added and sees you falling to the very bottom of the Hellmouth which takes you into Crota's Throne World where you can kill him for good. One of the most iconic parts of this DLC is being able to use the hive swords again. In the big fight against Crota the mechanic was you have 5 people take down his shield using heavy weaponry like Gjallarhorn and then the 6th person is the swordbearer. Once Crota's shields go down he takes a knee and the swordbearer gets to slicing and dicing through his health bar until he gets back up and regens his shields. Eris Morn is a really good character but much like the rest of D1 a lot of the good lore in hidden in Grimoire cards outside of the game. Shes one of the most tragic characters in the story, having lost all her friends and being forced to hide in the tunnels of the moon and even needing to steal an acolyte's eyes to survive. After Dark Below she takes a back seat for a bit until Taken King and then after that i think we have lore detailing how she begins working for the Queen of the Awoken, Mara Sov. its very risky for Eris to do anything combat related now because her ghost is dead. She lost her light in the Hellmouth and is essentially mortal again. Eris gets more characterization as we see more of her. Theres a couple weapons i wanted to point out in this video. The sniper rifle with the netting on the scope is an exotic called Patience and Time. You may have noticed in the fight against the Might of Crota but scoping in without firing for a short time turns the user invisible. I dont know much about the lore behind this one but i always liked the concept. The second weapon was the pulse rifle covered in bones with the greenish black aura around the barrel. The player used it in the fight with the crystal. Its name is Bad Juju and it was actually conceived by one of Eris' fireteam members, Toland, before he died. The Bad Juju's perk is called String of Curses i believe and rapid kills with the weapon grant Super energy. Toland the Shattered was an expert on the hive and detailed everything he learned in a journal. He is dead but yet lives. We see a floating light in a lot of the ascendant plane areas in D2 and if we interact with it we actually find out its Toland. He gives words of wisdom and warnings to the player. It seems Toland lives on in one way or another. Cant say that for the rest of Eris' team though. You learn more about them later in D2.

The characters in Destiny definitely become more fleshed out going forward with and after the Taken King expansion, but it's still interesting to see Eris and her initial drive for revenge before she became our go-to residential Hive expert. The backstory of what happened to her and her fireteam through the lore is pretty wild and dark (which Byf goes over in his lore video about the Crota's End raid, if you ever wanna react to his vids). She actually lost her Ghost and eyes while she hid under the Moon for nearly 100 years, but stole the eyes from a Hive Acolyte to replace them, hence why she has that bleeding effect now. This DLC was kind of just set up. 2 DLC's later, this one sets up Crota's dad showing up, wondering why his son hasn't conquered this solar system yet. And there was also a raid they didn't include because it took 6 people. Where they did actually wake up Crota, so you do actually have to kill him. The raids got hard. 1) you've played the game with 3 people so far, suddenly you need 6, and don't have another 3 people 2) they were hard, because they dropped better gear, the enemies had to be harder, to still be a challenge 3) They had puzzles in a FPS. Things like 4 people have to stand on 4 buttons on opposite sides of the room, to let the remaining 2 go through a door and fight a boss alone, kind of thing. You'd die trying to figure out what the gimmick was more than from the combat.

There are plenty of Crota's End raid guides and solo play throughs if you just want to see what it was like. I do suggest watching the raids, just so you get a full understanding of what happens and why the Taken King happens. Tho there is a lot of lore and story you are not seeing/hearing because of the way Bungie handled that in Destiny 1. Like others have said, recently in the last 4(?) years, they have gotten way better of telling the lore and story in game. Even if some of the little things are in your in game lore books and some on items and guns. But you still get a deeper understanding of how things have come to be as they are. But, Mynameisbyf and Myelin Games are great sources of lore and story if you just want to know more.

back then, a lot of the lore and story was tucked away in text based, grimoire cards. The writing is far better inegrated into the game now, it does get better. and Eris plays a major, major role going forward. Anyhoo, the background to Crota is that way, way back, the Guardians invaded the Moon to defeat Crota and got their asses handed to them, they died in their thousands. The Vanguard banned missions on the moon and basically cordoned it off because it was too dangerous. Eris and her fireteam ignored that edict to get revenge on Crota and they all died, save Eris. So yes, Crota is massively important to the lore of Destiny, he represented their greatest defeat but back then the writing was very choppy and fragmented.

So unfortunately destiny 1 went through alot of problems when it was being made and since it was with Activision. This created an issue with story telling and theres really no clear story till destiny 2. But I can at least assure you these dlcs/expansions are incredibly good lore wise and they really hit their stride with The Taken King expansion. The other problem you guys will experience is alot of disjointed lore/story pieces. While gameplay is shown the lore cards are not shown. See back in destiny 1 they had what was called lore cards. These were attached to Bungies website though and are no longer available except through 3rd party sources like Ishtar Collective. These lore cards are vital to read along side the story as they contain context. Though while you may not want to go that extra distance and don't have too just keep in mind this may be why story bits seem disconnected. Destiny 2 also has a fair bit of disconnect but lore is in game and viewable at any time. Keep going of course because this world they built has so much good story and lore. Its incredibly big and you've yet to see at least some of my favorite story pieces from D1. Oh and to be clear Destiny 1 doesn't solve all problems presented. We will see the end in the final dlc for Destiny 2 called The Final Shape. So enjoy the ride

We heard it’s weak in beginning and gets better once Taken King happens 🤗
